    This band and The Sound are hands-down the greatest two acts of the 80s. Arrived on the scene around similar times and both concluded by ‘87. It’s really an anomaly to me that nothing before or since has captured the sheer beauty they crafted…

    The Chameleons are one of the great post punk bands that people should hear,should have been massive too.great interlocking melodies thumping drums and wonderful lyrics.All four albums are brilliant.

    I envy your experience of getting to listen to The Chameleons for the first time. For me, this was about 35 years ago. They've been a top 5 band ever since, and possess a magical quality that no other band does. A single listen through Script of the Bridge is better than any hour of therapy I've ever spent money on.

    the best 'unknown' band ever in my opinion. how they were not massive is a mystery that baffled many fans and critics. published three near flawless albums. each of which other bands wish they had as their greatest hits.

    This song is played in the closing credits of the film Beneath The Dark. The Chameleons , The Comsat Angels & The Sound are the three best bands of the 80's that most don't know.

    This song was recorded (1983) before the songs you were trying to find a comparison (Echo and The Church). Killing Joke is the name of a band that has some similarities. Killing Joke has some great albums and tracks. I recommend to listen to Killing Joke Night Time album. I believe the Chameleons played shows with Killing Joke. This Chameleons album Script of the Bridge is a masterpiece of work. Thank you for doing this reaction video.

      @@Alix777. I always thought thera are some similarities between High by the Cure and Thursday's Child by the Chameleons. The Killing Moon ? I dont actually find similarities with Second Skin. They were touring with the Killing Joke though after releasing Script Of The Bridge, Im pretty sure

      There was a private broadcasting radio in Italy Radio Popolare (still active) They would play every day New Year's Day by the U2 and Up The Down Escalator by the Chameleons. the days when their records came out SOmehow the laterr stayed quite underrated....

    I have the 1983 West Germany concert cd, which is out of print. I am happy you found the Chameleons, they are one of my favorite bands, Mark Burgess was way a head of the times!
    But I realize that this is what dreams of made of! But I realize a miracle is due, I dedicate this song to you.

    One music writer called this song the "Stairway to Heaven" of post-punk. This has been one of my favorite albums since it first came out. Definitely an under-appreciated band.

    Brilliant band, their second album "What Does Anything Mean, Basically?" Is even more dreampop-esque and is their masterpiece imo.

      Yeah I actually like their second album better as well. Even though my favorite song of theirs is View From a Hill, that second album is just something special. Has a sound all its own.

    Album from first song to last is brilliant. One of the greatest debut albums ever. The song "Here Today" is about the death of John Lennon through his perspective. Haunting, chilling, and amazing. I flew from San Francisco to London... and took a train to Manchester to see their reunion show. Complete euphoria.

    When the guitar came out I could tell you liked it. lol.
    They used to tune up a full step, and sometimes half a step or something. Because they had no clue what they were doing. Crazy to think.

    The band that never played stadiums unbelievable sound heard one song and 83 on a college radio station. I had to buy the cassette get it cassette. this album itself has a lot of nostalgia memories when I was in my 20s I turned my friend Jon onto it and he fell in love with the band. We did see them in New York City. It’s a shame and my heart goes out to the band that they never received the recognition that they truly deserve Mark. I love you guys. and you’re a total fucking genius as far as I’m concerned, I feel every word and every cord and every melody that you guys have belted out

    Wow, know this album since 1983-84. Released in Canada under the name of The Chameleons U.K. Listening to this song make me understand why I love so much Desintegration from The Cure. Other good songs on this record: Monkeyland or Up The Down Escalator.

    The band is really significant and substantial for what they brought to culture. This album is really solid with a similar feel, but never hits as hard as the title track, which I count as one of the best all-time songs for the reasons you touched on.
    You'll also make your way to Swamp Thing as well, which is iconic in a slightly different way.
    I haven't heard these two post punk bands mentioned in your vids yet, but definitely check out The Fall and Bauhaus. The Fall can get really zany, chaotic, and messy at times, but most of their earlier albums have some really interesting work. Bauhaus is just legendary with great vocals and instrumentation over their short career.

    Я думаю the Chameleons не были такими популярными в странах запада , так как у них была «темная» музыка с депрессивными оттенками (не текст, а именно музыка). Послушайте русскоязычный пост-панк - он именно такой . Я думаю, если бы они в 80-ых годах дошли до восточной Европы , то покорили бы всех своей музыкой. Мне кажется , чуть позже , именно в восточной Европе они обретут популярность , которую незаслуженно не получили во время существования коллектива. Определённо одна из лучших музыкальных групп - которая дала жанру пост-панка и dark pop новые черты. Практически весь современный пост-панк использует их нарратив.

    They where massive in germany. One of my heroes then! But they where not in the sound of the most „wave“ or „post punk“ bands. The Church and „Echo“ are close nearer. I remember the gig in 1985 well. Great concert!

    Absolutely right m8 Echo and The Bunnymen were produced by The Chameleons who were engineers from Liverpool and The band The Chameleons were from Manchester go figure. I used to think The Chameleons produced Echo & The Bunnymens 1st lp but I was wrong. Second Skin is a stoners paradise of love and stoned out ur head love. I don't smoke now but back in the day this band were the dogs bollox

    I just saw you reacting to Mariah Carey and it made me laugh because I felt a bit sorry for you, but at the same time my respect for you grew, lol. You’re openminded, that’s good. The Chameleons are a fantastic band, I knew you’d like them. Their debut Script Of The Bridge album is a must listen. You’ll love it.

    I always get a feeling that most of the chameleons stuff are influenced by DMT flashbacks, lol , i love mindset behind their music , Second skin reffing to that in my eyes at least, they have stuff for good trips and stuff from bad trip experiences

    Hi Alex. Post punk? I think you'd like The Comsat Angels. They have been described as the greatest unknown band. Signed originally to Polydor, their first 3 albums Waiting For A Miracle, Sleep No More and Fiction are regarded as their best work. They were exceptional. Heralding from Sheffield they were exceptional. They toured with U2 in their very early days. Bono said their music had " a terrible beauty" about it. Very true.
    Please do us a favour and investigate them. You will not be disappointed. Thank you. Chris

    Script of the bride is probably the best abum..all songs are fantasticand Second skin always creates somestorm in my head..I never understood why they didn t have a great success..for The chamelons was better then U2 or simple minds in 80 second..more complex music and better noise..

      A bit of an overstatement I say, even though some of their guitar riffs/tones are really inspired by the Chameleons. I've always thought however they sounded a lot more like the Bunnymen.

    Yeah, they sound a bit like Echo and The Bunnymen. Killing Joke is a band though. Their most famous song is called 'love like blood", that Nirvana was accused of ripping off.
