When I play with a conductor, I just follow whatever dynamics and tempo they conduct. I've never had a director say, "ignore the dynamics." It was always, "watch me!"
But of course, playing in a small group (like a quartet) or by yourself is a different story. It's always a good idea to look through music and see how it's supposed to go before trying to play it no matter what size group you're in.

That is great, as long as you have a conductor that is showing dynamics, and they are good dynamics!

@@QuickStartClarinet my husband jokes that all the Italian words on the music mean the same thing: "Watch the conductor!"

In band, we are given new sheet music and within about five minutes, we sight reed the pieces. After working on the pieces for a month or so, the band director would add dynamics that aren't written.

That is a good common one too, and while it isn't always difficult to add a dynamic here and there later it would be better if they were just there from the beginning!
There is also room for a whole other discussion on how and/or why to add unwritten dynamics, but maybe that will be for another video.

What clarinet is a good quality one to buy for a beginner/intermediate person? Thank you!

It absolutely depends on your budget, but a Yamaha YCL-255 or Backun Alpha are generally pretty good choices.
