Great album probably Robert Wrattens best..

Saw them on this tour and also Richey's last gig after following them for years. I still have to beace myself before listening to this album as its sheer brutality leaves no stone unturned but it is such an incredibly important album.

Great, great band, defined my early twenties like the Smiths did my late teens.

WHISKEY never mixes well with anything other than a tongue, but I digress... millennials struggle with the 70s & it isn`t anything of your doing... if your Gramps wan`t a rocker in the 60/70 era, he more likely was one who despised those who rolled up on him jamming to "Hang on to Yourself" at the red & passed his bias onto further generations...the Bowie/Ronson run that culminated with the Ziggy tour that I attended with my art class Hunky Dory gang in 73 which was in direct opposition to Zepplin/hard rock that was the big ticket in what many in music are pointing to with David Jones, I mean Bowie`s legacy of many genre`s he explored... you gave it your critical best & perhaps his later works are more up your ally so Keep on rockin & giddyup Alex

I like all 3 of those Big Star records from the 70s, particularly Alex's songs. Elliott Smith covered Thirteen, which is my fav song from #1 Record. I never quite connected with Chris, but like you say, he departed too soon.

I concur with other comments on your lacklustre reaction to this album. Put some effort in or don't bother. There are other reviewers out there (many of them younger than you) who display more erudition and intelligence than you ever will.

Great band! Other albums of theirs like “carnival in Babylon” and “tanz der lemminge” are also worth a listen!

Ohhhh you forgot to do Tears Full Arrangement! Its well worth the listen and far more interesting than the album version

Look for a rendition of this song live on "playboy after dark." You can see the band do it and the pace , to me at least, is preferable. It clips along as gallantly as it should, if you ask me. For whatever that's worth. The videos here on youtube. They also play, "Saint Stephen," after. Even Hugh Hefner is rockin it tslkin to the lead singer, Jerry Garcia. Haha. I do believe you'll get a kick out of it if you haven't seen it already.

Wonderful band. Formed in 1980. Minimalistic arrangements beautifully expressed in few nostalgic notes. Bobby Gillespie, from Primal Scream, played bass in 1982. For those who say that he copies Kevin Shields, I want to make it clear that MBV was only formed in 1983, and Kevin Shields was not singing yet. Dave Conway was the singer. Comparisons with the first New Order are due to mere cross-pollination, since both bands shared the same record label and had close contact. Colin was the engineer from the studio the band did their own production mainly on the first two albums

From memory, Dave Allen went out with a recording device and recorded the kids in a local school playground for the ending of Miracles and Wonders ..

Dave Fielding (who does the more ethereal guitar stuff) always tells me his first influence was Hank Marvin from the Shadows. He and Reg were massive Bowie fans and I think Ronson obviously impacted them before they were even in bands... Mark's big influences were the Beatles and then Punk and John the Drummer, God rest his wonderful soul, was a massive Genesis fan and despite being right handed set his drums up as Phil Collins did and he learned to play right-handed on a left-handed kit which gave him some sort of uniqueness lol.. And I've seen a lot of bands over my 60 years but nobody hit the drums harder than he, He'd often be covered in blood post gigs in the dressing room ... P.S. I'm so happy to see your reactions to their albums. You have great insight into much of their workings just from your ears and brain and minimal previous knowledge .. Amazing .. please try Black Swan Lane - Under my fallen sky, out.. Mark worked with them on their first three albums and I was lucky to have joined Dave when he went to Atlanta to add his guitar parts to their Vita Eterna album in 2019... But if dream pop mixed with post-punk is your thing I'd love to hear your reaction to this sublime album...Under my fallen sky.. They also have that wonderful mix of wonderfully recorded acoustic guitars mixed in with ethereal electric going on...I'll give Dave the link to your channel. Moby caught lots of flack for having his music in ads (and movies). He always would say it doesn't matter how folks hear his music...whatever the medium. ($ didn't hurt)
