Some of that is so wild. There shouldn't be any sound that another player can hear from your movement without the same sound playing for you and being louder for you. Since that's how sound actually works. That there's this much difference is wild.

The only exception I find to this is sound from the floor above.
You can definitely hear where somebody is onz the floor above very well. Especially in older buildings
As a response to the opening question: Yes, I experienced it yesterday. Scavs just showing up next to me with literally no sound. It's gotten crazy.

its really good that they try to make it realistic but they just add and add and add and this comes out where you suddenly cant hear shit from a 200kg dude jumping around because he's now 40m away

they really need to have a set distance you need to fall in order to make that specific falling noise. its so annoying to drop 5 inches and it sounds if you jumped off a cliff. one of the most annoying things about moving around in tarkov.
When games can seamlessly step on top/over things like a small box instead of you going through it or almost teleporting a foot higher then they would fix that. I doubt it will ever be fixed 😢

@@sepachortels6366 more like 3x fire rate. you might "think" its 3x pen but actually that one bullet they fired on your client hit you 3 times according to the server and that was enough for the final hit to penetrate

While yes, it's kinda redundant to do that without having some form of hearing loss.
Imo headphones shouldn't have distance variables, it should just be high frequency audio mitigation thus using a SA58 with a muzzle brake should overtime still overwhelm the headsets ability to mitigate the high frequencies.
Audio would be muffled so your not hearing footsteps any closer then you would no headset. You'd then have the added bonus of suppressors having another pro against the con of high ergo reduction. Implement the ability for supersonic and subsonic to sound differently. I don't think headsets should be useless but i dont think they should be this broken either.

I always wondered how people played resort, that place makes me so paranoid. I would think a guy was above and in front and he would be walking directly behind me in the stairwell.
They just play with ESP
learn spawns. Rush resort w sj6 and trimadol and 9 times outta ten you’ll be the first one there or will catch someone running up after u get there and you’ll be able to hit all good locked rooms. Especially if you get a good spawn.

The vertical sound drives me up the wall someone sounds like they are shoving the barrel of their gun into my throat and they are 3 floors above me and then someone who sounds like they are 2 floors below me is right behind me it’s incredibly annoying on any map with significant amounts of verticality like streets and labs. Also yeah the scavs feel like they just MATERIALIZE near me all the time. There is nothing going on and no sound and all of a sudden I get shot in the arm. The worst for me though is the scavs just ignoring bushes blocking LOS but still using them for cover. The game acknowledges that the bush is cover and the scav uses it like cover but does not acknowledge that that cover also blocks the scavs vision

1:50 That's pretty much how the comtacs I used when I was a conscript worked, had two mics on the frontside of both the cups so it amplified noises in front of you better
One of the reasons I stopped playing Tarkov is that spatial sound makes absolutely no sense. Never in my life I’d been constantly misjudging distance to the source of sounds so much. Never got used to it. Worse sound system ever.
Obviously, the system still needs work, but I don't think this is talked about enough. The audio has really improved this wipe, I can't hear people halfway across the map anymore, no more audio pop. I'm actually running into squads unintentionally now and we're surprising each other. By the time we've heard each other, we're too close to do anything but fight. Lowkey the unheard edition is the gift that keeps on giving, that debacle seems to have kicked them into gear, albeit 4th gear from 5th lol
What the actual f*ck without talking to other people about this, I can guarantee you it's a you thing.
Audio pops are definitely still there and super annoying and as you can see in this video, you can hear people normal walk super far into the distance.
Literally nothing in your comment is relatable or remotely close to my and friends experience or reddits/youtubes experience from what I can tell.

It definitely still has major has issues. I've got countless clips of players moving not even 10m away from me, outside in the open, while not making a single sound.

The fact that running 5 feet away from a open window 2 whole flors above someone 50 feet away arround the corner makes it sound like they are about to step on your heel is unforgivable

8:05 Please try having the person listening on the rocks to the right and run back down the spiral metal stairs with the other player, IIRC the person on top can hear the person below them moving up and down the whole spiral staircase
This is truly the worst in the gaming industry to date in terms of audio implementation. No wonder sitting in the corner is so OP.
Regarding the bullet crack bug - it is crack is created like a straight line perpendicular of the shooter's body. That line goes the same in front of the shooter, the same AS BEHIND the player. You hear the same crack even if you are far back behind for example your friend that shoots further in the distance - you may not hear the shots from suppressed gun, but will hear the cracks and suppression effect and freak out that someone is shooting at you! However, I am so damn tired of BSG's support team that I basically done with them. I need to go through their own logs to show them obvious stuff instead of them asking me one and the same simple questions they can get their answers from. Like talking with some babies. //sorry for the venting.. just thinking about reporting bugs to BSG makes me boil at this point
What you really need to know is that, 6 or 7 years later, Tarkov still fails at the basics.
Finally! People thought that they should listen people from over 400m! In reality even with headphones you cannot hear walking sounds past 40m! I play airsoft wearing Sordins! And the max distance i can hear in environments that footsteps actually make distinct noises up to 30m!
They need to sort hearing thru walls tbh, needs to be reduced ALOT, sure you can still hear with head set on, but it needs to be lessend.
Gotta admit, I'm still hearing folks a huge distance away, even without headsets on.
Except for stairwells, somehow they are treated like a vault door. LOL

The fact you can be on the other side of the map and another player (or presumably a scav also) starts shooting in your exact direction OR away from your exact direction and it sounds like you are being shot at is SO BAD. I believe this threw me for a loop numerous times before. Completely counterintuitive.
This is why I dont play Tarkov anymore. I always felt like I couldnt rely on my senses, first, the details on everything are murky it's usually dark everywhere, so you don't SEE that much. And everything you hear is under it's own laws of physics you have to learn by heart, otherwise the sounds will just confuse the hell out of you - because they don't work as sounds do irl.

The sound is so bad it’s insane they keep adding content and completely writing off a fix.
I think a good improvement to the current audio system would be to still have some audio occlusion if you had another state where being inside with the door or window open cause some muffling but not at the level of the full muffling a closed door or window causes.
whats even worse is alot of these areas have hight amounts of PVP and the fact that the quality of sound in these areas has been left like this for over a year is insane to me. cant remember how many times I've been basically snuck up on from some dude because their sound goes mute in some areas

Hey i just wanna let u know this but, i don't know if u know this. But if u can hear the rain from inside, that counts u outside meaning u would make shooting sound outside. But if u are hearing muffle rain, the game will count u as ur inside
As a rat iv been buffed by this because of my high convert movement, tip to lv l it up lower move speed till theres no speaker icon then move 20m .

You know, after sitting through this whole video, a Tarkov asmr channel wouldn't be a terrible idea. Aside from the shooting, grenades, and glass breaking, the testing portion of this video was actually relaxing. I know, asmr = cringe, but hear me out
Around 3:20, while the backwards shooting is obviously a bug, are you sure the "shoot through a door" crack isn't just bullets penetrating the door and flying towards your PMC?
14:05 You can see bullet holes appearing on the stairs in front of the left POV. Are you sure there the bullet crack sounds are actually a bug, or are the rounds actually penetrating the door in the right POV and whizzing past the left POV? At 14:21 they hit the PMC as well, so there's definitely real bullets passing by the listener unless I'm misunderstanding something
Of course, when you fire in the opposite direction towards car extract, that is definitely a bug.

I love how looking through your scope with the wepaon already at the ready position makes a sound louder than someone crouch walking. How does that make any sense?

EDIT: How do you deal with a rat camping in 1 spot making no noise ??? You listen for ADS audio cue, that way you cry less about rats.

@@UncrownedAsura I could care less about rats. If you hear their ads it's already too late for you. Rats can be easy to avoid sometimes. The problem is that loud ads and other sounds actually encourages slower gameplay since people can hear you from longer distances and know that you are coming. I personally think that slow gameplay is worst than maybe saving you from getting killed by a rat a few times. I'm not saying that taking things slower is a bad thing either. Let me give you an example. You are in dorms on customs, you get into a fight, you reposition, but then you loose your element of surprise because you scope in. How is that a fun mechanic, nor is it realistic. This one guy did a video testing real headsets and seeing what distance you could hear things in real life. I get that it is a game and there needs to be balance, but ads making a sound that goes 20m makes no sense.
i think what they should do next patch is optimize their game firstly then maybe tinker with the audio bugs

7:00 i would disagree. I maybe wouldnt call the distinction extremely ovious, but, to me, with my head structure and IEMs at least, the sound from when a PMC moving above sounds like it is distinctly above/at the top of my head (at least when the PMC close to directly above).
So, in conclusion that verical directional sound is actually decent. The problem is that, since cealings are, like, 3m (correction: effectvely 1.3m, cuz PMC height) tall, anyone who is further than 3m (correction: 1.3m) horizontally away from you is more away from you, than above you. Which means that the angle quiclky gets too small for you to determine direction based on how your head muffles the sound when it passes through/the sound engine callibration is too bad for that (it is callibrated for an average head, not your head, after all). And using the regular "latency between left and right ear sound arrival" method is impossible, since both ears have abouth the same vertical position. So, a more distinct, even if unrealistic, differentiation between differentiation between a sound that has and hasn't passed through a cealing is likely required.
Correction: i forgot that the PMC has height, so, the cealings are, effectively, like, 1.3m tall (so the range of someone being more away from you than above should also be 1.3m). This also means that laying down facing the sound should theoretically help (albeit, not much in absolute terms).
At the end, experiment suggestion: try crouching and leaning or laying and leaning, see if that helps a bit with vertical audio. IRL it should, since the latency method should now work, since ears will have different vertical positions (which, on a sidenote, is probably why animal tilt their heads), but i doubt it works that way in game (although if it does, that would be a usefull and interesting discovery).
How did we get to a place where the sound is so screwed up after the game has been out for so long?
At least in PVE I can hear my teammates push all the way to turn on power while I'm in the locked rooms inside the dome building. I can hear them running and gunshots.
Idk if that realistic or not. I haven't touched grass in some time.

I know I could hear voiping from D2 while hiding in second or third floor bathroom inside of dome (bathroom run lol). One guy was complaining there were campers and trash talking them.

Binaural mode helps, I forgot to mention that I'm using it. But is not perfect, just a bit better
@@Gigabeef I often have this exact issue even with binaural. Things behind sound like they are infront, so I'm never 100% confident until I turn my head to verify but it really should be far more obvious.

That's the slow crouch test, it's basically the same as regular crouch (13-15m)

i swear i've noticed this with AI on spt the SAIN Mod makes them play off audio pare this with how bad player's ears are with zero headphones you get to sneak up on scavs unless they have headphones.

Slow crouching shouldn't be audible up until 5 meters MAX. There needs to be a proper stealthy sneak option in the game to be able to sneak up on players.

A stealth mechanic would be cool, but not how the game is currently set up. There’s no way a person wearing 20-30-40kg of kit and firearms could sneak up on someone in this scenario
Now Comtac 4 would even be more scalping
I would bet money that the reason the audio is a cone is because of how they do culliing, with their spaghetti code there is either a performance hit if they increased the range outside of that cone or they actually can't without redoing the entire system.
Or it's because sounds are louder from in front IRL.
The sound in eft is almost as bad as the optimization of streets…

It's too late now, given wipe is a month away and they don't want to delay that, but I do think anyone that is capable of it, should be moved onto a audio rework and focus on that before anything else.
