It might be more likely that 1. g3 was the first move, followed by 1... h5 2. e3, but the fact that Levy got it so fast is uncanny. In the Lichess database, the position has occurred 7 times, but no one has found Bd3.
Appearently its been reached 7 times in the lichess database. I've had a lot of games start with 1...h5, I always hate it because if I lose after they played that dumbass opening its super embarrassing 😆
No one good enough to spot Bd3 is dumb enough to get that position...actually, looking at some of Carlsen and Hikaru's openings when they play each other, maybe they could haha
Levi’s brain would explode if a puzzle involved both of White’s Bishops but the b, d, e and g pawn hadn’t moved. Honestly, I’d notice… you’d be amazed at the number of chess pictures online, on boxes, advertisements etc. with board set up wrong or an impossible position. It’s just another way to enjoy a chess puzzle, “Can you even get here?!” Fun fact! Even the Marvel X-Men movie when they were young had a chess board set up wrong…. Xavier was likely the smartest man on Earth and could read everyone’s mind… but couldn’t crack the code of White On Right. Sad.
Its ok I blundered mate in 11 when tilting and playing a hippo setup. Apparently that position happened in like 12 other lichess games, no one found the winning move
There exist these types of puzzles, they are called retrograde chess puzzles, where you find the least amount of moves to reach a set position or you find what the previous move was of a specific position was. Sometimes they envolve more obscure things, like en passant or finding out if the opponent can castle or not. It's really fun to tackle!
This looks like the opening to a chess app I downloaded on my phone where if you did a puzzle then closed the app without going back to the menu when a normal game was already finished and then when you went back in hit resume game it would give you completely busted chess openings. No kings, black's bishops are on the 3rd rank, half of white's pawns are just missing...
I mean clearly both pawns got taken with the only question being what took what and when. His guess is as good as any others where only the knights and that rook could move where both pawns were eventually taken.
This is a line in the king's fianchetto: lasker simul special variation. Obviously. the moves are probably: 1. g3 h5 2. e3 h4 3. gxh4 Rxh4 4. Nf3 Rh8 5. Ng5!? f6?? 6. Bd3!!
@@jebbush3130 Can't find anything better than the fork either. It does come with attacks on the queen every turn at least, meaning you don't lose tempo, and the king is in an awkward position. I wouldn't call it a lost game below 1500 tho. People blunder so much more than that on a regular basis, and there's plenty of material to fight back.

so in otherwords this is still theory
It's not a difficult move to find, it's just the average player to get that position is not of the calibre to find that move
@@notnotcharles3022 I went on the lichess database and one of the games in which this position was reached was between two 1900s. Black won.

in order to get into this position, you must lack the ability to get out of it

That ending is proof that Levy is not a human but a chess engine.
Why
This is why he retired, because he solved chess
if its a custom position then wtf is the significance of the missing g pawn
Bishop can go to a lot more squares. Opens up new confusing moves :D If the rights move is the only legal move then what's the point.
@@masterofsorrow2699 mean it could have just been on g3 and you would have just as many legal moves
because it's a puzzle you have to figure out the solution if the g pawn was there it'd make it way more simple

to justify how the H-pawn was gone and the black rook has open file?
The way that Levy just stares at the position when he first sees it like "WTF am I looking at???"

guess the elo, chess puzzle edition lol
It was a real game, but all puzzles are a custom position
You should do a series where you just try to figure out how a puzzle position is reached in an actual game
Theres a thing kinda like that to guess the opening that ive seen hikaru do

my favorite opening for black
Could the opening have been like e3, nc6, nf3, nb1, g4, h3, g5, hxg5, nxg5, f6?
It might've also be something like 1. g4 Nf6 2. g5 Ng8 3. e3 h6 4. Nf3 hxg5 5. Nxg5 f6

It have purpose: to see right move you should be able to see oponent's weaknesses.
