  • In this video I address a problem that's been going on for a while with the G35's power steering. The power steering was very stiff and almost undriveable.. That is until I found my solution ! I show you how to fix stiff power steering on any car with checking and changing your power steering fluid ! Having stiff power steering can be tough, try this and you wont regret it !

    I had my lower control arms replaced. Ever since , the steering is stiff. I did this described in the video. It helps a lot like your car. Later, I'll do it again to have more new power steering fluid than old fluid.

    I got a question. So today I was turning and out of the nowhere the steering got so stiff to the point where I could turn back without a lot of force. Any idea what it could be. Power steer fluid is normal.

      Says for 03-04 I35 that it uses atf. You should pick up some dexron III and follow the steps in this video. Hope this helps !

    Ive noticed how heavy mine is on my old 35 year old Mazda, compared to my civic, its bad, like you said, its like having no power steering. I doubt that its ever been changed in its life. I was going to crack the pipes off of the steering rack and drain it that way, will probably get most of it out the system, all that will be left is whats in the rack. Either way, its gonna be getting changed.

    I have a trouble of my steering wheel is stiff while I'm driving and turning on the road. I got in to a parking lot and the steering wheel is not turning at all. It's not lock but it's stiff. I don't know what to do but I would like to try this...

      Had the same problem with mine, and did this, then drove around and let the fluid mix in the power steering system for a few days and it went back to normal. If this doesn’t solve, check for kinked power steering lines, suspension components, or power steering pump.

    Try using wd 40 on the steering u joint, the grease drys out and gets hard on older cars and it makes the steering super stiff, some wd 40 on the joints or even taking them apart cleaning and re greasing them helps a ton

      WD40 dries out. Use a lubricating spray likr crc 556

      Your 2013 outback has the preference of using ATF for there power steering system. So you can follow the instructions in this video using the preferred fluid for your vehicle.

    I am pretty new to cars, but this seems pretty straight forward, except that 1/3rd of the fluid measurement. How did you measure 1/3rd fluid to be removed? and should I use the full new bottle - I mean is 1 full bottle = 1/3rd of the fluid removed? Does it work for Ford Explorer 2012 as well - my steering wheel feels really stiff.

      Steering system could be out of calibration. Should get it recalibrated and go from there.

      Yes entire bottle is fine to be added in increments. Just make sure you drive around and do necessary turning to mix the fluid throughout your power steering system. What model Hyundai haha ?

    Help, I have a 06 Grand Prix gxp yesterday I heard a noise when I was driving put it in park noise went away then when I try to turn it’s hella hard so I check and i barely had any power steering fluid so I buy more then I added it and it’s still like that and when the car is in park I can’t turn the steering wheel at all

      I had the same problem.l did as was instructed and it worked wonderfully. I did not have any pump so I pull the cover off the reservoir and rev the engine, the oil came out, and then I throw new oil into the reservoir and cover it and it worked. Under the hood was messy though which I cleaned.

      Steering feels great now after flushing this out one more time after the video. You have to let the fluid mix around for a few days of driving or so to feel the biggest difference.

      Called a hand siphon pump. Got mine at Walmart for under the bucks probably.

    I recommend after adding the new fluid turning the wheel back and forth with the wheel unlocked but the car OFF. If the pump was empty before you replaced fluid it can run dry for a moment which can damage it and also it will introduce tons of air bubbles into the steering system.       Any car that has power steering. Google the type of fluid your car takes and then go from there and siphon and replace.

      As long as it doesn’t have an electric power steering, method should work with vehicle designated P/S fluid.

    One tip I will suggest to people is clean out around the wheels. DIrt and grime builds up and can actually slow your steering. Just get a power washer and give it a hose.

      The fluid extractor I used is from Walmart. It’s called “Hyper Tough Multi-Use Siphon Pump”

      Yes sir, cuz that’s all you can really take out at a time once the fluid mixes while you drive.

      I did the flush a total of three times. Flush should be done once after every day or two of driving so that the new fluid added, has a chance to mix around. Do this up to three times so that the fluid can mix and disperse it self throughout the power steering system.

    For people who have electric rack you may have to change battery and make sure the battery is running good (check alternator too..)

      Alternator could function inefficiently due to old timing belt. Replace timing belt and see magic of steering.

      I did ATF along with the Lucas conditioner for the car in this video. Make a quick google search for your model and should tell you what PS fluid your car specifically needs if applicable.

    Wait, so after you take out 1/3 of the old powered steering fluid, do you just put the new power steering fluid that you put in, give the steering wheel a couple turns and that it and then never change it after a while!?

      You will do the same procedure 3-4 times to get all of the old fluid out. It needs to mix in the system driving around and taking turns, then siphoned out again and replaced with new fluid.

      Car can be cold or hot when extracting old fluid. To mix around, drive car for a few days then take out some more and replace with more new fluid and so on.

      Anything along the line of PS fluid will work fine, I know that dexron III ATF is preferred. Made the video universal, for all car types. Dexron III was used for flush off camera.

My pump never whined or anything just stopped working while I was driving lol. I didn’t mean anything negative by my comments lol. I was laughing at myself honestly. Trying to justify maybe air in the lines or old fluid. But my stuffs practically locked up. I wish I could comment a video but it’s rough. You seriously cannot move the wheel with one hand on my Camry. But it’s a Camry☠what more should I expect. It’s like driving a super old truck with no powered steering.       All good bro, my fault as well. Didn’t know what way you were coming off. But mine was pretty bad as well before I did the steps in the video. It would take a lot of force to steer as if I had 10-20% power steering left lol. But geez, those Camrys last forever engine wise. Hit the yard, look for a pump and make more money with it đŸ€‘..

      You have to mix the new fluid in with the old by driving and taking turns
 then take out more to fully replace your whole systems fluid. It’s really not that confusing.. can’t take out all fluid in system at once. Have to keep mixing and taking fluid out until you feel there’s more new fluid than old.
