1. Food additives 2. Artificial sweeteners 3. Dairy 4. White bread (yeast bread) 5. Processed meats. Very informative podcast and well worth the listen, as always.
Thank you.
Thank you for listing save time makes clearer
Thank you for your conclusion
I would add to that white pasta & white rice because all the nutrients have been removed and replaced with synthetic nutrients ( which the body doesn't asborb as efficiently as the natural nutrients that have been removed).
There's nothing wrong with including "artificial" sweeteners, white bread, and most food "additives" in your diet. What's important is CALORIES, and lots of fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans in your diet. If you eat a high fiber diet then some Splenda in your coffee and oatmeal is not going to mess up your gut 'biome". Sucralose is a hundred times sweeter than sugar so you only need a tiny amount. The studies that show effects on gut bacteria involve mice consuming mega amounts of Sucralose.
1. skittles
2. artificial sweeteners
3. dairy
4. white bread
5. processed meats
All sweets that contain lots of sugar are bad for you. No wonder there is so much of a problem with diabetes in children..
DR. B is such a treasure.
Some people will NOT change their eating habits even if it "destroys" their health!! There is a BIG difference in a "healthy diet than an unhealthy diet". Your body will let you know!!
May be too late then
Great show and very informative and full of interest,
Thanks Chuck and Doctor,
Bless ,
Great information to know! Love this podcast!
Very Informative with Great Questions too !!!👏👏👏👏👏👏💖
Love listening to Dr. B and Chuck. Always very informative.
Such amazing information. Can’t wait for 2023 and the dream team. Happy Holidays.
One of the things I like about these broadcasts is that doctors with different areas of expertise all arrive at the same consensus - eating a whole food plant based diet - even though they might disagree on some of the minor points. That shows me that they're all doing research and coming to conclusions without simply parroting the wfpb party line espoused by Dr. Barnard, Esselstyn, or any other one person.
I am so skeptical about avoiding diary. I mean cheese? Fermented food with plenty of vitamins, protein, good bacteria. No to mention kefir and yoghurt.
I could be wrong, but I think he was doing a broad sweep, and many people across the planet are quite allergic to dairy. Some are genetically built for dairy. I think we do need to test ourselves.
Thank you for this information-rich program!
Good stuff! Thanks!
Oh my😀 that was a good show! Thanks Dr. Bulsiewicz
Great podcast - wish I could persuade friends and family from eating processed meats!
All you can do is be a positive role model & tell them (or show them) how great your labs are. People don't like to be told what to do & they don't even want suggestions. (I know from my experiences!)
I love how excited Dr B gets about rye sourdough bread.
Yes..thank you for the additional info..its useful coz I'm always conscious for what I eat daily..love to eat most fresh vegetables. I'm avoiding frozen foods and fast food.
I choose always healthy food to eat. Health is WEALTH ❤️
Frozen veggies are fine
Thanks a million for this information.
Great information
I love you guys! Tkank you for all informations doktor B.
Best wishes from Poland :)
I'm happy I came across your site I only wished I could found it sooner thank you windsor ontario Canada
wow, when i hear someone say they have to discard some of their sourdough starter!! 🙄...been making this bread for years!!!!! i never discard anything!! i have a jar in the fridge (just a small jar)...when i make my bread, i take it out 2 hrs before i am to make my bread...i feed it 3 tbsp of flour and within that two hours, its doubled and ready to go!!! , then i use most of it (only have like 1/2 inch left in jar) and i will now refeed it (3 more tbsp) and put it back in fridge!!! it will stay in fridge for like a month sometimes )i'm not a big bread consumer, and it's always..ready to go when i'm ready to make it! never, ever have i discarded!! that's so silly to me!!!😄
God Bless you Guys 🙏Greetings fr Montreal. ❤
All I crave these days is rye bread, ideally turned into a sandwich with tempeh, spinach, sun-dried tomato pesto, red onion, tomato and pepper.... Thanks guys, now I am hungry 😊
Thank you for this wonderful conversation. Can’t stress enough the harms in our food system. Thank you for the sandwich suggestion. After listening, I marinated and baked some tempeh using a Rip Esselstyn recipe. No tomato or sourdough in the house so I made a tempeh bacon, lettuce, red onion, and avocado sandwich on Dave’s Killer Powerseed bread. So delicious and filling! 🙏🏼 😋
Thanks on your advice
Mmmmm tempeh.....
😊
Mmmm Daves Killer bread. Good stuff
Would you please tell me what Rip Esselstyn is & how do you use it?
Thank you ❤
Thanks Chuck and Dr B! Writing to you from Australia. I converted to a plant-based diet more than 10 years ago and the more I continue, the more I'm convinced it's the best way to go. Dr B, I was blown out by some of your podcasts and love your Fiber Fueled cookbook! Great info and presentation as well as recipes!
Where did you get the cookbook i am in Geelong Victoria...
I do not shop on Amazon.
How much was the book in Australian dollars please...

Thank you so much to mention about Kefir I will plan to study how to make from Coconut Milk I so glad to hear this subject is very helpful because my husband heal from Cancer and we still use Kefir not every day, I make my own Kimchi and Fermented veggies thank you for plants based
I drink goat kefir milk. You could probably do kimchi or fermented vegetables.
@@face1647, just don't drink animal secretions!
@@jgrysiak6566 I don't now. It did get rid of my acid reflux. I don't drink it anymore. I am whole food plant based now.
What day of the week and time of day do u go live ? Love ur podcast❤
Sourdough bread my favorite but I need to have butter or peanut butter. What kind of butter do I need to get. Thanks 👍
Hi guys!! Love the vid. I have a friend with stage IV CLL. I’ve not heard of any outcomes using WFPB diet on this particular disease. Can you give any advice? Please and thank you ❤️
I used to eat bacon tempeh in the past until I noticed that three strips have 800mg of sodium! One package goes over 1500mg of sodium. These days I just eat tempeh without salt and cooked in water to limit the advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs). The sandwich is definitely delicious, some tepmeh with tomato and greens with some avocado, fantastic.
Can you get bacon tempeh at the grocery store? Where would one find it in the grocery store
@@susankovach8927 In the Pacific Northwest I can find the Lightlife brand "Smokey Tempeh Strips". You can generally find them with the veggie meats, if your grocery store separates those things. Usually it's somewhere not too far from the refrigerated produce section. Sometimes though they put it in with the actual meats, ew :)
@@AnHourOfWolves Thank you for answering. I'll look for it. I've been wanting to get bacon bits for bland gluten free lentle soup. Instead I hope to try that. If I can
@@susankovach8927 why would you want something loaded with salt
Keifer is full of sugàr the store bought.
U could marinate tempeh in hickory smoke & apple cider vinegar.
How dose medication affect the gut? What do I need to do to counteract this.
Chuck's face @ 18:31 when he said "I got my wife a pizza oven for her birthday" 🤣🤣🤣
Continuous bread dough, microwave oven and toaster oven. I make sourdough "buns" at least every other day. Put some dough in bowl or on a plate. Nuke for 2 minutes(varies with your oven). The bottom of the bun will have some moisture but that helps release it from the container. 5 minutes in toaster oven. Set temperature for crustiness.
For the continuous dough, I made the first batch with yeast. I ferment it in the refrigerator. Bake some buns(pizza, flatbread, focaccia, etc), but save some of the dough for the next batch. If you add the same proportions of flour and water, you'll maintain the same hydration. But I just add some water to the old dough. Stir till I get a slurry. Add some flour till I get the dough looking good. Back in the frig for the next time.
For something like a hamburger bun shape, a bowl with a flattish bottom should work. Experiment. I use to oil my "baking" dish but found out the steam will help release it. I found no need for special cookware but some silicone bread pans should work.
Looking forward to the WFPB Dream Team in January 2023!!! Thanks to you and the crew of the Exam Room Podcast!
Titanium dioxide, for anyone who’s wondering, is used as a whitening color agent in foods.
Yes, I’ve looked this up as well. A totally unnecessary additive, just to make food look pretty - also a common additive in supplements.
Great information, thank you
Oh man, I loved loved loved Skittles. I haven't ate them in years because I chose to treat my body better, but oh my grandchildren, they love them.
It’s merry Christmas here in Australia 🇦🇺
That’s messed up.
Always enjoy dr B. Renews my inspiration for healthier eating. I’m probably not going to give up my homemade kefir, but I largely avoid other dairy now.
Recipe for sour dough bread and for pizza?
I make water kefir...similar goodness no dairy required.👍
You can do exactly the same with plant based milks, I make our own soy kefir and it's delish
Checking in from Jamaica of the Caribbean
If dairy products have problems, what about yoghurt? What to replace it?
The problematic issues with casein are with the beta-casomorphin form in A1 (bovine) dairy that he cites and does not apply to A2 (non-bovine) cultured (yogurt, kefir) dairy sources which are highly beneficial and should be a regular staple in the diet.
Would kefir be a milk alternative?
What flour do you recommend for sourdough bread?
Hi there, wondering how do you support a microbiome after a colectomy secondary to Ulcerative Colitis
Hello 👋 👋
Is prunes a type of fermented food or good prebiotic?
BEEF BUTTER BACON EGGS SAVED MY LIFE. Lost 85 lbs in 6 months. Restored my eyesight back to 20/20. Reversed Type 2 Diabetes. A1C is now 5.4
Wow, thats amazing. Were they the only foods you had or did you include carbs too?
A lot of people have done similarly well on a carnivore diet as it is basically an elimination diet. I would not recommend for the long term though. Once your blood sugars, insulin levels etc have stabilised and you are back to your desired weight try adding back plant foods one by one so you know which ones are unhealthy for you. I would choose ones with least known problems first (e.g lectins, oxalates, phytates and any that many have been sprayed with toxins like glyphosate). And also keep sugary, starchy food as low as possible.
Reading the comments saved me loads of time - thank you.
cottage cheese is a fermented product. but can be made w lab enzymes or vinegar
Good afternoon gentlemen, "I love skittles!" Hate to give them up, but after listening to this, I have to, thanks so much for your healthful help 😍
Just peel them first. Bye, bye titanium oxide.
I have diverticulitis, some acid reflux, a constant metal, salty taste in mouth & will break out in mouth soreness once in a while & it last 2 days. Been told I have dry eyes & mouth. The taste never goes away & stronger at other times. Sometimes I can't get a full swallow, mouth is so dry. No problem with food going down so far. Enjoying food is less. Going to get tested for Sjogrens.
Good morning
How much titanium dioxide is an issue? Most medications have titanium dioxide in the ink for label on pill and maybe filler?
Good evening watching from philippines
I like dates/prunes even dried cranberries (w/o added sugar) in lieu of raisins. Seems like raisins lose more fiber from their native grape form than other whole fruits.
Most dried cranberries have oil added, so annoying.
I"m 73 and in my 3rd month of all whole food plant based. My go to breakfast every day is a bowl of old fashioned oatmeal, loaded with cinnamon, banana, berries, flax/chia/hemp seeds, plant milks (copying Dr. Esselstyn and family). But I've found I still miss that extra little touch of sweetness, so I recently switched from Splenda to Stevia (1/2-1 pckt per bowl). Appreciate these very informative interviews!
Get the drops..Pete..Packaged Stevia has a bad additive.
Godspeed
Dee
I use organic liquid stevia from Trader Joes. It's great.
Splenda makes me pee, it has chlorine
I listen to some other Health Drs.. I have MTHFR and gluten makes me extremely sick, stomach, vomiting, pure acid burning throat, itching skin, etc Feel like I'm on a roller coaster. I don't eat beans either bcuz of letting. Help?
Are whole turkey breast 😊in the deli considered “processed” meats?
I have a question for Dr B. I was diagnosed with IBS-C. Part of my bowel regimen is drinking an osmotic laxative 3x daily. Problem is, the drug company added Acelfame K to the mix. I cannot afford it's more expensive counterpart, and I absolutely need to take it or gut motility totally shuts down. What do I do?
I do make sourdough bread. It is a pain to keep it from collapsing. And to catch it just right. It is a such a pain that I commit 3 days to it.
I have to say, when making sourdough, dont feel the need to feed the starter every day. I make a loaf once a week and feed the starter once a week before making it. Once you get past the first week or two of feeding the starter daily, it can sit in the fridge no problem for a week or longer.
Hi I am from Cape Town, South Africa, thank you for an amazing info, could you please do something on diverticulitis and chronic diarrhoea. Thank you.
Diverticulitis is treated successfully by Colonoscopy Thru my experience. Good luck
Hi Wendy. Hope you're feeling better. We've had success with activated charcoal taken as a detox. Drink extra hot herbal teas when taking the charcoal. Bentonite clay is also helpful as well as raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Applying a poultice directly over your abdomen using cold pressed, organic, hexane free castor oil and applying heat over the poultice is a healer. You can get the details of how to use these remedies on the net. We've also had great results using the 17/7 fast - food free for 17 hours, enjoy food for 7 hours, it's very effective. Take care. Blessings
And after you get well, just be happy to eat healthy food more Vegs. Fruits. Less fried food , more water exercise. Simple living. Avoid stress so you could sleep well! His bless
God Bless!
Always good to hear from the Gut health doctor or the 'PM of BM'. 😂
I am watching from Ireland. What is tempay?
Would love to have the name of the restaurant in Ashville that serves the sandwich Dr. Bulsiewicz mentioned. Please share
Any recommendations for toddlers and the consumption of dairy? If they are consuming fat from other better sources,do they need cow's milk? I appreciate any advice
When you think about it nobody needs milk once they are weaned. That's how all mammals work. So with regard to toddlers no they don't need milk not cow's milk. It's kind of a modern thing to have to have milk for like cereal or whatever. But even like cereal isn't a very good food. It's pretty empty calories. It would seem to me that you could use alternatives like unsweetened almond, oat milk. I have an almond cow I can make my own oat milk, soy milk and almond milk. Almond milk has probably the most calcium.
Never heard of Skittles. Don't think we get it in Cape Town or I just have never heard anyone mention it. Like to see a picture of it.
What flour do you recommend
I'm nearly 80 when shopping most foods in supermarkets are unhealthy 😅 what can seniors sensibly do to aquire healthy food
Did I hear Dr. Greger say not to eat kimchi r/t esophageal and stomach cancer risk? Thank you!
Hello , can you help give insight on alopecia, stress. And cut contipation. Leaky gut. Connection..ty!
I need an answer to a basic question. Do we need to eat whether two or three times even though not hungry?
What Flour do you use, Dr Will
I love prunes and grapes with 3 cups of coffee and gallon of water.
Doesn't all probiotic microbes, all yeast and good bacteria die at over 115 degrees? Some say some live up to 135 degrees in sourdough breads/pizzas. But how can living bacteria survive a900 degree (or 450 degree ) oven heat ?
What kind of flour does dr. B use for his pizza?
What about date syrup for sweetener?
I’ve used that in limited form. It has fiber!!
Is honey a good sweetener?
I am following dr. sinclairs program and

Thank you Dr. Buisiewicz and Chuck! This is Claudia from MD. What are your thoughts of a plant based diet?
The F do u think? Damm!
This channel dedicates all of its time to plant based diet....
Just a recommendation, its good to add photos of the food because people watching this channel from 3rd world country might not know the food by name it's called. It's a good thing to add photos to help all the viewers
Are flaxseed capsules healthy.for constipation?
Both from cooked down grains very mild
Curious to his thoughts on A2 dairy in Goat and Sheep products.
What are Sciddles?
Happy you are mentioning the ultra processed foods- exactly what we teach in our online cooking program!!
Thank you both for this great video. What is interesting, Sourdough bread upsets my digestive tract and white bread is very soothing to my stomach! If I have pain, I go eat some pita (white) bread and all my pain disappears!! Can you explain that!!!!!!😅
Can we use Avacado oil for cooking
Sourdough!!! I started making my own with a rye starter this year and I love it but one thing that put me off was the daily discard. If you don't have the time to make something with the discard then it is SUCH A WASTE of good flour but then I found out that you don't need to discard any at all! You just make enough starter for your bake to include a little left over (scrapings) which you save it the fridge until you need to feed it up again. I generally bake 2 loaves every 4 or 5 days and the starter scrapings sit very happily in the fridge until I need it. You leave it unfed in the fridge for weeks! and it will be fine! here is a link to Culinary Exploration and a brief video on the scrapings method.

With regard to the cottage cheese question, my sons eats mountains of the stuff. I wonder if it is the same as the good stuff left behind in pasteurised sauerkraut that Dr. Bulsiewicz was talking about and in sourdough, even though it has been cooked. If the milk was fermented in the first place, although then pasteurised, some good stuff remains?
