I started following the NBA around 2002-2003, my fav NBA games were NBA Live 2003, and NBA Street Vol.2, (ahh the nostalgia!) Anyway, around that time- AK47 quickly became my favorite player. Here was this lanky 6'9 Russian dude with a 7'4 wingspan, crazy athleticism, amazing defensive abilities, would steal from point guards and block centers, dunk on you, knock down a decently reliable mid range and 3 pointer, fill up the stat sheet, worked hard, and was humble. He was definitely a unique player, and I even got his jersey and modeled my own play style off him. As a result of him being my fav player, I was also a huge Jazz fan. I remember all of these events in this video, the heart breaking moments losing to the Lakers and the Spurs, the bright moments beating the Rockets and the Warriors (same series that Baron Davis dunked on AK, lol- although AK had an insane amount of blocks that series)!. The trades and acquisitions, the rough patches with Coach Sloan, etc. It was definitely a very interesting stretch of years, lots of fun memories and exciting nail biting games. Thank you for this video and bringing me down memory lane :D

Nah, he was in tears in front of reporters, whining he wasn't used enough and it was the year before. I think. That hurt him with his teammates and other people in the league.
ALSO, that BD poster dunk just evens out the wonderful night he held Carmelo to 4-23 shooting and blocked him like, 6 times. Carmelo almost cried in the 4th quarter of that game, it was great lol.

  • @flibbidyx2

I remember it a bit differently as a Jazz fan. The first cracks were with Carlos Boozer. He started complaining about his contract during a time when he was not only injured, but the Jazz were winning with his backup, Paul Millsap, putting up numbers. That was the 08-09 season, and the team actually faltered after he came back. Boozer ended up choosing to opt into the final year of his contract, and with Millsap already making starter money, along with several other players on large contracts, the team started to feel the crunch. Starter Ronnie Brewer was traded away to save money, which made Williams unhappy. The 2010 offseason saw the real changes - Boozer, Kyle Korver and Wesley Mathews all signed elsewhere, as the team looked to save money, though they did trade for Al Jefferson to help make up for the loss of Boozer and the injured Mehmet Okur. They also added Gordon Hayward in the draft that year, but it would be years before he would become an all-star caliber player. Despite the changes, the team was winning, until at some point a rift developed in the locker room and the team started losing. That precluded Jerry Sloan's retirement, Deron Williams being traded and Andrei Kirilenko leaving to play in Russia.
