About warming = sharp, since our orchestra never has a regular in-house oboist, I am always the one leading the tuning, I need to blow air to the clarinet first before tuning, because otherwise I'll be flatter than normal
Yes! Make sure that you are warming up the outside of the instrument first and not just immediately blowing hot air into a cold instrument too.
Swabbing while playing is new info for me
Great! It can really help if you ever find water/spit accumulating in the tone holes as you play.
My old E11 started cracking near the barrel
Probably due to moisture from my mouthpiece. And yes I don't always swab .big lesson..ps.my silver clarinet will never crack 😀
The top of that upper joint is also the most common place that cracks happen because there are a lot of tone holes up there and the hottest air goes through there.

Great advice Josh! I have a LeBlanc Esprit grenadilla clarinet that I purchased new in 2001. I do oil the bore about twice a year and I have been fortunate to not have any cracks. I've heard that older wooden clarinets that are made from wood that has been aged longer than those of late because of increased demand and the fact that grenadilla is endangered tend to crack less because the wood has been aged longer. Do you have any thoughts on this?
Definitely possible! Clarinets definitely have a bit higher chance of cracking when they are younger, but any clarinet can still crack at any time.

Microfiber
No exposed metal
Balloon shaped with a tail if possible (I'm not sure if I mentioned this one in the video or not)
Hi, Josh. Would like to know how often do you apply bore oil? I started playing my wood R13 3 months ago, and haven't used bore oil yet.

Not very often and not very much. Just put a few drops on a spare swab and run it through the instrument several times once every 6 months or so (the change of seasons is a good reminder). Personally I basically don’t oil it, and just let it get oiled when I bring it in for repair every other year or so.

@@QuickStartClarinet You can always just ask a few members/moderators to take care of that, and you just relax and continue making videos like usual. I can imagine cool video projects like submitting recordings for like auditioning to play duets or quartets. Or maybe analyzing students playing and correcting errors. That would be awesome!
