does it really matter, which side id positive and which negative? how does the light cable work? thanks

Not so much really, because the wires can be run to either side of the underglow light. The biggest thing is that the black and red wires get soldered to the correct locations. The light get powered from the circuit board of the car, so it turns on/off with it as well.

Not in any noticeable way. The underglow system only draws about 0.2 mAh.
