I was a metal/hard rock fan in the 80's ... the first concert I ever went to was the Scorpions Savage Amusement tour in 1988. Fun fact .... the Scorpions are one of the loudest bands to play live. I was third row just a little left of center ... Several people have had that job in the Scorps but in 1979 they added a 21yr old phenom on guitar named Matthias Jabs and the quality of their records improved dramatically. You truly need to do "Winds of Change" by The Scorpions. It's about the Berlin Wall coming down. I was just out of high school when that happened....I saw it first hand, and this song captures the feeling of hope that swept the world that day. I cry everytime I hear it. Actually, it wasn't about the wall coming down. It was about when they had the first big rock show in Moscow, the Moscow Music Peace Festival. It starts with him walking down the street in Moscow. It's his hope that glasnost was going to actually be a thing. The wall just happened to come down later in the year, totally out of the blue...lol.

I grew up in the 70’s and I was not ignorant of the past greats like Chuck Berry, Little Richard and all the greats. I knew the history of rock. Today’s youth have NO CLUE about music history. While I do agree there is a lot of music today that is trash and that is mostly under the pop and rap sub genre’s there is some modern or current music that I throughly enjoy but that is my opinion. "Blackout". "Winds of Change". Michael Schenker used to be the guitarist for Scorpions but went off and joined the band UFO, then went solo with Michael Schenker Group. Those groups are all in the hard rock genre. UFO did a song "Love to Love" that is one of the best rock ballads ever. Also give MSG's ballad "Desert Song" a listen.

Michael's brother Rudolph Schenker was the founding member and longest continuous member of the Scorpion's. Michael played from 1970 to 1973 then left for UFO. UFO poached him from the Scorpions who were their opening band. Returned in late 1978 and contributed in the studio to the Lovedrive album. Matthias Jabs had joined the band in his absence giving them a three guitarist lineup. He left again in 1979 during the tour. He was not part of the most successful years of the Scorpions. He has trashed his brother Rudolph and the Scorpions repeatedly for not giving him enough credit on the Lovedrive album.

When I was a kid I didn't have a favorite music style -- until 9th grade when I heard this song playing in the school gym in P.E. class...it gave me goosebumps from music for the first time in my life up until that point, and my journey into hard rock & heavy metal had begun (it STILL gives me goosebumps, 40 years later). Everything about it: the singing, the melody, the power, the changeups, the lyrics, and of course that gorgeous, screaming guitar soloing, holy smokes. They have a wide spectrum of material, something for everyone, the rare band which accomplished that to great success. This remains my favorite tune of theirs, hands down. Whenever I fell in love with a woman, this song said everything in my heart from the passion side.

Later that night he told us he was playing the guitar with a band...and they were practising with some awsome dudes who played thier socks off. Name of the band was Scorpions. We went wild as we had heard some of thier early songs before we drove from Denmark. We had some fun days with this guy until he returned to Germany on his BMW bike. Cool dude. When we got home we started to listen more to Scorpions....so a shout out to Michael for making us even more aware of this cool band.

The Scorpions r the lonest-running rock band from Germany...the German Rolling Stones. They built their global fanbase by touring non-stop.
Formed in 1965 in Hannover, but debuting their 1st album in 1972 w/ guitarist brothers Rudolf & Michael Schenker and lead vocalist Klaus Meine. Michael Schenker quit in 1973 to join UK rockers UFO... Meine & Rudolf Schenker kept Scorpions going w/ different members. Success came in 1978 in Japan, then 1979 in the USA. This single was a huge hit from 1982. Scorpions got a huge female fanbase w/ their ballads and male fans w/ their rock anthems & dominated the 80's and early 90's.
Today, the band is still going w/ Klaus & Rudolf 70+ yrs old, lead guitarist Matthias Jabs at 65. 7

just to address the guitar solos in this song: they are performed by founding member Rudolph Shenker and lead guitar (the third they would have in the band) Matias Jabs. Notice the twin note harmony played thru-out the song and beautifully in the solo. The Scorpions are STILL performing with two original members, Singer Klaus and rhythm guitarist Rudy. Thats saying something since the first recording of the band was in 1969!!!!! Over 50 years of doing this! I was first introduced to this band in juvie' detention in 1980 where I was locked up with some very bad people. The video in a prison, and the scary image (to a kid of 11) of Rudy with forks in his eyes (the cover art of the album is also this image) while screaming was enough to make Me a fan, the song was their American break-thru, but was forgotten a few years later by the success of Rock You Like A Hurricane and that was eclipsed by Winds Of Change. This band has always had phenom' lead guitar players since the earliest recordings, check out the earliest tracks with hippy/hard rocker new age dude Uli Roth trading licks with Rudy. Then when Uli left, Rudys brother came in to play lead, Micheal Shenker, but He left soon to form his own bands, UFO, and MSG. Matias came after them and I think still might play with them now....not sure. The Scorpions brought Me thru a dark period of My childhood and I am greatful. Check out the early 80's period rockers The Zoo and Still Loving You....perfect songs in My opinion.

Commercial successful in the US, because they are singing in English and have of course a few very good songs.
But it doesn't mean that they are the best German rock band, maybe for your opinion and maybe in USA.
The question is, what kind of rock music there is a difference between the styles. The Scorpions are more powerful and more hard rock, but we have a lot more successful bands.
Die Ärzte, Die Toten Hosen, Beatsteaks, Sportfreunde Stiller, Madsen, Jennifer Rostock, Revolverheld, Ton Steine Scherben, Pur, Torfrock, Puhdys, Karat, Silly, City, Bosse.
This are all good German rock bands, the difference is, they don't want to sing in English, the have the self-confidence to create music in their own language and sorry don't care about the USA, like Rammstein.
