have a Mac Studio M2 Max with 32GB of RAM, a MacBook 14 M1 Pro with 16GB of RAM, and an iMac M1 with 8GB of RAM. Beyond the differences in power given by the notable differences in CPU and GPU, I have always looked carefully at the use of RAM. I can say that it's absolutely true that 8GB on the Apple Silicon SOC is quite versatile, but it's equally true that 16GB is a different story. I can never take full advantage of the 32GB of the Mac Studio, but I absolutely can of the 16GB of the MacBook. The 8GB of the iMac, although excellently managed, brings it into the yellow pressure zone already with a few tabs in the browser and swapping on the SSD becomes inevitable. Additionally, when handling lots of high-resolution photos and exporting post-production, the 16GB of RAM makes a very big difference. I would say that the 8GB is now sufficient for general use and even for some more intense occasional use, but I fear that in 2-3 years they will begin to show their limits even in these use scenarios. 8GB IS NOT 16GB. 8GB IS NOT PRO. Greetings from Italy!
I tried to play a game using Whisky. It said it wad using 84gb of application memory even though I was using a 16gb ram MacBook pro

Great reviews. I have an M1 MacBook Air with 16GB, it's a beast however at times I experience playback issues when streaming, and small hiccups here and there. Night and day over windows still. I think for Professionals doing anything other than watching videos and sending emails, 32GB of ram is going to become the minimum amount of ram you should have on your MacBook in 5 years (absolute minimum)
bought it at the release. never looked back. best laptop I've ever owned
I was able to pick up a maxed out 16 inch m1 max macbook pro, this black friday brand new for 1600 dollars. Absolute steal, 64gb ram, 64 core gpu 1tb ssd for lowly 1600 dollars
Hey also I'd love to see you compare the M3 Max MBP to the Razer Blade 16, or even the MSI Titan. Mostly because the M2 Max and these beast PC laptops traded blows but there was no clear winner, and I'm interested to see just how much the M3 Max improves on the M2 Max in this regard.
Question should you chose m2 aur 15” 8gb ran 512gb or m3 14” 8gb ram 512gb for someone who mostly does work and business take like chrome and excel and all that and none of the coding, video editing and gaming.
Hey max would you recommend the base model for $1449?
My question is this a
Worthy upgrade from the base 13in mbp
This machine is for corporate IT departments that used to buy the 13” Touch Bar M1 MBP because it said Pro. Apple said that was their second best selling laptop after the MBA.
Yes, crazy advice by Max. This is aimed at a specific large market by Apple and why they had kept the MB Pro 13 before. A failure to understand what these are aimed for is disappointing.
So they would spend extra money on this computer vs an Air with literally the same specs why then? That’s the issue he talks about in this video as a whole. For the money it’s a waste of $$$ that’s the problem. People like you can’t seem to understand that and go out of your way to argue nitpick points that don’t matter at all to IT Pros as a whole when it comes to spending extra $$$ on this machine for no reason.
@@DJAJ101You said it best
@@qud3913 Thank you! Unfortunately Apple suck ups will never see it that way. Sad life they live defending a company like it's a family member but Apple couldn't care less if they died tomorrow. Some people's priorities are really messed up these days.
If so many corporate companies will buy this, they should have made it at least 12GB which would give the system 6.5GB of usable RAM after MacOS is loaded instead of 2.5GB.. Give the people a better experience in this "Pro" Machine.
My wife got the m3 14” with 16gb and 1tb. She’s a light-medium user that likes to keep laptops for a very long time. Her last one was a 2011 13” MacBook Pro. The air was the original consideration, but with it not getting upgraded to the m3, and the 14” still being smaller and thinner than her old 13”, we decided to go for the 14” because of the better display, having a fan, better speakers, ports, probably better battery than air, and that sweet promotion. Hopefully we made the right choice. Even though the m3 pro is close in price, it’s not worth that jump as she doesn’t need that graphics power or extra cpu power at the cost of battery life.
Just upgraded from a mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro to the M3 Max 16" overkill must definitely but I plan to have this laptop for another ten years. You made a great choice.. The MacBook Air with only 8gb of ram with no fans is not worth it.
I got the M3 with 16 gigs of ram. still a little cheaper than the M3 pro. i like that it has better battery life and i don’t need all the performance🤷♂️
I was thinking of getting this model too, you have any regrets? is the battery life that much better? is the performance drop off from the m3pro that much worse?
Never forget that Tim Cook is all about high profit margins. He gets that by charging customers outrageros prices to upgrade their RAM, Memory, Core counts, ect.
Do these have screen cracking issues ?
Have to agree with the points made here.
I've always found, with a long term purchase such as a laptop, a year down the line you will tend to forget the 'extra' you may have spent to get a good spec (within reason) but you will be reminded constantly with frustration if you did not!
I have an M1 Mac Mini with 16gb of RAM, I am glad I upgraded the RAM. 8gb just isn’t enough. I login to my work desktop using Splashtop from home and if I have email and some browser tabs open and some music it always goes over 8gb of RAM. Just upgrade to 16gb of RAM you’ll be much happier. I use 2 monitors with my M1 Mac Mini, so this M3 MacBook Pro should have been able to use 2 monitors.
Would it be better to get an M2 15” MacBook Air with 16 GB RAM than this base model M3 MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM?
Depends on if you care about the newer chip, fan, 120hz mini led 1000 nit peak brightness display and 6 speaker sound system. Probably a few other differences but those are the notable ones
I can't argue with that opening beat.
Really need an answer: What is the best choice for Fullstack Developer? M1 Pro or M2 Pro or M3 Pro, and how much memory is effiencient, 16gb or 32gb
Depends on your budget. But more storage and ram is better. So if M2 pro gets you more, go for that.
@@tonyt8271Thank for advice. I had already chosen the option 16" M3 Pro 36GB RAM and 1TB storage.
What is your assessment of the entry level Mac 16 pro max?
I got the original M1 13 Pro 2 years ago, its a good computer for what it is, I use it on the road for things like eMail, video but the option of some lite video editing. Its the 8Gb version with 512Gb SSD bought over the counter in store when it was found my 2012 iMac was dead and I had a 2 month wait to get the iMac spec I wanted.
Any issues with it?
I really enjoy the base m3 pro, the speed is no limitation, i dont really use the power it gives. Bought it for its amazing display, speakers, battery life and keyboard. It was also discounted so i would not change anything.
So just a casual user pretty much? Just bought one for college and streaming shows, stuff like that. Anything worth noting, or smooth sailing so far?
@@biosupdate7449 everythings perfect. For colleage it will be more than enough. The screen is gorgeous to look on, battery life is exeptional im getting around 25h of screen on time. Enjoy
I have a 2018 mbp 16" and still can't decide between m3 pro or m3 max... I don't use it to it's limits but like the idea of having headroom for anything I want to do 😅
What do you do on your computer?
Sorry Max, you got it wrong… M3 with 8GB ram is perfect and enough for 70% of users… with 16GB it cover over 90% of users… from office web developer music producers media consumption… 14 inch screen is perfect….
The same 70% that can use an M3 with 8GB of RAM will do just as well with a cheaper MacBook Air either in the 13" or 15" size. Sure the footprint of the 15" is slightly larger but its a lot thinner and lighter so its more pleasant for me to travel with and use plus you save $300 or $500 with the 13". If you upgrade it to 16GB its faster than the M3 MBP in most real-world tasks.
@@MaxTechOfficialiPhone 15 Pro Max has 8gb of Ram
Isn't this the same M3 that will be in upcoming MacBook Air with no fan? Any fan at all will have more sustained performance than an Air with no fan. I regret my heaver 13" M1 MacBook Pro instead of getting half-pound lighter MacBook Air, especially since it still has only 2 USB-C ports
now with the M3 macbook air, you can buy a MBP M3 refurbished from apple with the same specs just for $60 more
M3 MBP is a good value, everything is in comparison. 15” Air 512GB costs $1499 for just $100 more you get better display, cooling, speakers and more ports. Its not worth just $100 more? Its Pro because its pro-er than the air, not Pro Pro for lots of multi tasking or real heavy Pro work. Plus If you’re a real pro with real pro work load you don’t know 8GB Ram isn’t enough? I don’t even look at those machines, i went straight to 16” full M3 Max chip+64GB Ram. You know your computer needs better than anyone if you just want better experience on simple tasks like checking email, web browsing, media consumption, with very rare heavy tasks then that’s the reason to buy a M3 MBP.
Buyers interesting to air 15" are the target of this MacBook M3. I think it's a good purchase with 16Gb/1tb configuration: it will good for 4/5 years. Buyers of expensive M3 max what will think, when mbp M4 is going to arrive next year? Bye from Italy.
This ture
Totally agree with your statement: Apple purposely spent money to make the M3 MBP 14" worse so you dont buy it! Apple would have been better just to keep the original 14" case design and just replace the M3 Pro chip with M3 chip.
I could get an 8GB model for 1450 euros. The 16gb m2 pro costs 2k here in the Netherlands, the m3 pro 2250.
The air m2 13 inch costs 1399. For that money, the value seem to be okay.
Just one thing about the single-fan: With this move they got more space for battery. That's why the M3 hold ups longer than the models with M3 Pro or M3 Max. I think it's a good compromise for those, who just want a "better air with more connectivity, better display and better speakers".
I think the M3 MacBook Pro is well placed between the "real" Pro models and the Air. Maybe they should just called it "MacBook".
I’m tickled pink with my MacBook Air M2 16gb ram and 1Tb hdd, I do simple 4K video editing and 6k 360 video editing as well as photos, I had a i7 PC before that would take anywhere up to 24hrs for video edits and exports where as my Air does it in minutes, heck even my iPad Pro M1 did 10 to 15 times better than my surface pro pc, sure this new MacBook is limited but I bet compared to PC’s it’s still going to be leaps and bounds better, video editing taking minutes compared to hours is always a win. I no longer think about re-editing a video where on the PC it was just not a time effective option.
I wouldn’t go for the m3 machine for myself personally, but I just recommended it as a result of Black Friday coinciding with my father looking for a new laptop to replace his 2017 15”. I’m glad the screen wasn’t compromised whatsoever, especially since I’ve been creating personal car video edits in HDR, and that was something he wanted since the only other HDR screen is his 4K TV. Unlike me, where I use Final Cut and do video/photo editing on my machine, he only really does general browsing, email, and word processing, so the 8 GB of RAM isn’t limiting for him (his M1 iMac also has 8GB). So after the Black Friday brought the machine down from $1599 to $1399, he found it the perfect purchase and so he ended up getting the machine and he really enjoys it
One thing i like about the M3 vs M3 Pro is how much lighter it feels. Despite not showing much difference in the spec the missing fan and heat pipe makes it less heavy at the back so feels more balanced in the hand. I think the saving in price plus the weight makes the 16GB M3 a pretty good option actually.
🤡🤡🤡
You should try out the $1299 15" Air. Feels WAY lighter and thinner than the 14" with a larger screen. Upgrade it to 16GB and its faster than the 8GB M3 in most real-world tasks.
don't be an ass@@hardlabor9412
What's the big deal here? Why are people complaining about 8gb RAM seeing as this laptiop is cheaper than before? Go for 8gb and save some money compared to last gen, or get 16gb and spend the same/similar as last gen.
Surely it's quite simple??
I just ordered M1 pro 16 inch for 1599 refurbished and i think its best value for the money . 16 gb ram 512 gb ssd
Of course the older models will not have some of the upgrades like WiFi 6E.
If we just take out the “pro” naming from it, itd be fine. While i dont fully agree with all the compromise decisions apple made for it, its still a decent laptop for most ppl who know they dont need higher end specs.
Its just that mb airs and any last gen 14in mbp are better values over this machine.
But thats just it, value per performance any previous m-chip generation is better so long as you can find it at low prices/reputable re-sell.
But if youre buying new and specifically has to be apple, m3 base mbp isnt a bad machine. Still wouldve preferred 12gb of ram as base but never happening 😅
i am eyeing this macbook- context: i own the Air M1 base model... i wanna upgrade and future proof! my hubby has a macbook Pro m2 pro 14 inch. for me i dont need that much power but need the ports, so for me it makes sense to get the macbook pro m3 but 16GB/1TB . for those that wanna say am already in the pro chip territory - i dont want silver and dont like black ( contrary to popular choices) and want the storage - therefore for me it makes sense!
if i need any massive pro work my hubby's pro will work just fine!
i like the 14" size
i was initailly eyeing the air m3 with 16/1TB but the lack of ports!!!
It's so dissapointing how this brand doesn't consider other countries. It's so easy for all the reviewers to say "spend $200 more and you get everything blah blah" but the problem is that even when I want to spend the extra money I can't do so because we only get the base models, so, basically, as you all say, the base models are garbage to make you spend a bit more to get the real thing, but in other countries we're stuck with the garbage models...
Honestly, I have it and I'm really satisfied with it!
...don't tell the others that this thing lasts nearly two days without connecting to the wall. I love the screen, the much much better speakers and the battery...., don't need pro, exact the right machine for me.

For me my macbook air m1 with 8 gb is OVERKILL

Apple’s Secret Plan is actually the age-old upsell sales tactic. I found this out the expensive way each time I’ve upgraded. But it is true that my old Macs outperform any Windows machine I’ve built or bought. MacOS is much more efficient than bloated Windows 11 and is the main reason I love Macs.
Hi, still not sure of your role: Apple fanboy (pd by Apple, as per urging viewers to “Spend more money”) or more objective Apple consumer tech analyst. Certainly the former role is not illegal; however, it is frustrating. Unbiased information is hard to find. I am not a “Pro” I.e., deep-pocketed customer, but a therapist who creates sound files for clients. I’ve been trying to learn whether the new iMacs are comfortable with Logic Pro, possibly with attached slide shows. Apple doesn’t seem to discuss actual requirements, even for its own software, leaving one with “it will work/spend more money “. The salespeople don’t know. Seems the real dilemma comes down to open architecture vs. the Jony Ivie design touches. True?
Hello, Now technology has move on , it would be good if they dropped the SD card reader and put a CF Express card reader in.

This laptop may be a good deal for writers, creative and nonfiction.
MacBook Air is much cheaper and would perform the exact same for such a simple task.
@@jihadrouani5525 But the MB Pro 14 (M3) is currently £150 off and has 120Hz, miniLED, brighter display, double the storage, better speakers, more IO, and is larger, faster chip...
Don't ask an insurance agent if you need an insurance, and don't ask Apple which configuration you should buy. M3 14" Macbook is a great machine with 16GB/1TB specs and it costs $2000. Anything else is tricking you into an earlier upgrade cycle.
Not true, no matter which one you buy you will be upgrading at about the same time because of multiple factors. IMHO
Pro for "Prosumer"
I was that guy in 2016 when I bought my first MBP 13 with minimum specs. Learned my lesson, never again!
It's actually for Prolapse
It would be less clickbait-y if the title of the video was “Eight Gig MacBook Pro Review After 1 Month”. I mean- it’s a good machine when properly spec’d. Shame on Apple for optioning that machine with 8 gigs. Also… you follow this stuff… isn’t it common knowledge to anyone that follows the stuff that eight gigs is too little?
It's not click bait. Also the title says "the $1599 mistake" which means it can only be the 8GB model
The video editing style is getting changed after 2 years later
How did x2 speakers become x6? There are only x2 speakers in all 14” models
You are incorrect.
Wow guys, I think you really hit the nail on the head with this. Nobody should buy the 8 GB RAM variant! It's outdated, slower than the 16 GB to the point that some features don't even work on it bc there's not enough RAM, and it's not at ALL future proof.
512 GB storage actually isn't that big a deal, plenty of people don't use even that much I personally rock with 256 GB SSD in my 2010 Mac Pro that I upgraded to modern specs and RX6600XT to use as a gaming Mac (although I do have a 1TB hard drive I'll probably put in for additional storage to use as a Time Machine home server). The thing is in the era of iCloud and other cloud solutions nobody needs to spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars getting massive storage when all they do is Word and Excel stuff for college or their job. Just get Apple One and iCloud+ will have you covered. However, some people, like me with my MacBook Pro 16, do need 1TB or more because they do things like, in my case, use it as a mobile video editing workstation.
This is mainly sold to businesses that do not need more than 8GB, so it is an excellent premium laptop. Especially so when discounted (currently on Amazon, at least £150 off).
512 is not enough. if you like to store pictures and install apps, it will be full in no time. even 256 gb in your phone is just bare minimum nowadays. 1tb storage with 16gb of ram should be the base model for how apple charges.
The 8gb MacBook Pro works great for me and it has WiFi 6E which the Air didn’t have.
I stick with the m1 ultra range
while yeah, 16gb is recommended, I would not go that far to say "do not buy 8gb model'. the 8GB does go farther on a Mac for sure and they handle the multi tasking very well. Sure, as you said, certain apps may not perform at their peak if you have a lot open, but ...again, depends on the audience. for many 200$ is definitely a price. I see so many people buying 5000$ m3 max laptops - god only knows what future proofing even means today. when M4 comes out, bet ya, all those would get that in
You pretty much defended the statement, why would you buy an 8GB M3 Pro when you can just get any apple silicon air or previous gen pro for less if you're only performing light workloads? It's silly, there's no good reason for a productivity focused user to take the price jump and buy a gimped 8GB M3 Pro. This machine ONLY makes sense in a vacuum, not when comparable (and arguably more well rounded) machines exist for less from the same company.
I wasn’t going to purchase any Mac until Apple comes to their senses regarding SSD sizes and memory. Hey Apple, the PS5 comes with 1TB SSD at $499; what’s your excuse?!?
Apple makes their profit from upgrading/upselling. It is a business plan; take it or leave it. They are a small player,
спасибо, Капитан Очевидность!
did my research before buying and came to the same conclusion, it’s better to buy a m3 pro chip than a m3 with memory upgrade
8GB will not future proof your MacBook, you'll need at least 16GB to use your MacBook comfortably for the next 5 years or so. However as operating systems and applications get more complex 16GB will not be enough. I just recently bought a MacBook Pro M3 Max with 36 GB of ram and I have peace of mind that it will handle anything I threw at it and it will last me a very long time.
Yes, great advice, buy as much RAM as you can afford as even if it is excess, the way Apple handles RAM means it caches (preloads) data for quick access.
It will last about 5 years.
Buy me one please
Don't you think people should think what are they buying? I mean, yes, 8 gig is small, but hey, if you don't like it - you can buy 16 or 24 instead. Why having cheaper version is bad? Maybe they are targeting market for people who just wanted cool screen and speakers, but who don't need any performance. Why not let people have just cheaper version?
All of windows competitors has been having super low specs machines which barely works after the purchase for years, and that was completely okay.. Cause some people are on a budget and they should have at least this option as well!!
I understand that apple feels premium but why all the products should be "super pro performance" ? Let it be budget options as well...
I agree hoverer, that they should have advertised it a little bit different..
just feel apple is trying to ruin its reputation. M1 is still legend.. ..
Actually 8gb is more work efficient because you spend more time working rather than surfing on safari :)
😂
bla bla, everyone follow same narratives and don't think. if the 8gb intel worked without problems for years, the m3 is fine. But he need to be dramatic right? otherwise he will not make money. Normal people - do not listen, all macbooks are good, and forget about dramas, they all works great, as they did for years.
It kills your ssd faster to be honest
How would this channel function if Apple didn't release products every year?
Any Apple apologist saying people should know the difference I would say they shouldn’t defend a company putting “Pro” on a computer and it not being for professionals! This is an awesome video showing the 8gb of ram is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to showing how Apple is screwing Pros with this machine period!
I still like the M3 chips, they are quite fast
Same like M2 chip 😂
Got a MacBook Air 15 inch earlier this year, I got 8gb ram and 512gb storage, thank god I upped the storage , but I regret not upping the ram, at least swap is fast enough but I’m constantly using 8-10gb of swap (no lag though for now but might be an issue in a few years)

Stop saying the average consumer will buy it because they don’t know any better, in fact they know better than so called “tech savvy” youtube watchers! For one thing at least the average consumer is honest with their computer needs, like “hey i just use it for email, web, watch a movie or listen some music have some storage for office work and financial files. But want better display better speakers more ports for the convenience”, then M3 MacBook Pro is a better choice than $1499 512GB 15” air. Thanks for some common sense!
It will be perfect machine if its 16Gb of RAM.
Hopefully Apple get tons of returns and they will make 12GB or 16GB the base.
They were supposed to have a base of 12GB this year as they moved to 6GB modules. But the poor sales of the 8GB Macs last year meant they had large stocks, which, rather than e-waste, they will use in the M3 chipped models. I suppose it was delayed due to YT creators hating on 8GB models, meaning poor sales. Otherwise, we would have started at 12GB.
I’m an email pro and a zoom pro, so the base MacBook Pro 14 inch M3 is perfect for me and it will last me years. I could do my job on a $150 Chromebook but I’d much rather spend ten times more for Mac styling. Pros know style.
8GB of shared RAM is like having 4GB of sys Ram and 4GB of VRAM, adjusting to needs.
All OSs optimize RAM
All Windows machines with 8GB and an iGPU also share RAM, so what is your point?
All OSs optimize RAM, but some do it much better: macOS>Windows.
@@ahaimes6320 yes, this is true. The point seems to be lost on Mac users, not Windows users.
Sharing memory doesn't mean you have double the total of the shared amount.

Truth be told, 8GB of unified (4GB of sys mem and 4GB of VRAM - adj to need) is going to cause a lot of problems, ultimately leading to the death of your soldered SSD.

8GB RAM should become declared as illegal. Upselling at its finest.
If macbook pro struggles with cooling M3, I can’t image apple will ship it in fanless MB air
Most people buying the MB Air M3 or the MB Pro 14 M3 will not run pro-apps. These are aimed at the ultrabook market. I need help understanding people thinking every laptop is aimed at them. If you do RAM-intensive apps, buy more RAM; if you are a pro-user, buy the M3 Max; and if you are a semi-pro, the M3 Pro chip. It is basic stuff, like the i5/i7/i9!
I needed to buy a computer 2 weeks ago, my old retina 15'' 2014 died... so I went to Apple store, I want one with 16GB, M2 or M3... When I upgraded to 16GB, the time to arrive increased to 2 weeks... so I went to a refurbished store and found several models with 16GB that I would have at home in 3 days... Apple Refurbish Store had a better selection of computers with different configurations... And at the same price as the basic one, with the upgraded ram.
But who will export 50x 40mp photos?
Really some a PRO user doing that?
Thanks for the detailed review! The limitations in performance due to the single fan and 8GB RAM make it tough to justify the purchase
...depends on what you use it for? If you use it for the target audience, it is fine. If you are a p[ro-user and just trying to buy the cheapest, then you should expect reduced performance, as the M3 chip is not a pro-chip, it is the equivalent to Intel's i5 and aimed at the ultrabook market.
Another fun tidbit is that Apple has chosen to put the logic board (it's a motherboard) firmware on the SSD itself rather than a separate bios chip to save a few pennies. So if you wear out that SSD due to heavy swapping and it dies, it's a $700 logic board replacement to even get it to boot as you can no longer boot off an external drive if the main drive fails like older macbooks.
MS has replaceable SSDs because 90% of their market is Enterprise, and they demand removable SSDs. Maybe that is why WOA in the SP9 is so slow versus the M3 MB Pro 14?@@cameronbosch1213
Apple is getting arrogant now. 200$ extra for just extra 8GB RAM is outrageous.
"Don't buy this Apple" really means "M3, after the hype", click bait thumbnails are like people talking out of the script...Are you really concerned about someone buying one of the unneccessary configurations or specificating a custom M3 computer by mistake? Do you relaize at what price and perfromance are they selling? It's not like having the better SoC available is going to make people hurry to buy them... we're not near to feel any disturbance on what ssd, ram, cpu gpu cores, color or keyboards to choose... they will better auction them... to get the most out of milking the clients... just imagine PC users needing a new computer afther years of frustation on PC Windows/Linux world and having to now take a very cold bath of reality thanks to Apple...
8GB of RAM is not acceptable at all once you pay above $600. 256GB SSD as well. And giving them $200 for an extra 8GB of RAM meanwhile it costs $30 on the PC side is just as insane.
90% of Windows ultrabooks use soldered RAM, so that point, when looking at the bigger picture, is moot unless you are going to hate Dell, Samsung, HP, etc?
I think the price of the extra 8GB of ram are distributed on the screen, on the design, on the ports and on the speakers 🤡🤡🤡
even my cheap windows have 64gb ram and this thing is only giving 8gb? even my phone have 12gb ram.
90% of Mac buyers do not want to buy Windows. So, that point is not relevant to the core Mac market.
Why compare a pro chip with a non pro chip? 😂
Yes, it all falls apart when you realise the M3 and M3 Pro are aimed at two different market segments, and a comparison for someone looking for an ultrabook needs to be more accurate. An M3 MB Pro 14 should be compared to its real rival, the upcoming MB Air M3, as they are both ultrabooks.
I used to have an M1 Air base model with 8gb ram and Safari kept complaining about the memory hungry browser-Games I played on multiple tabs. The Safari on my M3 Max with 128GB didn't complain once so far... but I should probably do other stuff on that machine... ._.
If you don't care performance you would never buy this
8GB of ram is a joke. 18GB is BARELY enough and I believe 36GB is the bare minimum for modern day use. Also, why compare the M3 to the M2 pro? Compare M2 Pro to M3 Pro.
Our family has six people, and they all have 8GB and are fine. They use their machines (Windows and Macs) for basic stuff. You may wish to know that probably 66% of laptop owners are just casual,l basic users where 8GB is acceptable!
@@ahaimes6320 they aren’t actually using their laptops then or they have no clue what they are doing and are just ignoring the ssd swap. I’m not new to this. I know what I’m talking about.
@@soonerborn9073 The dRAM that Apple uses for swap is not the flash storage so its life is 1000X more than an SSD. Each SSD module has about 2GB of this MLC RAM so 512GB will give 4GB of extra RAM, ergo, 8+4GB=12GB. After that there will be swap to the flash unless Apple OS can compress unused RAM. I find that I rarely touch the flash storage for swap.
Your histrionics over should you/should you not buy are ridiculous. I have a MBP 14” base. It has way more power than I need. The current MBP base is what I wanted a year ago. Apple has failed in that most people don’t need high end rendering performance but do insist on top shelf video. Your constant beat down on any Mac that can’t do it all is tiresome. Please pull back to reality.
The YT bubble is ridiculous. They do not even understand that they represent a niche market, not the majority.
8GB should be illegal in 2023
I think it's interesting that Apple didn't include 16GB of RAM just to temp more Air buyers to trade up. They probably figured the speakers, screen and ports were enough. My bet is this is going to be the sales dog in the lineup. 8GB buyers are going to stay in the Air line and the Pro users are going to opt for the M3 Pro line.
AGREE COMPLETELY. My needs and workload require a great screen and storage space over RAM. I understand I might be in the minority but these different models exist for CHOICE. Heck you guys even did a video on the base 8 256 iMac saying everyone else is wrong about it and it can last for 10 years. You are starting to act snobby in your videos (I like your content but stop sounding elite). I was able to get a brand new SEALED base MacBook Pro m3 for $300 off. I was eyeing the MacBook Air for my needs. But was able to snag this for the same price. So I agree with the post I’m replying to.
To Max Tech stop sounding so snobby. I do more than email and watch videos. Not every PRO require tons of RAM but makes my profession no less PRO THAN YOURS
@@josephbartol7302 I think you make an excellent point. If you're in that Air camp but push it a little harder than most Air users and got it on sale for $1299, no brainer!
The base MB Pro 13 has always been Apple's second best seller behind the Air. So I suspect the updated MB Pro 14 (M3) will sell millions, outselling every Windows model.
This is the replay of the touch bar M1/2 MBP. Make it suck by purposely compromising it so much so no one buys it.
I disagree with the "better than most Windows laptops.".... if you get a Windows laptop in that price range, it's better than a MacBook Air and an 8 GB M3 Macbook... you can love Apple products without disliking Windows laptops... especially since you don't use them.
If Max did the tests he does on this 8GB MB Pro on an 8GB Windows machine, the Windows machines would perform far worse. In fact, many would freeze. He is 100% truthful in how he tests them.
I should have seen tbis coming youtubers hate base models. If you put 8 gig they loose their minds..
I think u are wrong with everything your say lol 😂😂😂😂 funny👎
I've across the term 'user hostile pricing' at work. Essentially a company will run the numbers and produce a configuration that offers them the fattest margins. In an ideal world this is the configuration that they want everyone to buy. They then produce a crippled, cheaper version that no one in their right mind would consider, because it offers such poor perceived value for money compared to the one they want you to buy. At the high end they can leverage the consumers acceptance of the law of diminishing returns, where 'power users' are willing to pay a 200% price hike for a 30% real world performance improvement.
It's a sad product. Hopefully this meh product doesn't undermine how great the M3 Pro MBP or M3 Max 16 are. Most people have accepted that MacBook Pros are premium products with premium costs. You want to save money and be inside the MacOS ecosystem, get a M1/M2 MacBook Air or refurbished M1/M2 MBP.
It's EMBARRASSING that a company as rich as apple is skimping on RAM and HD sizes... I'd rather apple NOT put money into VR head sets and put money it into their laptops. To pay this much for laptops with 2009 era memory and storage specs. is just embarrassing. And Make stuff upgradeable/repairable for gods sake.
