Greetings from Connecticut, where this past Saturday it was 82° 🔥in the afternoon, and Wednesday night it dropped to 26° 🧊.
I assume getting the heat working was so a crew could gut that house in relative comfort? 😆Perhaps next time, when you tell them you need the electricity and gas hooked up, you might want to add "I also need access to the furnace closet" to the list.
I definitely understand your warnings about the pipe dope, just had to replace the water pump in my Jeep and dealt with red RTV sealant. There's no good way to keep it from getting just about everywhere. Comes off skin easily enough, but once it's on your clothes... Game over.

That looked to be one of those jobs that are just fun to do really. Any time I see that avocado green, I know it's an old one. It was filthy, but we kind of expected that, even though you made it a million times better, it could still use a deep clean and vacuum. As long as no leaks and no CO, you are good to go. Smoking in the house doesn't help. Also, if it has an old water heater and stove, 3 pilots going it may show a little higher than what you are use to seeing. I could not believe the thermocouple was still good in that old unit, you just never know. What got me was how you picked up on CO outside, but then showed the same inside. Maybe the detector needs to be calibrated or reset? I'll stop jawin' now, you did what I am use to seeing you do, a freakin excellent job!

No bubbles = No troubles Curtis . That indoor unit made lots of noise when you put that fan on but, the up side is the heat exchanger is very likely intact. Because with all those cob webs the air flow over the heat exchanger would have made them dance and they seemed to be very still. Still may want to offer an upgrade to a mid efficient system. 👍👍🇨🇦

Im our AHJ makes us put a supporting hanger on the out going gas pipe before going into the house instead if having the gas meter itself support the gas pipe. If you rupture the diaphragm in the regulator you will have a waiting period and a hefty bill from gas company, just a fyi. Was there any signs of white powder on the flue and did you take the topper off at the end of the flue to see if anything was blocking the flue pipe? Since the house has been inhabitable for some years? Looks like an old Westinghouse furnace? Great video thanks Curtis.

Fairly surprising that heating system passed as working okay. I'd recommend the owner replace the shaded pole with a capacitor start as that thing sure starts up slow and hums much getting up to speed. It is also likely to be more efficient on the power consumption using a PSC. The rusty gas meter fittings they left him with can be helped with some plumbers gas thread compound to act as a lube to help get them turning smoothly as well as sealing the connection. In our area, we have to use black pipe. Long live the old HVAC that were made to serve the public for a few decades. Long live the good HVAC techs who use common sense and apply professional methods in their service like Curtis does.

Honestly Curtis I understand you wanting to keep the bill low on the abandoned house.
But seriously a gas only furnace in GA where a low is typically in the upper 40s and does not get below freezing often. Just does not make sense and you rehooking up gas service.
When just replacing the super old gas furnace with a heat pump seems more financially feasible in this case.
Like giving an estimate on a new gree flex 3 ton unit with the 10 kw heat or at a minimum a gree flex system with the coil only in between with that old gas furnace as a backup when the heat pump needs to defrost.
Again that old gas furnace just seems and looks like it a carbon monoxide or fire Hazzard waiting to happen and me I love the old stuff considering they are way more reliable than a lot of today's systems.
So for me to say more needs to be done or that gas furnace needs to go says a lot.
