- In this video, I react for the first time to Ronnie James Dio performing “Holy Diver”. I analyze his amazing performance, explain and demonstrate his vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. Dio is an absolute legend of metal music, a true pioneer with a legacy. I am so excited to hear his other bands like Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell or Elf. I am aware they are absolute references in the genre. I am so happy I got to share my analysis and reaction to this with you

If there's someone on YT who has a better combination of knowledge, talent, personality and sense of humor than this lovely lady, I haven't come across them.
Not just on youtube;)
@@mauijttewaal II 100% believe that. I just don't go to other social media sites.
She's very good,, but I also like ( the charismatic voice).
@@alexrossi4464that’s who I was going to mention along with Beth roars.

Please you must to see Ronnie live! I recommend "Heaven and hell", "Last in line", "Children of the sea", "Stargazer", "Mistreaded" "Gates of Babilon" or "Don't talk to strangers" all amazing songs and Dio is best live!
Couldn't agree more he's the GOAT would add Tarot awomqn to the list if only for the beautiful opening. And from the Dio era the live version of Don't Talk to Strangers is fantastic
And youll get the explanation about the “devil horns”
Don't forget "Last in Line" (says alot about warning of evil)😇❤🎵🤙
Last in line ! my favorite!
I love Sign of the Southern Cross but "Sing me a song, you're a singer..." can't be beaten, it gives me chills every time.
Dio solo is fantastic, but in my opinion his work with Ritchie Blackmore in Rainbow is truly magical. Songs like stargazer, Catch the Rainbow, Gates of Babylon , i love it!
Mistreated Live in Munich '77; best performance by RJD IMO.
I love catch the rainbow
Gates of Babylon is soooo good
Rainbow's "Stargazer" is a must
Rainbow > Black Sabbath> Dio solo
Lolli, you are THE MOST entertaining vocal analyst out there! I truly mean it. I learn and laugh and re-live hearing these songs for the first time through you. Can't wait to hear you record this kind of hard rock and metal. I hear you doing this kind of music. Love your channel.......
Dio's voice...is a hug for the soul. Now you need, Heaven and Hell, The Last In Line, Don't Talk to Strangers, and Rainbow in the Dark. Fun fact: Ronnie started his career singing '50's songs!
should one of Love is all!
Out of all of the vocal coach reactors on CZcams, you've always sound the most accurate when you vocally re-create parts! 🤘
If you loved that, you're going to absolutely love his work with Black Sabbath (and before that, Rainbow). "Holy Diver" as is would be considered an absolute classic of the Rock albums of the era, Heavy Metal or otherwise.
Dio WAS Black Sabbath.
I can’t even listen to the albums with Ozzy…but Dio.
He even made Dehumanizer good.
"rectangle Ronnie". You are a genius. And you're so fun, entertaining, educational. You really know your sh*t. And I love it when you sing. God bless.
Damn girl, you've got all the talent. What a satisfying world you must live in! Yeah, that's assuming a lot I know, but I would be very happy living in your world, just watching you perform you magic, whether it's on stage or in production. Very amazing.
RIP Ronnie James Dio
An absolute legend
I always loved listening to Dio, from solo work to his work with Black Sabbath after replacing Ozzy, to Rainbow and even showing up along side Jack Black with Tenacious D
Loved all his songs, especially last in line and rainbow in the dark.
I would love to tell You that Ronnie James Dio was one of the best shows that I have Ever seen. 1998, Cincinnati Ohio. The band did not have another gig for 2 days. The 2 and a half hour show turned into a 4 and a half hour show! Dio was Unreal! So Amazing! Keep up the great work! ❤
There is Ronnie James Dio and then there is everyone else! R.I.P. \m/ \m/
Love your reactions and your editing is next level!! ❤
Rainbow eyes is possibly one of the most beautiful things ever heard by human ears. It could possibly make you cry. He has such a beautiful voice
i just want to say i really appreciate the editing. very few reaction channels come close.
I could listen to your voice all day..both talking and singing...
Ronnie James- Great Voice of Rock Music! From Black Sabbath to Rainbow and his solo career. Rest In Peace. ❤
Oh, this was a fun review, you're an absolute BLAST to watch reacting to Dio. You've got to do more Dio, as others have said, in groups like Rainbow and Black Sabbath. I'd suggest doing his live performances. Dio had an incredible metal voice, many would say the greatest metal voice of all time (I'd agree with it) Rainbow-Stargazer, Rainbow-Gates of Babylon, and some of his time in Black Sabbath.
I miss the 80's so much, I love this, BUT IN HIGH SCHOOL, I worshipped DIO 😂
this is one of those songs that actually gets better every time you listen to it...personally im in the thousands and its still getting better.
A delightful reaction, as ever - and it's amusing to see young reactors discovering music that was just part of the landscape for my generation. My first awareness of Dio was unfavourable - as a firm Ozzy fan I saw Dio as the usurper of Ozzy's place in Black Sabbath (silly, of course, Ozzy had made himself unfit to be in a band, it wasn't Dio's fault!) and it was a few years before I gave him the attention he so clearly deserves. For a younger age-group, Dio was THE front man of BS, while Ozzy had become a bit obscure for a while.
Just recently I found a very respectful and convincing cover of Holy Diver, by Burning Witches - well worth a watch/listen.
Bless you, Fairy Sister, keep on doing what you do, we love it.
that was FUN!!! I LOVE your increased (I think) commentary on the instrumentals lately💜
Your content provides a much needed respite from almost literally everything else, filling my heart with just enough joy to make it to the next one.
some of the live versions are absolutely unreal btw
The look on your face when the song faded away? That's how it is whenever a Dio song ends. 😦
HOly Div-AH!! One of my favourite Dio songs, what a blast from the past.
Another top notch reaction/analysis.
I love your humour and editing. The editing is perfectly balanced imo. Do you edit your videos yourself??
if she heared the orginal now i really would love to see her reaction to the Cover of Liliac - Holy diver.
He will forever be known as Rectangle Ronnie from this day forth!
Saw Dio solo and with Black Sabbath.
Try - Don’t Talk to Strangers
Die Young from Black Sabbath.
Love your reactions and vibe!
This is the first time I’ve heard this and instantly I realised that this must be where so much of jack black’s inspiration came from. You just know he was rocking out to this as a boy in his room. He certainly brought this theatrical rock genre back to life.
Amazing breakdown of the track and the vocals
Dio and Meatloaf were heavy influences on JB.
This was so much fun, and lots of great vocal demos in this one!
Haven't heard this song for like 30 years .... Happy Valentines day, love. Keep up the extraordinarily good work!
Love when this song starts people never hearing it before...jumps...it's iconic.
You must, must, MUST hear Liliac's cover of this... ps another great reaction, I love your depth of understanding of vocal techniques!!!
Fun to see Dio blow another reactor's mind like he did mine when I was a kid. Legendary.
Ronnie work in Elf is really informative for understand his voice, I think. It wasn't over produced, and the songs were simple, but the voice is made of awesome.
Never more, Streetwalker, and Wonderworld are great songs.
@@jalkabre5904 not to mention he did a (great!) War Pigs cover with elf yeeears before he got to do them "properly" 🙂
@@cango5679Yes he did
Thanks so much for another Master Class, Lolli!!🤘.
And happy valentines day!!❤🌹
The hiss was supposed to be a "wind effect" and was produced by using a car tyre inner tube according to Ronnie.
Really, I just thought it was normal electronic hiss, like the thought of them lugging a tube into a studio
@@tz6414 In an interview Dio gave after the launch of Holy Diver he mentioned the sound and how it was obtained. How they reproduced it live subsequently though, might have been different... Pretty sure they didn't have the inner tube on stage when I saw the band! 😁
You’ve really inspired me to improve my singing lately. I never understood how to approach singing as a learned skill. I appreciate your content and hope you enjoy the holiday today!
Love your break down you have a new fan from Australia might be ancient but love greatness you ❤❤
Try DIO - Heaven And Hell (Live 1986), Please.
Ronnie James is the man. No one better, few to match.
His attempt to cover Led Zeppelin when he was in Elf was awful, though.
Next ya gotta check out Liliac covering Dio. It's one thing hearing Dio sounding like Dio, it's something else entirely hearing a (then) 16 year old girl sounding like Dio reincarnate.
Ronnie was at his peak when he sang with Rainbow. Songs like "Stargazer" and "Catch the Rainbow" are must listens. Plus listening to Rainbow live (1977 Munich concert) takes to another level, the songs"Misteated", "Catch the Rainbow", and "Man on the Silver Mountain" are fantastic.
Yet he was also still absolutely on form on that last Heaven & Hell tour.
I would actually love to hear you singing more of this! You captured Dio really well. 🤘
You know when you completely zone out and someone asks what you're thinking about? Those outtakes pretty much sum up what my brain is up to in times like those almost scarily well.
That's the first time I've seen analysis on Holy Diver's intro notes LOL
Dio was such an amazing vocalist and from all the interviews I had seen from different people he was an all-around good person. HE would go out of his way for his fans. It is mind blowing that he had very little vocal training. One of his best vocal performances was the song Mistreated by Rainbow, the live version from 1977 in Munich.🤘
Dio all ways leaves you wanting more, Did see him 2 times, out of the hundreds of shows i have seen those 2 shows were the best i have ever seen!
Ronnie died 14 years ago . great voice
Love your channel, my favorite reaction channel on YT! As a musician I love watching your videos. Keep'em coming!
The best of all time and that's an understatement and a good soul of a man too, every song he sang is better than the other. Rest in peace Dio.🤘
Thanks a lot for these interesting informations about one of my favorite songs! Love your explanations and your knowledge!
Please check out Triumph - Lay it on the line
I really think you’ll absolutely love the wild vocals!
Yes! Rick Emmett FTW!
Lovely as always! Check out Stargazer with Rainbow
If you haven't heard ronnie james dio you've been under a rock His first band was called elf second band he was in call rainbow.Third band black sabbath fourth band DIO Then back to Black Sabbath for another album. Then back to his own band everything he did with all of them was incredible rest in peace.Ronnie I'll miss you always
What is going on in Fairy Voice Mother's life? She is just glowing and full of happy energy in this video, even more than usual!
I'm sure she's in love
The tribute cover of this song by Killswitch is really good considering the massive stylistic change. Definitely a work of love
I love watching your analysis'. The way entertaining way you convey your genius is first rate!
Also, not to be too weird, but your smile is great.
Looking forward to the next vocal (and musical and symbolic and everything else) analysis.
So Dio randomly brought me to your channel, but really enjoyed your reaction, I am hooked on your hilarious banter and energy. You got this old rocker subscribed. Dio was a perfectionist, and you're right his musical arrangement was as tight as a ducks arse. Can I suggest you have a listen/react to Steel Heart, either She's Gone or I'll Never Let You Go. For sheer insane male vocal range no one can come near their singer Mili.
Ever since seeing the premier of this, I've had Holy Diver stuck in my head. It's that riff.
I do love some Ronnie James Dio R.I.P. He was so unique and spectacular.
Excellent reaction and analysis, i really loved it
I really like to listen to your dio tribute album now😊
Love learning and enjoying with you 😊
I saw this concert live.. he sounds perfect.. it was a small venue and the audience was smoking so much weed that I couldn't see the stage.. it was just a cloud of colors and sound.. great concert !
I kept expecting them to break into Eye of the Tiger. Never noticed how similar they are until this.
He was a big fan of opera and listened to it mostly
Oh my, she's tumbled into the Dio zone...
Enjoy the ride, dear!
I wait with Happiest anticipation.
Cheers

🤘👹🤘
Love your videos and analysis. Would you consider checking out something from Messiah Marcolin? I'd recommend Samarithan from Candlemass or his live perfomance of Kali Yuga with Therion. I've not seen many reactions to him and I would love to hear your opinion of his vocals.
Seen Ronnie twice in concert.
Very high on my list of the best concerts ever.
You are the lovely flibbertigibbet of the vocal coaching - CZcams reacting - song analysing world.
(I mean that in a nicest possible way, I just really like using the word flibbertigibbet!)
I love RJD!!!! Another top rock/metal vocal performance you should check out is “ Still Loving You” by the Scorpions. Klaus’s voice is perfection. One of the greatest power ballads of all time, IMHO
Another great vid, you are consistent-C wonderful to learn from :D
Wow. Listened to this song - true masterpiece - much than 1000 times in 40 years. I didn't expected that someone could learn me something new about Holy Diver. But you did it!!! Thank you so much, Lolli
Oh, Oh, Oh....someone suggested Kickapoo, and I AGREE!!! It would give you a chance to review Jack Black, Meatloaf, and Dio all in one segment.
Hey I was just listening to Dio the other day! What a coincidence that you cover one of his best songs.
Ronnie James Dio will forever be the god of rock with all others being pretenders to the throne of the king of vocal mastery!
Like a Rainbow in the Dark is probably my favorite song with Dio on it, but Holy Diver definitely hits every time!
Hearing you replicate his vocal tones, i find amusing. Most of these kinds of channels don't bother to try and explain through example.
There are so many great things about this song, from his voice in general, energy, guitar... One thing that never stopped baffling me are the drums.
Hm, is kinda minimal effort sounding?
I'm almost positive you've watched Heart before. If you haven't, please watch "Barracuda" (1977) and / or "Crazy on You - The Midnight Special". I think the singing is the best I've ever heard. By any rock singer ! Thank you Lolli.
Yes 'Barracuda' from 1977 is simply great!
I always love hearing your lessons.. thank you. This one touched my heart.
For the next one I will love you to analyze Dream theather the spirit carries on live metropolis part two I love this song and I hope you too.
My mom knew that drop was coming after those two minutes of sea and whale noises, so when she introduced the song to me, the volume was at max. I felt it in my soul! XD
Rainbow In The Dark will always be my top favorite DIO song.
Your reaction / analysis videos are always such a joy. Thank you.
I'd love to see you react to and analyse Scardust. Try "Concrete Cages", a collaboration they did with Patty Gurdy. When is music ever *not* made better by the inclusion of a hurdy-gurdy?
RIP DIO
Killswitch Engage cover of this song was also really good
you would LOVE his work on stargazer i think, my favorite song of his ❤
ALways always always more Dio. He deserves to be remebered forever
happy valentine's day lolli. im sure you will love dio's appearance in "kickapoo", by tenacious d (jack black), the other guest artist in that track is "meatloaf". the movie clip from "pick of destiny" is under 4.5 min.. while dio did solo stuff and was in rainbow etc, im most familiar with his work in "black sabbath", my favorite band, original lead singer ozzy osbourne. sharon osbourne aptly summed up the difference between sabbath with ozzy and dio (although she's biased obviously, nonetheless i agree with her assessment) she said "dio is a great rock opera singer, ozzy is a better blues singer". i hope to see you react to sabbath with both of these 2 singers , suggesting "symptom of the universe" with ozzy and "heaven and hell" with dio. (studio versions recommended, especially on "symptom of the universe".)
Yours is my absolut favorite reaction channel! Your ability to notice very little details amazes me and your surgency enterains so well!
I love that you do a lot of rock and metal reactions cause thats my vibe! Haven't seen you listening to post metal/sludge though. And I feel like that is a genre you might enjoy! CULT OF LUNA is my all time fav sludge band. They're also so great live!
If you're interested I recommend "Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas - MARINER - Live at De Kreun" where they played a concert with their guest vocalist, the incredible singer Julie Christmas.
Lolli, as I know how you appreciate how singers approach their craft as they get older, I beseech you to give a react video to the last live video performance Ronnie gave before he left us, "Neon Knights" at Wacken. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised. 💜
Falling off the edge of the world, black sabbath, dio on vocals, doesn't get much better than that.
10/10 Editing :D
You should listen to *Rob Halford* in *Judas Priest* They have a very similar Rock/Metal sound. Especially on their *Killing Machine* album.
Rob's range was C#2 to C6, giving him a semitone short of 4 octaves. Although age diminished his ability over the years. He's 72 years old now.
This is gonna be fun! I would very much like you to hear James Rivera in HELSTAR sing ABOLISH THE SUN. Always enjoy your vocal analysis. :)
Listen to the studio version of Stargazer by Rainbow, his vocals are truly stunning. Live, watch him again with Rainbow in 1977 singing Mistreated.
I love Ronnie James Dio, all groups. However his work on Love Is All with the Butterfly Ball project is a track that always lifts my spirits. As Dio sang 'Long Live Rock n Roll!! Thank you for your video.
I'm a huge Dio fanboi. I love listening to folks who know the craft explain what it is that makes him so great.
It's corny but Dio saved my life. I was on the verge of suicide when my older brother came for a visit on a whim with a new record he just bought. I had already stolen my fathers revolver and had it in my room. My bro pops in, "hey man, new album by that guy you like sang with Rainbow. Check it out" and then "Stand Up and Shout" blasted over the speakers and we sat and listened to the whole thing. Me sitting in front of the stereo and him by the window smoking a joint. (Gen X kids, right?) and then at the end he left, leaving the record with me and then I put my father's gun where it belongs.
I doubled down on my martial arts training, went on to win national and world tournaments. So... I say again, Ronnie James Dio saved my life. Now I'm (old)years old. Got grandkids, retired. I'm overall happy.
To really hear Ronnie James Dio's voice, please watch a live video. His love for the the Renaissance era and the mythology, dragons and magic, is seen and heard here. The Drummer for RJD's career was Vinny Appice. I was lucky to have seen him, solo, several times. What a voice. He does not get the reconition I think he deserves in the hard rock/metal world. His voice and his showmanship onstage were outstanding. How he relates to the audience is magic. A friend met him a few times and he said he was the nicest most humble person he ever met. The world lost a man with a true gift when he passed.
One of the best songs ever made. Timeless classic
