I`m using the R7 in Israel, we have Ka & Laser only here. at the first 4 hours driving I thought my detector is broken, zero alerts configured under wide scan, nothing. and then in an empty highway an alert from the back for 2mins. and suddenly a moving BEE3 behind.. following me.. never had a single false alert from this one. I LOVE IT!

It's funny you made this video because in the past few months they recently installed speed signs like these and I experienced the exact same thing with the V one Gen 2 in all bogeys mode. Some days the V1 will alert to the sign and other days It would not.
I also noticed the rear arrow never lit up when I passed the speed sign. I was thinking it has something to do with very low-power radar. I wanted to upload some dashcam videos of my situation but looks like I don't have to do that now.
Oh yeah V1 forever. ! That second bogey alert has always been awesome.

I’ve found mounting that my arrow detectors right below the rear view mirror helps them transition better from front to back because of the more centered view out the rear window. This location was actually recommended in my older gen1 V1’s manual and I’ve continued to do the same with my R7. When mounted too low, the seats start to block rear signals, when too high, the roof does.

Hey, i have an R3 it works great for me in Alberta, the one thing i always thought it was better to mount a radar up by the rearview mirror. Less interference from your engine electronics.? The higher it is the sooner you pick up radar's, hills,etc.. The R3 seems to work great for me, although i still have have to figure out how to update it. And I've had it for about 3-4 years now. My main use is on the highway. Thanks for keeping us updated.

What I get from this is that there are so many variables that make up the performance good/bad of a detector. First you have to start off with a good detector. Any of these qualify. Second you have to drive many miles to learn what alerts you can "tune out" versus one's that really get your attention. There are just so many environmental factors and each detector is different, even within a specific model.

For the R7, if uniden is listening, I think a few software tweaks can easily get the R7 closer to what V1 and the higher end escorts are doing. By increasing hold signal hold time by a few seconds, allowing the option for displaying number of threats in large font instead of the individual threat details, adjusting the new bogey alert, and rebalancing the front to back reporting, all of these tweaks can work together to provide a more refined experience. Not a super high priority for me relative to getting automatic lockouts incorporated but well within a firmware update’s ability to address.

In the US especially in the big city's no PD's use K/X band anymore.. K/A POP K/A I/O is the go too and laser. So my radar only runs those modes, Makes driving with radar detector much more quiet .. IF the police are running laser people will report on Waze giving ample time to adjust.. I couldn't justify spending an extra $200 to get a Redline 360 just for KA band so i went with Uniden R7 on amazon for $435.97 very happy.

It is possible that due to the increased sensitivity the R7 and Redline 360 may be be detecting reflection which is making it think it passing the radar site. Since we know that it is a balance between the front and rear antennas, it could explain the early side notification. Just thinking out loud. Either way, I think it was close enough not to be an issue because at that point you would hope the driver has slowed down to an ideal speed. Be interested to see if the R7 is affected when the auto lockout firmware comes out...one day!

  • @im_an_oreo_mix3109

    • @docw3202
      @docw3202 Před 3 lety +1

Mine does the same. Remember, we don't want to be alerted to speed signs. V1 either filters it out with the K-verifier or, also very common, the speed sign is off frequency (usually low).

@@Nhlhitz23 I went by another one today to which my V1G2 didn't alert. There is a way to turn K-verifier off and see if you can pick it up. If it does, it's filtering. If not, it might be too low or any one of a number of reasons. But, despite what people believe, most jurisdictions require speed enforcement equipment to be tested daily and certified by the manufacturer to be accurate and operating within spec for traffic radar. Most of these would not pass that.

I think that’s due to reflections. Maybe a firmware update can slightly reduce (or delay) the rear antenna sensitivity to prioritize the front antenna. So meaning, if it detects a front signal and then the rear picks it up as well, put a 2-3 second delay from when the rear signal actually visually alerts.

Testing them from long distance on HWYS would be good.I can tell you my old 9500ix has better range then a newer cheaper detector that is under 200 dollars.I plan on getting the 360--the basic one--I just need something accurate on HWY trips and I know the little ins and outs false alerts etc on escort products. But honestly with technology--if you simply need one for mostly HWY use--even a newer cheaper detector will work.On the other hand if you dip into the triple digits--like I do on trips when the HWY is clear--then investing in a high end detector is a must--that second or 2 notice when you are going 105mph can not only save you a ticket--but a trip to jail if you get an overzealous cop.I have a you tube channel and test my cars out I own at hi speeds to show performance and although I am safe and few cars are around--going over 100 could land you on prime time on cops--here is my Turbo CX-30--passport 9500ix and i would never do this without a radar detector.czcams.com/video/Tnityn1k9qE/video.html

@iPac9mm Because it's slightly thicker? I'mma hit you with a hell nah, at least has an OLED with proper modern graphics, not some 7 segment display with a bunch of single color LEDs straight out of the 90s. Hard to glance K vs Ka on a V1 I imagine.

@@1rstTry Yea 99.9% of the time K is bs like you said. I guess the only time it *may* be legit is driving thru a small "ticket city" where they have really outdated equipment. Most K falses are super weak and/or don't ramp traditionally anyways, so that's a clue. I considered disabling it, but muting it and tuning it super low is doing me fine for now. Drive mostly in Texas.

I am fairly new to detectors...I just purchased a C8 Corvette so figured it was time to invest in a detector. I am pretty much convinced the Max 360 is the way to go. My question is...I know the difference between the 360 and the 360C is wifi, but, what does wifi do for me...is it a necessary thing to have or is the 360 good enough for my needs?
Let me know how you feel about this. I am cashed out after this auto purchase for a bit so not wanting to break the bank so to speak but I don't want anything cheap quality-wise either. I want the best for my higher dollar value. As I stated, I am thinking of going with one of the Max 360 models...seems like they are top-shelf items, so...

If you don’t have wifi in your car, get the original 360. geni.us/Max360 The updates are done via your computer instead of over the air. The cloud stuff also works with the phone app instead of WiFi too. It’s a nice way to save a little cash if you want a Max series detector.

It comes with lots of perks though to, like a 5 year warranty on the display, 2 year warranty on the detector itself and a 2 year ticket free warranty as well. I trust your opinion on everything when it comes to radar detectors, so if you say it’s junk or just a gimmick and it performs poorly in your testing, I surely won’t buy into it!! I'm at 7:14 in vid. I think you are in a radar reflecting tunnel of buildings with those speed signs, at least the first one, so the R7 is probably picking up signal from the side. I bet speed signs out on a country road would act more like your police radar out on that country road. Not really comparing apples to apples because environment is so much different.
