Steinhart is amazing. Günter states he made that company wanting to make a great watch for everyone at a respectable price, not cheap. He has made the working man’s luxury watch.

Watching and commenting on a video about watches on social media is, by definition, caring about other people's opinions about watches.

    • @kaczynski2333

@@SamuraiJacksoninteresting take. Accepting your premise, reading articles is also "caring about others' opinions"; OK, if you don't take information from extrinsic sources, how are you meant to be informed about the items you consume?
It's pertinent to observe that the only people who care about what watch you wear are other people who are into watches.

Steinhart is the only homage brand I wear. I have owned 3. My favorite is the 39 mm Pepsi gmt on aluminum bezel. A micro adjust clasp would be nice, though.
And I am not cheap. I have 6 Omegas, and yet the Steinhart still gets plenty of wrist time.

I work at Tag Heuer on Via dei Condotti, and up till the end of March, at that exact Tissot store.
Italians generally have no taste in watches from brands that aren’t Rolex. Every luxury brand that has a strong presence worldwide which isn’t Rolex, Panerai or Omega simply doesn’t have much of a market among Italian collectors. They all want Daytonas and Subs. Most of the Italians that walk into our Tag store think they cost €200-€1000 so when we tell them an Aquaracer is €3750 they gasp and say “but how is it so expensive if it’s not Rolex!?”
It’s embarrassing to share a nationality with self-titled “collectors” who don’t even know Tag Heuer exists and is Swiss as well.

I've owned several Steinhart and it is my favorite boutique brand. I like mine because it is a good solid watch for a price that I can afford, they are great quality, and at 42mm they are a perfect size for me. I'm sensitive about someone thinking I'm wearing a copy of another brand so the Steinhart models I've owned are in less obvious color schemes. I did own a blue model some years back, I think it was darker than yours, and I wish I still owned it. I own one that is all black PVD and I wear it on a Navy NATO strap. I own a Pepsi GMT and even though it is a close lookalike to the Rolex GMT it isn't as recognizable to the average public. My third one right now is the Ocean 500 Titanium model with straight hands so this makes it a Steinhart original design. This is my favorite of the 3 that I own. Remember DeBaufre? the sister brand to Steinhart. I once owned a DeBaufre big Flieger watch, maybe 47mm. I really liked it and sometimes wish I still owned it.

I've got 3 Ocean One 42mm watches which I've owned since 2017. My first was a Black with Black Ceramic Bezel, followed by Pepsi GMT and Finally a Green Bezel Black Dial Kermit Homage. Great watches for the money although the clasp pin broke on the Kermit so swapped the Bracelet out for a run of the mill Black silicone strap instead..👍👍

I had this very Steinhart a few years ago. It was one of my first watched. It was a great watch but his is when they were still using the Soprod movements. Some of those Soprods were lemons. It got sent into Steinhart twice and after the warranty expired I had to take it to a local watchmaker before I sold it. Minus the watchmaker fees I only lost $50 on it. I believe Steinhart is not using Soprods anymore; which is good. Overall I would still recommend them.
Steinhart customer service was great and I think the watch was really sold feeling. I actually owned two Steinharts. The other was their homage to the original Explorer II. I bought that one so early in the hobby that I did not even know it was an homage. Another bonus, you can get a replacement bracelet for like $80 if yours gets all scratched up.
I would call Steinhart a "livable" watch rather then a beater. You can live with it and not worry too much about it.

that Steinhart in blue is beautiful. I have the Ocean 1 Black Ceramic 39 bc I have a smaller wrist. I'd LOVE a Rolex submariner but I'd rather take a month long tour of Italy than pay that much for a watch. And I'd worry about a bad ding or theft w a Rolex.

Steinhart has been fortunate enough to gain a good reputation among watch enthusiasts. They can afford to take turns and make more interesting watches, new and exciting textures and colors. Or when you are in the homage business why not make 39-41mm Radiomir, Calatrava, Tank, Driver, pilot type 20, ... Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Art and Craft, field, …. watches. Enthusiasts are not satisfied with one or two watches, they want more of a variety of watches. We are more than happy to pay a little extra for their extra effort. Sooner or later you will vomit when you hear the word Diver, GMT, Jubilee, ... But It feels like SH is satisfied with what they have achieved and does not want to develop further. I understand that the first years of establishment can be difficult and demanding, but when everything starts rolling, you can afford to be creative.

I love that blue dial Steinhart. I had it for a while in my collection. I liked the 42mm size and the fact that it is stainless, some things you can't get from another Swiss brand. The dial looked amazing. Incredible value. I would get a Steinhart over a Seiko any day. I still have two other Steinhart's in my collection. Those watches were some of the first mechanical watches I owned and are partly responsible for getting me into this hobby. Highly recommended. Good video.

Hey Randy, this was a cool change of pace from your usual content! The video does highlight one of my main concerns with wearing a Steinhart, though. You said people were “eyeing” your watch thinking it was a blue sub. Are you not worried about being robbed because someone thinks you’re wearing a submariner? Maybe I think about it too much but I know I would be, especially with watch crime rising in big cities. Let me know what you think, cheers 🍻

I have three Steinhart watches: Two Ocean Ones (One Green/Green and one Blue/Blue) and a Nav II DLC. One colleague at work did ask me if the Green/Green Ocean One was a Rolex?
I told him: Absolutely not. It's a German Steinhart it cost me about 650€. If it had been a Green/Green Rolex Submariner ... the price would have been 23K €.... and I wouldn't be wearing that watch to work.
