you think it is a hobby but a Rolex AD knows it's a business with employees to pay and properties which have to pay the rent and if you see it from their point of view you will never be disappointed.
Thanks for the shout out my friend!! When I went to NY the Ghostbuster HQ had scaffold all round it!! It looks amazing now! Going back to the show! Love these vlog ones! There are plenty of amazing brands out there and they’d all give you the respect you deserve buying one of their watches! An old Accutron is on the list!
Rolex’s culture has always turned me off from the brand. The games they play with the waiting lists and having to buy a Rolex you don’t want to have the ability to possibly buy the one you really want. So many reasons I’ve spent my hard earned money on other luxury brands. Another gem sir.
To be fair… it’s not just rolex fault… the demand for rolex has skyrocketed the past decade…there are just not enough watchmakers in a small country like Switzerland.
@@gman6862 I hope you do realize that Rolex is mass produced; not hand made. There is very little interaction with human assembly and their timepieces. This has been covered to death. The hype + demand + AD supply manipulation = your experience walking into a Rolex AD.
I just imagined someone in Switzerland frantically shaking a huge bell, waking up the whole Rolex HQ for an emergency meeting. DEFCON ONE, THE GENT HAS ABANDONED US.
Completely agree that adding Grand Seiko to your collection takes certain level of dare I say maturation in watch collecting. For me, when I added quartz Grand Seiko to my collection this year, it was kind of completion of the whole circle as a watch collector. (I own Seikos, Rolex, Omegas, Casios, Hamilton and many others)
Y, I’d get Hemingway’s vintage bubble-back before I got the Explorer - more character and history behind it. It’s simply more interesting to talk about.
3 watches for a trip like that ... That's hard but I came up with mine. 1. Steinhart Ocean One 2. Citizen S100631 Diver 3. Douglas X-15 Great video has always. I find myself making extra room for a new watch instead of shrinking my collection. I'll try better in 2023 to keep my collection where it's at or at least I'll try. 😂🤣😂🤣
Currently in Nakano Japan, listening to this video as I commute to purchase my first ever luxury watch, an Omega Seamaster. As always, thanks for your content, and especially thanks for adding value to this experience!
After years of collecting, when I’m finally able to get a rolex, then a few months after, I have to let it go because of a nickel allergy that I developed from the 904L steel. And only after that I got to know that rolex rash is a real thing. So yeah, I’m done with rolex too 😂
My problem is more so with the proud prideful snobby owners of Rolex watches than with the watches themselves.... Maybe if they buy a better watch, they can give the money saved to charity, or buy less expensive watches and give them out as gifts....
Great film of NY. Haven’t been for a few years now, but must return. Interesting piece ref the travel trio. The last 2 trips I have been on were thus. Barcelona, my trusty Casio Pro-Trek for my daily jog, my Citizen pro master Aqualand for my swims, and my Breitling B1 for evening. When we popped to Prague for the weekend, I took my Pro-Trek again for my runs, and knowing I would not be swimming, I took my Breitling Endurance Pro for day wear, and my awesome Omega Speedmaster for evening. Looking forward to seeing other subscribers trio of travel pieces. Well done, keep up the great show. Thanks, Brian .
I recently got wiped out as a trader (recession) and I had to sell my “entire” collection, which consisted of just two Rolex’s. This was however, the best thing that could have happened for my long term watch collecting; I was forced to appreciate less expensive and *more humble* options. I just recently ordered my first watch of the new collection. Oris Aquis 36.5 blue dial. I’m probably more excited than I’ve ever been to get a watch in the mail.
In 1973, while my older brother was buying his GMT Master, the Jeweller asked me if I was interested in one. I was 16, in high school, and worked part time. He said I could lay it away, and pay on it bi-weekly. I went for it. It took a year to pay the $CAN around $280 off. 48 years later, the wrist check right now is my 1973 Submariner 5513.
Great video mate. Think this is the way many of us feel about Rolex. Even if you care about its tool watch heritage its hard to escape looking like a tool yourself wearing one in this day and age. Man really loving Accutron's revival, and its great to see you point out Newman's Spaceview. You should get yourself a vintage Accutron Astronaut, the official watch of Nasa's X-15 rocket plane and the CIAs A-12 program. Not to mention a favourite amongst the early gemini astronauts. Just an awesome watch.
Showing my age here, but as a young kid I remember the introduction of the Bulova Accutron watch. Even that young, I understood it was supposed to be a very special watch. Seeing it's return, it's like finding your long lost love.
@@TheNotoriousKID was actually calling myself a tool haha. I have a sub just like everyone else, just not super comfortable wearing it out these days because of the flex culture mentioned in the video.
I love this particular Accutron reissue. While it lacks the tuning fork, I think the Sellita is a home run for daily and longterm wearability with low cost of ownership over time. Really cool looking piece, the dial is lovely and the crystal is incredible! Great episode, and a good reminder that I ought not to take Grand Central's ceiling for granted just because I see it a few times a year. It really is remarkable. I still remember the first time I saw it - stopped me in my tracks!
When traveling, I usually take my Casio Oceanus (OCW-T200S-1AJF), or my Citizen Satellite Wave (CC3005-85E). It is easy to change the time zone on them. I usually use Geneva as my base, so, of course, I have to take a Swiss watch along, as well. A Tissot, Frédérique Constant, or my Glycine.
A decade or so ago I owned a fair few "high end" watches. To cut a long story short, I sold them all and went on a watch collecting hiatus for other pursuits. Now I'm collecting watches again I'm not bothering with the Omegas, Breitlings and others and having a total blast with "affordables". Finally, I'm collecting what I *love*; not what the "scene" says I should love...
So happy to see the accutron love. The old accutrons are my absolute favorites. The tuning fork movement just fascinates me since its such a different approach. I own three currently, a astronaut, a spaceview and an omega f300. I think next watch goal for me is either a modern accutron with their new movement or an old speedmaster just because I've always wanted one.
I like Rolex as a product, but hate their business model and the culture surrounding it. I've moved on to Omega and haven't looked back. I have a SMP300 black dial that is stunning, a Sapphire sandwich Speedy and soon a white dial Aqua Terra (which I think is the unsung hero of the Omega line). Not only do I love the Omega lineup, I feel valued as a customer when I walk into an Omega boutique. The last few times I've purchased a piece from the boutique in Green Hills, we spent the better part of an hour drinking Weller and nerding out over dozens of watches, from G Shocks on up. I didn't just walk away with a historically relevant timepiece that I find amazing, I had a great time talking with the watch enthusiasts that worked there, and to me, that was proof that you aren't just buying the timepiece, but the experience itself. Compare that to the drug deals I had to engage in with ADs to try and get a Rolex and I felt it cheapened the brand because the experience was so beneath it.
I bought an Alpina Seastrong 300 m quartz in January and it’s been fantastic (rare watch to meet my specs in a high end quartz). Tonight I gave my wife for our anniversary the Alpina Seastrong Comtesse quartz as the ladies version of mine. She loves it. I think Alpina is highly under rated as a Swiss brand. Suggest a look; Joma Shop and others have huge sales occasionally. I wanted a high end 300 m + quartz with 44 mm case and 22 mm band, etc., so narrrowed it down to the Alpina and a Longines Hydroconquest. The sale price on the Alpina and the heft of it won over the Longines more dressy thin feel. Also, the lug to lug length on the Longines was just too long for my wrist.
Rolex has become a nauseating status symbol. Of course it's a good watch but cannot tolerate the games they play. There's plenty of interesting watches out there to choose from for less money that offer quality.
I like to travel with mid range watches and these are my trio Seiko Sarb033 - the elegant one yema superman - the sports one classic square vintage casio - the daily. The sarb033 is so nice that I usually just swap bands and use it for all occasions, it's really an all rounder
It's criminally underated to be fair, whatever criticisms people may have about Seiko as whole one cannot deny that they do come up with UTTERLY beautiful designs that don't slavishly mimic other designs
Fortis…. I have never quite seen your fascination for it, but to each his own. You certainly have a most unique set of watch collecting goals. I hope they serve you well!
My 3 travel watches are as follows: 1) Casio G-Shock 6900 solar, this has been a true friend to me. 2) Seiko quartz a square watch that looks like a Cartier Tank, a classy dress watch 3) Victorinox INOX diver BTW i was also looking at Accutron, beautiful watch TGV.
I'd suggest looking into the Dugena clone of the Tank. It's closer in dimensions to the Cartier and much easily slips beneath your shirt and jacket cuff. I broke in the leather band by simply flexing it by rolling and waving it on itself with finger and thumb with both hands, ehh you'd know what to do with 100% made in China kit.
So. I was in Paris yesterday and being a watch fan, I went down to the Galleries Lafayette where almost all major brands have a large display. (No Tudor😮). And to get into the Rolex store, you needed to get on a list. Probably 100 plus models in the store, none for sale. Get on another list. Left with a perfect watch for my 20cm wrist- a blue Panerai Radiomir. Not a TGV watch but I love it. You did influence me on my Speedy, my Tudor S&G GMT, as well as what I’m tooling about Europe wearing- a Glycine Airman DC4 GMT. And also have gotten better deals from Myers’s using your name. Many thanks.
Nothing like exploring New York City on a fine autumn day with your favorite watches on hand. A great video, it really whetted my appetite to visit NYC again soon.
As a current Rolex owner, I also can't stand what they've become and the toxicity surrounding the brand. I've been on a "waitlist" for over a year for an AK and I find myself asking how in the world this is a luxury experience. Very close to selling off both of my current Rolex models. With the price one would fetch for, I'm spoiled for choice and I could buy a piece that's 5 times the watch with the money. Also hate that I can't daily wear Rolex because of all the crimes in major cities. You have all this money tied up in a luxury piece, then can't even enjoy it without having to worry about looking over your shoulder every 5 minutes. No thanks.
The Bulova museum video got me into Bulova. I now own a Lunar Pilot and Precisionist. My "grail" is the Accutron Spaceview. I literally just watched Wall Street today. Such a classic. Great videos as always. Keep up the great work!
My top 3 travel/Holiday watches in random order are 1/ Seiko Prospex 62MAS 200M SBDC101. 2/ Ginault Ocean Rover2 3/ Steinhart Ocean One 39 Double Green on the white Steinhart rubber strap. That’s what I took on my last break anyway.
Formex Essence 39mm (white dial) - Casual Oris Aquis 41mm (green dial) - Diver Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer (black dial, all stainless) - Pilot All of these can also be dressed up if needed. LOVE this trio. Last one on my list is an Oris big crown pointer date in blue on bracelet.
I rather go for the Tudor Monte Carlo heritage chronograph because it's a true Tudor design. The black bay is to much of a wannabe vintage Rolex and samething with the Tudor pro. I rather buy a original Tudor design and not a design that looks like something else
Excellent video, TGV! My normal travel trio: 1. Tudor GMT 2. Normally a Steinhart Diver of some ilk 3. A Dan Henry Chronograph Love the shots in Grand Central. You should stop by Grand Central Watch. Excellent folks. You would love what they do. Also enjoyed Russel’s video. He has really come along as a content producer. Love the Accutron. I’d take that all day over any typical modern Rolex. Regardless of price. I must admit, I have not fallen in love with Grand Seiko yet. I should probably take a deeper look at them, but they never seem to grab my attention and hold it for long. There are so many options and models it is hard for me to keep them all straight. Thank you as always, my friend. Excellent work. Looking forward to the State of the Collection. Onward and upward. Be well, my friend!
Collecting goals of 2023 would be my first cosmonaute, curious to see if breitling will indeed release a production version next year. Carpenter’s space trip with the cosmonaute was on my birthday so well… that’s my excuse! TGV if you come to Japan I’d happily be your guide, I’ll bring my spaceview
Another great video TGV. I bring 4 watches on my business trips which always involve crossing time zones so on the flight, it's lightweight, probably the best world time watch of all time, my $30 Casio Royale. Once I arrive, an Omega Seamaster and a Grand Seiko and being in a tough environment which is part of my work, a G-Shock Mudmaster. I can't say I'm done with Rolex as I never started. I will never suffer the indignity of queueing up to give a company $10k. I wouldn't wait in line to enter a restaurant, why would I do it for a Rolex? My other feeling about Rolex is that it has become cheapened (an oxymoron of course) by becoming a fashion watch. It's Daniel Wellington on steroids, or maybe the Louis Vuitton handbag of the watch world. And they're not rare at all. A million watches a year is 10 million in 10 years. There's no shortage, except in people's minds.
One of your best videos (certainly a favorite, personally), thank you for taking the time/sharing and wishing all of us only the best on our future goals! P.s: buying a grand seiko in japan would be memorable no doubt
I would happily pay retail for Rolex providing it was delivered within a month or two. The "real" prices for these things or two year waiting list, just make me think they can do one.
Travel trio is Seiko Turtle SRPE93, Hamilton Khaki Auto 38 black dial. and Seiko 5 (SNK809). I inherited a 1965 Datejust turn-o-graph from my good father. Reference 1625 two-tone. I remember he said Rolex was the best and at the time it was seen as a tool watch and for people that needed something reliable, durable yet stylish. Nowadays it’s all about status and superficiality. It makes me sad because I fell in love with the brand due to the history and because my godfather(which was like my grandfather really). I think if I get one, it might be pre-2000. Possibly birth year and when the brand was still tool-ish.
I recently purchased an Accutron Gemini Blue Dial, Ref. 26C03 and I absolutely love it. It's beautiful, accurate, and original. It baffles me why so many CZcams watch enthusiast overlook the brand.
My collection has Omega, Patek, and many other pieces - there's been change, where I parted with my AP Royal Oak pieces (had one on bracelet in steel and rose gold (OR) on strap). Since 2012 I've mainly focused on AP + Patek and Rolex, but it was only in 2018 when I bought my first DayDate in Rose Gold, with Black MOP Diamond Tahitian dial, fluted bezel and President bracelet. Since then I've bought a Patek 5170G Chronograph, which I adore - BUT I'm enjoying my DayDate a lot. It has that 80's nostalgia going for it, rich history and a very useful feature that I use everyday. In public, I probably would not wear it, but as I spent a fair bit of time at home - it has become my go to piece. I just ignore all social nonsense and wear what I like to wear. TGV have you parted with your Day-Date?
Thanks TGV for the excellent content. I really enjoyed seeing NYC as well. I try to visit a few times a year and always enjoy my time there (I am a born and raised NYer). For a recommendation: I personally own the Grand Seiko SGBW231 and it never disappoints. Iconic, well executed, a true modern classic.
My favourite travel trio of watches for TGV's kind edification; 1. Any one of the TISSOT PRC 200 Chronographs. 2. Raymond Weil Tango Chrono. 3. Cartier Tank (When dining out with the wifey).
Yeah brotha after I got the Explorer 114270z and the Submariner 14060m .I have no more desire for another Rolex. Those are the only 2 I ever wanted great video pizan 🇮🇹

Yes! I often have the same thoughts. As watches, I love my Rolex, but often loathe what they represent. Not so recently I lost my cool a little in an AD…. “tell me what COSC is…. explain ‘superlative chronometer’… you guys think you’re working in a jewellery shop, get me someone who knows what they are talking about….”. I enjoy going into any dealer apart from Rolex. So, then I want to chop mine in, but then I can’t…. but I’m so close. If I did, I’m with you on the Willard, always wanted one. I’d keep my Sinn EZM3F, which I wear often to work and it reminds me that Rolex is not ‘all that’. I’d definitely get a JLC, I’ve always felt if I ditched all Rolex for JLC it would be an elevation of my own refinement and I’d feel less if a ****. But I still love my Rolex. …it’s all very difficult, can I have both? But I don’t want both. It’s like being a hopeless addict who knows what’s better for you but can’t give up!!
The Oris aquis is definitely next on my list. Amazing specifications for the money and they really pop in person. I agree 💯 about Rolex. In fact it's turned me off a bit from my bb58. I've thought about trading it on for some " watch nerd " watches.
So many people jumping ship. I got my IWC Mark 16 recently and finally realising that I don't NEED a Rolex! JLC , Cartier, Omega, Doxa, Blancpain, VC , Grand Seiko..... honestly who needs Rolex anyway. Good watches if you didn't have to fight for them and if they were priced better. You're paying more money for hype, marketing and investment potential... that's not what this hobby is about for me
Yema might release an interesting looking micro-rotor movement according to their recent posts 😬. If they make it affordable it would be pretty amazing
I wouldn't wear a Yema if they gave me one they pretend they make their watches in France Designed Developed & Assembled in France when they are made in China including there inhouse movement. Very Disingenuous !
I would search for a vintage Yema that is in good condition. They are fine and can still be serviced. They look awsome if you like retro. I have two Meangraph's and they are fun.
3 watches for travel: I go to LA to watch the dog when the kids are out of town so 1. Beach beater: Casioak GA-2110ET all gray. 2. Vintage: Leonidas 4002 late 50s 33mm chronograph with cream dial. Perfect size on my 7” wrist on leather strap. Worn by my cold warrior uncle in the USAF where he might have acquired it on post in the Phillipines or Panama. 3. The total cop out: Apple Watch regrettably unmatched for cardio (hiking, running, swimming workouts)
Rolex watches are quality but the crown 👑 symbol is extremely tacky imo. Don't need Mercedes hour clock or crown to symbolize luxury. Rolex dealerships are disgusting I hate them all lol
Love the video TGV! Appreciate the takes on Rolex and their place in a collection and social media nowadays. My go-to trio for travel: - Casio F91W for any situations where I need a beater/something that can get dirty. - Seiko moonphase 7f39-6029 on a black NATO for casual day-to-day (I actually picked mine up a few years back for $100). - Omega Seamaster 2553.41.00 w/ green wave dial for gatherings and any outings. Watch goals for the near future (not sure if I can make it happen within a year haha): JLC Reverso Duoface (preferably w/ a moonphase) to fill that standout piece in my collection.
I TOTALLY get this. Used to love Rolex adds as a child, a man's watch! I wanted one. But... The reasons I will never buy one is: 1. Too many don't really care about watches, but wear Rolex to show their succes. 2. The price. 3. The cost of maintaining a Rolex. 4. The fact that you can't just buy the Rolex you want when you want it. PS: Urban Gentry's vids are sublime - even better made than Rolex watches. Top of the pop.
I live in Perth, Western Australia...and I travelled to my hometown of tropical Cairns, North Queensland, a few months ago...winter here...to visit my few family for the first time since Covid arrived. The 3 watches I took? All Seiko's, I confess. A 1000m quartz Tuna: SBBN040, a 7548-7000 on a jubilee, and a 7C43-6A00 on a modern silicone accordion strap....still my favourite watch at the moment. It's very wearable...and I think it's a fascinating snapshot of its time. Keep up the entertaining videos! 🙂
I work in a hospital, a watch for me is a strict no (I refer you to infection control). A basic level watch, yet feature packed & pleasing to my mind is my direction. I'm happy in the Mission impossible dw290. My travel watches as a list of three : the Casio Oceanus T150 is the high end solar charging, atomic sync world traveller- with self setting hands. The Casio Lineage 700d solar charging, atomic sync is a chronograph piece with tri-compax design- world time, function & 24hr indicators, it suits a leather strap for a classic dress chronograph look. My last choice: Casio dw5610 G-shock with tough solar, multiband 6, world times, chronograph, timer, alarms & 200m of water resistance, a very capable piece. Awesome content. Stay healthy, ciao.
So cool to see Russ on your channel. Seeing an Accutron without a tuning fork movement is complete heresy in my opinion. I have restored many an Accutron and love them but have always been annoyed they kept on using the tuning fork logo when they scrapped all the tooling long ago. So now to call a watch a. Accutron when it’s not is such a real shame. Had they reinvented the 214 or 218 they would sell like hot cakes.
Top three for air travel: Tudor GMT, Breitling Trans Ocean Day/Date on brown leather, Junghans Max Bill 38 Auto w/sapphire crystal on brown alligator. Car travel: Rolex Sub 41 on oyster, Omega Speedmaster on black alligator, Panerai Radiomor Black Seal 8 day on brown suede
Travel watches, Omega Aquaterra 43 GMT black dial on a black sailcloth, black stitching Artem Strap, Breitling Titanium Aerospace Evo blue dial on the bracelet and Breitling Colt 41mm Cream dial on a brown leather strap! All bases covered!! Great video Brother!!
I absolutely obsess over the Grand Seiko sbgx263 but I simply can't afford it. The tech, the design, the history, that 9f movement! The perfect watch in my mind.
I just dropped my SARB 017 Seiko Alpinist off for a full service, and the estimate was $185. I'll stick to my sub $1,000 watches. They are beautiful workhorses with plenty of variety in the looks department.
Exactly,Seiko alpinist is the one watch I have that I'll never sell,I know full well it will last me a lifetime and it won't cost the earth to service and repair if needed. Also the alpinist simply fits any and every occasion
My most selected traveling trio+one are: 1. Rolex BLNR (116710) 2. Omega Seamaster 300 Diver (Black) on rubber strap 3. Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Duoface (Medium) on brown leather or black crocodile deployant strap 4. My +One: Sinn 757 II (Limited to 75 pieces) on a dark brown Sinn leather strap with cream stitching
In response to your Rolex bit; you're absolutely right. You can get similar quality watches from different brands for a fraction of the price. So if you collect with fun in mind, rather than price stability or possible speculative value, it makes a ton of sense to buy those instead. Not to mention you might be able to get some nice video sponsorships from those upcoming brands ;)
Travelling at the moment….with a trio. 1. Tudor Root Beer GMT ( on leather) 2. Christoper Ward Trident Mk3 Elite on hybrid. 3. Rolex Air King 2022. Love them all and have worn them all on my 5 day trip.
I usually only have 2 watches when travelling. But some times I have a 3rd. I do it a bit different. I’m in a period where I only have quartz watches. 1. Tag Heuer kirium quartz with the blue dial and of course bracelet. The size does that I use for almost everything! 2. Certina DS First quartz, white dial and white ceramic bezel. This is my beach watch. 3. Citizen Eco-Drive BM818003E. This is my hiking and hunting watch. So sometimes it’s packed for vacation. But not for every trip.
Gave up on Rolex. As an airline pilot I really wanted the Pepsi for it’s aviation heritage but wasn’t going to pay ridiculous reseller prices for it. Picked up an Omega Seamaster 300M and absolutely love it. Saved a bundle too over the Rolex 😃
Love watches but below comment has nothing to do with watches. It’s always nice to come back to watch your videos when feeling down. Somehow your passion and attitude about things is very calming. Stay strong, stay safe.
Favorite Trio : 1/ G SHOCK : because everyone should own at least one ! more solid and reliable watch ever made ! 2/ OMEGA SEAMASTER DIVER 300 M : Best diver's watch and cost to quality ratio ever ! Best Swiss movements PERIOD ! And on top of that it's James Bond's choice ! What else do you want ? 😁 3/ Rolex Daytona, Batman, AP Royal oak chrono, Omega Speedmaster, Breitling navitimer to have something more classy and dressy.
On my most recent trip last month I took with me: 1) Casio lineage (ani/digi, GMT) 2) Casio A700 (vintage) 3) Seiko “tank” (dress) I didn’t need a “sporty” watch, but it was perfect, and I wore each one sufficiently.
Buying your GS in Japan is a great plan that I can highly recommend. As a foreigner your can get big discounts! Always ask for it. On top of tax exemption (20%, like in most countries, all printed prices are including taxes in Japan), the big stores have foreigner discounts on top. And stores like Big Camera (an electronics store) do carry GS! More watch collecting zen, though, you have to get a GS from the pre hype era when they were still label "Seiko".
That Accutron Legacy is beautiful. I didn’t know they bought Bulova. Is that recent? Cause the recent Bulovas I’ve seen appear to be of much lower quality than I remembered them to be and for the same money.
I’ve been wearing a Grand Seiko SBGA231 (discontinued and now it’s the SBGA463) every day for 3.5 years. I beat it up. It’s unbelievably comfortable, rugged and only gains 1 second per week. Spring drive is amazing.
I said the same thing when I purchased my Cartier Santos XL chronograph but now I can't wait to get my wrist around that GMT2 Sprite "lefty" and this will be my holy grail watch for the rest of my life.

Well said!

2. Citizen S100631 Diver
3. Douglas X-15
Great video has always.
Sea Master!
@@FlorisWyers69 I actually got the planet ocean with blue dial in the 39.5 case size.
Why aren’t you buying a Grand Seiko?
@@dmarcellus sorry Derek, my trip was a total waste..

After years of collecting, when I’m finally able to get a rolex, then a few months after, I have to let it go because of a nickel allergy that I developed from the 904L steel. And only after that I got to know that rolex rash is a real thing. So yeah, I’m done with rolex too 😂
Ewwwww..... Rolex are garbage..... Way better watches.... Sorry about your rash....
My problem is more so with the proud prideful snobby owners of Rolex watches than with the watches themselves.... Maybe if they buy a better watch, they can give the money saved to charity, or buy less expensive watches and give them out as gifts....
You need to save up for the precious metal versions😂😂
Hope you come back 3x stronger……God bless
In 1973, while my older brother was buying his GMT Master, the Jeweller asked me if I was interested in one. I was 16, in high school, and worked part time. He said I could lay it away, and pay on it bi-weekly. I went for it. It took a year to pay the $CAN around $280 off. 48 years later, the wrist check right now is my 1973 Submariner 5513.
Adjusted for inflation, that's around 1800CAD - you see why people are angry with Rolex?
I am with you on the Willard and ultimately a Grand Seiko spring drive.
I'm a broke wearhouse worker so I'm just happy with my victorinox Maverick Chronograph and Alpnach.
It’s also hard to escape sounding like a broke hater calling someone wearing a Rolex a “tool”..
@@TheNotoriousKID was actually calling myself a tool haha. I have a sub just like everyone else, just not super comfortable wearing it out these days because of the flex culture mentioned in the video.
@@DavidScott-hi4fz what is a mechanical watch but a flex. I have a shit ton of watches for very precise flexes😂
Love your videos for the knowledge they bestow and inspiration they bring to learn more about watches. Wonderful hobby!
Thank you so much, have a great week ahead my friend!
We are so lucky indeed to have this wonderful hobby, well said.

I always travel with my Hamilton Khaki Automatic, Halios Fairwind, Baltic Aquascaphe. I usually have a few more with me, but those are the essentials.
Just purchased a Hamilton field king myself, really cannot justify spending $2000+ since I tend to be Rough on my watches and work with my hands alot!
I’ve never owned a Swiss watch. My 2023 goal is to take that plunge with one of the entry level Swiss brands.
I have my eye on the titanium Mido.
Favorite travel watch for me is my Citizen diver Eco drive. No worries just sun light.
Rolex has become a nauseating status symbol. Of course it's a good watch but cannot tolerate the games they play. There's plenty of interesting watches out there to choose from for less money that offer quality.

"You get a Rolex to impress others. You get a Grand Seiko to impress yourself."
Can' wait to see you pick your GS in Japan.
I like to travel with mid range watches and these are my trio
Seiko Sarb033 - the elegant one
yema superman - the sports one
classic square vintage casio - the daily.
The whole clandestine nature of acquiring a Rolex from a dealer is so so wrong and off putting, another great video full of honesty and insight.
Fortis…. I have never quite seen your fascination for it, but to each his own. You certainly have a most unique set of watch collecting goals. I hope they serve you well!
Lovin the videos, information and art. Great job, keep em coming, I'll keep watching. John
My 3 travel watches are as follows:
1) Casio G-Shock 6900 solar, this has been a true friend to me.
2) Seiko quartz a square watch that looks like a Cartier Tank, a classy dress watch
3) Victorinox INOX diver
BTW i was also looking at Accutron, beautiful watch TGV.
Travel watches (2):
1. Omega Speedmaster (pack leather strap and tool for warm days)
2. Any G Shock but currently GA-B2100
Less is more
Never leave home without my Mudmaster, Dan Henry Maverick or my Open Heart Bulova.
PURE CLASS.
I like your style my friend, thank you for sharing that and enjoy. Awesome trio.

TGV
So. I was in Paris yesterday and being a watch fan, I went down
to the Galleries Lafayette where almost all major brands have a large display.
Bring pepper spray and keep your head on a swivel, and be physically prepared to fight an attacker!
No thanks.
I’ll buy em at retail+10% from you
The Bulova museum video got me into Bulova. I now own a Lunar Pilot and Precisionist. My "grail" is the Accutron Spaceview. I literally just watched Wall Street today. Such a classic. Great videos as always. Keep up the great work!
My top 3 travel/Holiday watches in random order are
1/ Seiko Prospex 62MAS 200M SBDC101.
2/ Ginault Ocean Rover2
3/ Steinhart Ocean One 39 Double Green on the white Steinhart rubber strap.
That’s what I took on my last break anyway.
Awesome show as always TGV 👏 Those reissue Accutron models are fantastic. (Nice Mad Watch Collector cameo too!)
Formex Essence 39mm (white dial) - Casual
Oris Aquis 41mm (green dial) - Diver
Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer (black dial, all stainless) - Pilot
All of these can also be dressed up if needed. LOVE this trio. Last one on my list is an Oris big crown pointer date in blue on bracelet.
I think we're all a little over Rolex as a company now, aren't we? (Tudor divers look more Rolex diver than the new submariners anyway.)
Haha, very good point, they have the Sub feeling too!
Great point, thank you Owen,
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry black bay 58 looks closer to the gorgeous 50s/Connery era submariner, than the new ceramic Rolex ones for sure
My normal travel trio:
1. Tudor GMT
2. Normally a Steinhart Diver of some ilk
3. A Dan Henry Chronograph
Love the shots in Grand Central.
Bought my Datejust 1974 two tone silver linen dial $350 could have had my pick ☮️
I recently purchased an Accutron Gemini Blue Dial, Ref. 26C03 and I absolutely love it. It's beautiful, accurate, and original. It baffles me why so many CZcams watch enthusiast overlook the brand.
Love these type of videos TGV. No drumroll on the unboxing? Crazy! 😅🦖
My travel watch trio: Speedmaster Professional, SKX007, G-Shock
Omega and Bulova collaboration deserves a review. Fantastic video as always.
I recently purchased a Gen 1 Omega X-33 Speedmaster. This watch has brought me much more pleasure than any Rolex I have owned.

So, then I want to chop mine in, but then I can’t…. but I’m so
close.
I've been eyeing Tissot Couturier for a bargain Swiss automatic. Always enjoy your videos.
I bought a Tissot Seastar in orange at the MotoGP in Austin. It is quartz but to me it is fun and bright.
Favorite travel watches (not in any particular order): Vertex M60 Aqualion / Christopher Ward C65 Sandhurst / Damasko DC57

3 watches for travel:
I go to LA to watch the dog when the kids are out of town so
Wasn't long after getting into watches, that I too "bucket listed" taking a trip to Japan to purchase the Grand Seiko of my dreams.
TGV...you never disappoint. Never.
Love the video TGV! Appreciate the takes on Rolex and their place in a collection and social media nowadays.
My go-to trio for travel:
- Casio F91W for any situations where I need a beater/something that can get dirty.
- Seiko moonphase 7f39-6029 on a black NATO for casual day-to-day (I actually picked mine up a few years back for $100).
- Omega Seamaster 2553.41.00 w/ green wave dial for gatherings and any outings.
Watch goals for the near future (not sure if I can make it happen within a year haha):
JLC Reverso Duoface (preferably w/ a moonphase) to fill that standout piece in my collection.
Buying a Grand Seiko...in Japan......now that would truly be awesome.
I TOTALLY get this. Used to love Rolex adds as a child, a man's watch! I wanted one. But...
The reasons I will never buy one is:
One of my favorite videos in a while! Great vibe!
Travel watches: for the case…Omega Seamaster 300M, Omega Speedmaster, Omega Agua Terra, and wear G-shock 5610.
I love my GS SBGT241. The beads of rice bracelets, day/date complication and the gold star +/- 5 sec a year is thing to behold.
Long live the King --- the relationship may have hit a few bumps in the road, but Rolex is the true love
My most selected traveling trio+one are:
1. Rolex BLNR (116710)
2. Omega Seamaster 300 Diver (Black) on rubber strap
3. Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Duoface (Medium) on brown leather or black crocodile deployant strap
That Bulova is gorgeous 😍 would rather have that than any Rolex . It is more interesting.
Love watches but below comment has nothing to do with watches.
It’s always nice to come back to watch your videos when feeling down.
Somehow your passion and attitude about things is very calming.
Stay strong, stay safe.
Favorite Trio :
1/ G SHOCK : because everyone should own at least one ! more solid and reliable watch ever made !
2/ OMEGA SEAMASTER DIVER 300 M : Best diver's watch and cost to quality ratio ever ! Best Swiss movements PERIOD ! And on top of that it's James Bond's choice ! What else do you want ? 😁
3/ Rolex Daytona, Batman, AP Royal oak chrono, Omega Speedmaster, Breitling navitimer to have something more classy and dressy.
On my most recent trip last month I took with me:
1) Casio lineage (ani/digi, GMT)
2) Casio A700 (vintage)
3) Seiko “tank” (dress)
I didn’t need a “sporty” watch, but it was perfect, and I wore each one sufficiently.
Great vid, TGV! I hope you got to see some Wong Kar-wai films while you were in NYC. I saw “Days of Being Wild” again in September.
Loved the end when your reading a copy of Meditations. Watches for my wrist and Marcus for the soul lol.
When you said 50 is way far off I laughed real hard. Cheers brother
I said the same thing when I purchased my Cartier Santos XL chronograph but now I can't wait to get my wrist around that GMT2 Sprite "lefty" and this will be my holy grail watch for the rest of my life.
