How Much Fiber Do You Need To Eat? | Dr. Will Bulsiewicz Live Q&A

  • How much fiber should you eat each day? Only 5% of Americans are getting enough, leaving the other 95% at greater risk for developing serious health complications! They may possibly even be feeling cranky since there is a good chance they are backed up!
Dr. Will Bulsiewicz is back to clear up confusion and clean out your system as he joins “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll to reveal how much fiber you should be eating. More importantly, he’ll tell you how easy it is to get it!
Dr. Bulsiewicz is a practicing gastroenterologist and author of the bestselling book Fiber Fueled.
Chuck also opens The Doctor’s Mailbag to have Dr. B answer more questions about gut health:
    - Can dehydration cause constipation?
    - Can turmeric relieve constipation?
    - Why do apples make people poop?
    - Does non-organic produce harm gut bacteria?
    - Which foods contain natural probiotics?
    - And many more!
Have a question? Leave it in the comments or chat and we'll get to as many as we can.

A lot of fiber! Even though I‘m a veggie eater, my fiber intake wasn’t enough to regulate my bowl system.

Apples contain small amounts of sugar alcohols which can have a laxative effect because they draw out water into the colon. It's not usually a problem unless you eat alot of them or you have bacterial dysbiosis/IBS.
The only non-whole grain I'll eat is white rice (long grain or basmati), occasionally. Mostly because white rice stores forever (it has no fat, which is in the rice bran) and it's much lower in arsenic. If you can get brown rice from California, that's also a decent choice.
I usually soak my beans for a few hours, and it really helps reduce gas and just made the beans softer to eat. This also works with wheat berries and barley.

Fiber is what the gut needs to create the right short chained amino acids for us to achieve the correct balance for our systems. It is not just a broom that cleans us out. That is the reason fiber supplements aren’t good. they help clean the system, but do not nourish like obtaining fiber from plant sources.

23:16 Dr B. - We DO know that chemical additives in any form (fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides) not only stress out the plants on which they are used, but they also kill all of the microbiology vitally important within a healthy soil food web. Our agricultural ways have managed to make deserts out of vast areas of land. It's all connected. Mono cropping and spraying oil-based fertilizers and other chemicals onto the crops take away from the plants ability to store, let alone supply the nutrients they naturally exude to the soil microbiome - plants feed the microbiota and in exchange gain the nutrients they need to grow. (a symbiotic relationship) Technically we should be leaving piles of biomass on the soil to re-build it. Without the microbiome, soil turns to dirt, devoid of life and susceptible to flooding, erosion, higher temperatures, etc. Suggest checking out these soil food web informational videos: czcams.com/video/uAMniWJm2vo/video.html

Does adding salt water to cabbage kill the bacteria in the cabbage?

Nope. It's what you would also do to ferment the cabbage (creating sauerkraut)

I heard that some dangerous living organisms like tape warm is found in raw cabbage. Also will the salt water not harm the microbes because salt is used as presevative / delay the decay.
