That little salute (?) at 2:20 was adorable!! And it hardly bares mentioning but he really has the most infectious, innocent smiles I’ve ever seen. Such a cutie I NEED HIM!!
dave is so good his guitar plays by itself
I was there You fuckers LOL

Lmao
😋 Ha Ha said the Clown.
My Dad gave me the 45 of this song when it came out, my first record. I think I was around 5yrs old and I wanted to listen to it all the time. I still have it 56yrs later😊
Always loved Dave, so underrated.
Kinks were among the greatest bands of the 60´s.
AGREED.
Better than the Beatles or the stones.i loved the small faces also.
Also of the 70ies, 80ties and 90ties
1967 revisited and still sounds brilliant 🎶🎼🎵
@@stuartparker6838 great take.
Strangely, this record had more effect on me than all the rest of the Kinks’ incredible oeuvre. It had a poignancy that struck me as heartbreaking and the female refrain was glorious. I was 9 at the time.
This is a wonderful song! The female vocalist la la ing in the background is Rasa Davies, who was Ray's wife at the time.
❤
In memory of Stan laurel who died the previous year
Similarly. Up there with "Waterloo Sunset" for me, and everything else a distant second.
Nothing to do with Stan Laurel. Ray Davis said he wrote it. About a Repetitive time in his life. To much work and Alcohol then waking up one morning. In a room full of drunken people Stepping over him and he hadnt a clue where he was.
I'm in new Zealand and always
loved the Kinks.rhey was my generation. But death of a clown of was so different. But
So good. Those were the days.lets go back.
This is such a great song...I miss the 60s and 70s
yeah a time as girls were girls and chocolate thick as telefone books (if people today still remember simpsons or what "telefone books" are xd ääh whatever i am 30 and i have no idea about the 60ties, for gods sake in am german and i wasnt alive in the 60 ties. and even if i would have been alive, i am a ph.d philosophy student and i kind of think the 60 ties wouldnt have been so much fun for me^^). But eitherway its one of my favorite songs
The cars looked amazing.
I was eleven when this song came out and I’d just gone up to senior school. I loved this song then and still do today.
I was 13 in 1967 and not much into music but this song just gripped me. I think it's a classic.
I never saw a more beautiful smile than Dave's *_*
Soooo true!! So true!! Love em!!
This is Dave Davies' greatest moment. Simply superb!!
I really like Rats. I think with that he invented grunge.
Great song and great artist with lovely smile🤗
What a great song!
❤
Great song and Dave is quite the showman
Love the medieval vibes in this performance!
Das war eine schöne Zeit und ein toller Sänger Dave Davies ❤❤❤
ich vermisse sie ..
An amazing early example of invisible wireless technology!
wie mich dieses Lied bewegte ...
The year after this came out a song with an identical tune won Eurovision.
This is an overlooked, haunting melody...
Classic record and an all
time fave of mine and a monster UK hit. Very good B side too.
Dave also had another solo single hit here in The UK “Susanna’s Still Alive” another good un. Not as good as this but still very good. “Lincoln County” followed this and again it was very good but didn’t trouble the UK Singles Charts. Yours in Kinks-and Dave’s solo slots as well. Great outfit and Ray was an inspiration. Chris 🎼
Super song. I have know it for years on the Czech version, Czech lyrics, very good. Our signer has a very good Bass více, his cover version is from the 60ties or 70ties..
Always loved this song and the Dylanesque lyrics
Dave Davies is a absolute the Best!
Music that is pure nostalgia.
Nice video and a great music! God bless the Kinks!
Happy Birthday Dave! So much Love to you legend ❤🧡💛💚💙💜💖
I love his style here.
Dave Davies ,my Favorit singer ,songwriter and guitar Player ever❤
Loved Dave all my life, still love him
Love that video so much!
O piano no início é arrebatador, lhe conduz automaticamente ao resto da música. Esse refrão assombrado também é muito cativante.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
In the 60's there were many excellent groups ,The Kinks were one of them.
There was lots of fantastic groups right up into the 1990s. That was the decade where music started to decline.
Geile Zeit. Tolle Gruppe.
A Brit hit that charted and revived a renewed interest in the Kinks.
Haunting melody that didn't get airplay in the US - Perhaps due to references to alcohol.
No, there's plenty songs America about alcohol, for starters Sinatra & Dean Martin & loads more. Just sometimes happens that's all as it sometimes did in UK charts.
No, back then in the US, it would have been references to drugs that were problematic. Getting airplay in the US was more a matter of luck than design.
@@dennismccunney4462 The Kinks were on American musicians union black list since that first tour of theirs and went through hell because of that...Unions were masters behind the scenes back than..All explained in some of Rays biographies..
Yes and he is so funny when he smile.
A truly brilliant and original song. Unquestionably one of the best songs from the 1960s.
Lovely boy ❤
Ray Davies' younger brother's only solo hit, managing to reach #31 in Australia.
Susannah's still alive!
Place 3 in UK
Place 3 in Germany
Place 2 in Netherland
According to the Australian Kent charts I have here, the song went to number 4 in Sydney, number 8 in Melbourne and based on the population at the time that would indicate the 'mean' average of chart positions would be higher than 31?
Strangers!!
I love you Dave!
Happy birthday Davey!
Classic! Remember this playing at the fairground 1967 Lancaster
Das war noch Musik !!!
Truly excellent.
I like how the most replayed moment is the cute little pose he does near the end
Timeless song..simply !
Those were great singers
Meesterlijk.... enig .... is en blijft een TOPnummer !!!!
The all looked incredible cool
Musica linda.. cantor parece um príncipe ❤❤❤
ディヴィス兄弟の弟さん、バンドで観た時から魅力的でした。笑顔で演奏してるのがいいですね。音楽の楽しさを教えてくれます。
Dave is gorgeous way better looking than his brother don't ya think?
1967 best year of my life met the girl of my dreams. OMG How I wish I'd never let her go 💔💔💔
yeah, she's great ...I married her !
Shit happens ,
Really clever man one to remember

So cool! 🥰😍❤️👍
My gran actually dated Dave Davies .
The old style suit fit perfectly on Dave. It was so Swinging London!
That is graet music,its real👌
GREAT SINGER & SONG.BRING BACK THE GOOD OLD DAY'S.
To the memory of Stan Laurel. Love this song!!
Love Dave
DAVE DAVIES
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!💪👍✌
Classic😊👍❤️
Great song by a single member of The Kinks…now listen to the song which won the Eurovision soon after this…in 1968!
I went lo listen it and you are right. The lala is the same.
A great song poignant
so cool, pure folk, legendary like Bob Dylan, but both unique
One of their best
I loved this song, thought it was a classic. It appears the audience was not in tandem but then again that was BBC at that time.
I was 14 😎
I was 16 when this song came out remember playing it on jukebox in the pub at the end of the High Hill.
Dave, always underrated and overshadowed by Ray. Such a shame, great song though as is Suzannahs Still Alive.
Einfach nur SUPER !!!
A Classic ! 🔥🎸🔥
The song was a satire about his brother Ray Davies who Dave had feuds with him and Mike Avory.
Hardly likely ... as Ray Davies co-wrote the song! It was actually about the tedious touring schedules The Kinks were enduring at the time: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_a_Clown
Great to see this video though ... first time I've seen it.
@@spiritualparadise4887 Totally agree with you! And Ray played on the record.
This and Muswell Hillbillies hit hard.

My makeup is dry and it cracks on my chin
I'm drowning my sorrows in whiskey and gin
The lion tamer's whip doesn't crack anymore
The lions they won't bite and
The tigers won't roar
La la la La
So let's all drink to the death of a clown
Won't someone help me to break up this crown
Let's all drink to the death of a clown
La la la la la la la la la la
Let's all drink to the death of a clown
The old fortune teller lies dead on the floor
Nobody needs fortunes told anymore
The trainer of insects is
Crouched on his knees
And frantically looking for runaway fleas
La la la la la la la la la la
Let's all drink to the death of a clown
So won't someone help me
To breakup this crown
Let's all drink to the death of a clown
La la la la la la la la la la
I don't know who else noticed this, but Dave clearly gave the finger, British style, raising two fingers- which oddly enough in the US became known as the ✌️ peace sign.
who knew
I've lost my mined...😅
That un mistakable echo chamber used on the girls backing voices
somewhat relaxes me.😄
I am here
Clench your teeth in a smile when you sing, and you too can be Dave Davies!
I wish, ha'ha....
Special
❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️
Tod eines 🤡. Es werden noch unzählige folgen. Bärenstark, Dave.
love the way he give's the V sign to that knobhead audience
Best
I thought he was the coolest!
I didn't think he did lead vocals on this one. Good teeth for a sixties Brit.
I’d like to forget that song and visual
...szemtelenul jól lazán adta ....🙋❤
They expected to have a two or three year pop career...
At 2:16 and 2:33, who were Dave's fingers going up to? Ray maybe?
For non-UK viewers, two fingers like that is a very rude gesture (not to be confused with V for Victory, which is palm outward; with the back of the hand, it's equivalent to the US middle finger salute). The German audience wouldn't have recognised it, nor the producers since they let it through.
