The time my sibling and I made no less than four trips to the same Walmart on the same day because we kept getting the measurements wrong for blinds in the bathroom will attest to the importance of a tape measure 😅. Sad part is, I looked at the tape measure before we moved out from living with our mom, said to myself, "I'm going to put this with other important items because I'm sure we'll need this," and then the dang thing did a disappearing act anyways 😂.
I think my brother finally had enough and just bought us a new one. I'm not sure if we ever found the original.

Thank you for these good tips. As temporary renters, hanging artwork is one of the most terrifying things. For some reason we never get it right the first time or make a ridiculously large hole in the wall. We don't have touch up paint here, which is so annoying, even for everyday scuffs, etc. Also, Kiva, you're going to need to become a jack of all trades and give us a makeup tutorial. You look flawless and natural.
Just use Command hooks or stripes😃
@@passionfruitfruit I know the strips are supposed to be great, but I have a hard time trusting them. We've had a bad experience with them taking off a big chunk of paint - even when done correctly. We do use them on tile or any surface they can't harm. Knowing about the heavy weight hooks might come in handy.

I figured you could just download an app to use as a level, but is there a setting in phones that offers this without an app? Kiva kinda brushed past explaining that 😅

Those 3M Claws are the best! My husband and I used them when we first moved into our current house almost two years ago. He was very reluctant at first because you didn’t need to worry about finding a stud to hang heavy weight art. But, they do work as advertised and we even hung a 50 pound mirror with the Claw

So many great tips! I didn't know about the 57" rule. I needed the tape/toothpaste hack last week when I was struggling 😂😂😂. I use Ooks but I'm going to try the 3M hook. TFS. BTW the color of that blazer looks great on you!

Remember to only hang lite weight items over head of bed, unless you attach it really good if you live where earthquakes might happen. My brother had an iron horse above his bed, luckily he rolled off the bed when the shaking started, that horse fell and landed in the middle of his pillow. My sisters friend was pregnant and had a plaster wall hanging over her bed. Her husband laid on top of her and that large piece fell on him and scrapped his back.

I just bought a painting and it came with a claw hanger with no instructions. We had never seen one before and didn’t even know what to call it when I googled it, so we didn’t use it. Jeepers. I want 3M claw hangers for curtain rods. I was thinking about getting new drapes and raising the curtain rods that last foot and I am not adept balanced at the top of a ladder nine feet in the air. If I could hang curtain rods without having to drill holes and drive screws I'd do it instead of just thinking about it.
Great tips! After seeing the 57" thing I measured all of my wall art and I was surprised to see that the middle of every large piece I hung was 57"! Who knew??

One more, don’t hang a small piece of art in a large area. Seeing an 8x10” photo on a large wall area makes it look lost.
I don't want to break my phone so I use only real tools. A professional grade large level can be found for like 10 to 20 bucks at Home Depot, Harbor Freight and other stores.
I am used to hang things with all sorts of techniques and materials but I am always looking for innovations that make hanging easier, and those claws seem interesting.

Since this video is on the subject of hanging things, though, I've had an issue with a painting for now over two years and haven't been sure how to handle it. My mom made a painting that she hated, but I loved, so I took it. It's kind of large, situated on something like a 3ft by 4 or 5 foot canvas. But...the canvas is bent. Because of this, it doesn't stay on the wall when I use 3M strips. I'm tired of having heart attacks each time it falls, lol.
I was thinking of carefully pulling the staples out and framing it somehow. Have you ever heard of someone doing this? Or...given your grandmother is an artist, have you ever heard of a method to straighten out the wooden backing of a canvas?
What is the best placement for hanging 2 pieces of artwork? Side by side or stagger one a little lower? I don’t want to mess up 😅 Loved all of the tips!
Side by side is the usual but staggered is fine as well. Whatever you like best.

What can I use to hang art on old plaster walls?
Toggle bolts, molly bolts, anything metal. Plastic anchors don't work that great.

Just buy a $5 level at Lowes. The level on my phone has let me down quite a bit.
I completely agree. You can buy a level for a very reasonable price. I have tons of art work in my house so there is a level hidden in almost every room since, unless pictures are hung with double d rings they will shift periodically

Exactly you can get a professional grade level at any hardware store, saving your phone from breaking and having accurate measurements.
I have a bench seat with a wall behind it. Should I hang art and hopefully someone doesn't bang their head, or should I just go with sconces and forget the art?
Put it at a level where the bottom part is a little over the height of someone's head sitting down or at shoulder's height, but it should a large piece that fits at least half the width of the wall. People subconsciously will avoid leaning on it if you hang it like that.
Smaller pieces should go above the head a few inches.
