  • In a dramatic turn of events at the Paris 2024 Olympics, World Record holder Tobi Amusan failed to reach the finals of the women’s 100m hurdles. The 27-year-old Nigerian athlete, who carried the nation’s hopes for a medal, finished third in her semifinal heat with a time of 12.55 seconds, falling short of qualifying for the final.
Amusan, the reigning 100m Hurdles World Champion, had earlier shown promise by winning her heat with a time of 12.49 seconds, but she couldn’t replicate that performance in the semifinal. Her exit marks a significant blow to Nigeria’s chances at the Olympics, especially with the disqualification of the men’s 4x400m relay team due to lane infringement.
Despite valiant efforts by Team Nigeria, the country may finish the Paris Olympics without a single medal. Watch the video for a detailed analysis of Nigeria’s performance and what this means for the future of Nigerian athletics.

Tobi Amusan should have been in the Final of the Women's 100m Hurdles. In Heat 3 of the Semifinals, the French runner Cyrena Samba-Mayela stumbled over her last hurdle and stepped out of her lane nearing the finish line and should have been disqualified, but the French officials overlooked it, but they were vigilant and observant to notice the same infringement done by Nigeria in the 1st Semifinal of the Men's 4 x 400m relay and disqualify them

Amusan's failure to reach the final of her favourite sport is unfortunate. At 27, she needs to mentor a successor. I hope she has investments that would sustain her living standard post-sports? The sports ministry should sponsor her to a coaching course and employ her services after a successful completion of the course. This is the best way to thank her for being a good sports ambassador of the country as well as the best way to motivate the budding sports men and women in the country.

It’s a shame. I am sure Tobi came 3rd because she was saving her energy for the finals. Unfortunately it back fired. No doubt, she is the best hurdler in the world right now. Just watching her run one can see she has the best technique and scales the hurdles much more naturally than any hurdler in the Olympics. It’s just so unfortunate for her.

@@ikennatheophilus6718 So God is now in sports competition abi?. It's God that makes Chinese athletes defeat Israelite, or a Saudi boxer beat up an American Christian boxer? These slave and colonial masters really did a number on our thinking abilities with the useless educational curriculum we gullibly accepted for then. SMH
