I think that could be a record.
The Division Bell has always been my favorite Floyd album. I feel like many fans really don't like it though. To be fair the lyrics are much more "on the nose" than their earlier stuff.
When I was in college the local radio station aired the 'world premier' broadcast of the new Pink Floyd song "Keep Talking", which was the first glimpse of the Division Bell that was released. A multitude of people from all 5 floors of the residence hall tuned in and cranked their stereos to full volume to simultaneously play the song, effectively making the entire residence hall a giant speaker. A strange, but fond memory. Incidentally, the closing track of the album, "High Hopes", encapsulates that feeling of remembering the wonders and fondness of college from the perspective of being older, which makes the album even more powerful to me now than when it was released.
I remember they had the lights on the Empire State Building in NYC changed to pulse red to promote the album on the night it released. We went to the city to see it. It looked wicked in the skyline on the way in.

This song inspired me to buy the Division Bell when I was 11, which inspired me to buy most of their albums, which made them my favorite band. The tube thing on his guitar is called a talk box, by the way. The sounds from the guitar are amplified and directed through that tube. Then as he changes the shape of his mouth, it changes the sounds of the guitar as if it's speaking.
I've always loved the Division Bell album, and this track in particular is one of my favourites. I've heard this song most of my life but watching this now it hit me hard. This song is incredibly relevant in today's world, where censorship abounds. David Gilmour was moved to tears by BT's commercial featuring Stephen Hawking's words: "Mankind's greatest achievements have come about by talking. And its greatest failures by not talking. It doesn't have to be like this. [...] All we need to do is make sure we keep talking." And looking at the world today, ripping itself apart, lead by radical ideologies that refuse to talk and reach common ground, where censorship is the default and it is applauded, it is hard to not be similarly moved to tears by those same words.
Deep Song. Stephen Hawking talking about how humankind learned to talk, which set us apart from the other animals, and how important communication is. The irony of the lyrics is the man is lost in his own world of isolation, not able to say what's on his mind, drowning in his own feelings... The woman pleading "why won't you talk to me? You never talk to me!" And the man just can't find the words to express his feelings out loud to her... completely wasting the gift of communication. The "tube" at the end is a Talk Box... even bestowing the gift of speech to a guitar... but Gilmour being the master of restraint lets the notes speak for him... maybe that's the man making his attempt to say what's really on his mind? Great, Deep Song.

Division Bell was my introduction to Pink Floyd. I remember one night driving 4/5 hours driving from college to my home for the holidays, at midnight, and listening to this, and feeling constant goosebumps.
After a 4 hr. bus ride(18 bus loads) to NYC, got to see this, Pulse tour, at Yankee Stadium. An awesome show, just awesome. Been a Floyd fan for a long time, and they did DSoM live.
Jamel, when you pointed out how the music caused the hairs the rise on your arm, at that same moment in the song, I felt the very same thing! I looked down and all the hairs were standing up on my arms also!
I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know, and I know all the great ones.
I saw them in Vancouver bc in 94...we were way in the back but I can tell you it was one of the most spectacular shows ever...and they needed a stadium of at least 50 thousand to get there equipment and light show in...

Pink Floyd just sucks you in to a different dimension of peace. You have to just relax and let it take over your senses. Just a perfect reaction Jamel. You looked speechless
You got it man that was Stephen Hawking's he actually did that just for that song
AFAIK this was from an ad aired on BBC for BT (british telecom); IIRC there is a wikipedia article on that, too.
Not true. It's taken from a BT commercial: czcams.com/video/du_iG7Veupc/video.html
This is the most beautiful reaction I've seen to the song! Pink Floyd it's an amazing band and to see a reaction like that makes me crazy!!
I was so lucky to get to see this tour as well as The Momentary lapse of reason tour. Both phenomenal shows.
I was privileged to see this performed in the New Orleans Superdome during Pink Floyd's "Division Bell" tour. Awesome song and reaction!
My husband and I saw Pink Floyd 4 times, and I don't have the words for greatness and .......!!!!!
I was waiting for you to see this! So glad you enjoyed it!! 😎
This is my fav by Pink Floyd. They've always had such great backup vocalists.
Great reaction, Jamel! :-) ha ha, could not wait to see your reaction to the talk-box; I knew you'd appreciate it! :-)
If i recall correctly, there is only one other Pink Floyd that utilizes the talk-box :-)
How appropriate for David to use the Talkbox on this song "Keep Talking". What's awesome is he doesn't over use it. Love this song.Excellent reaction! Loving it!
My top 5 fav Pink floyd song. The thing is, this is not one of their more well known songs, however is a million times better then the top songs today. Thats how good Pink floyd is.....
Jamel, are you my son I didn't know I had? Lol. I love the song "Us & Them". The sax will put you on the moon. They are number one since the summer i visited Alabama sitting in a cornfield (where they grew the pot, lol) at 15 smoking out like a cheech & Chong movie listening to DSOTM
For the first time. I am now 64. If I ever get alzheimer's their songs will be
The only thing I will remember. My brain has the hard drive of them, lol.
Love you Jamel. You have to watch Pulse live the whole concert. You will know what I am talking about. Keep playing and talking. Lol. Peace
Brother. I know you will know what I mean when I say the only person, besides Gilmour, who can make his guitar talk like it is talking to you is Chris Stapleton. One stroke sounds like a song. Amazing.
I have this and the whole concert is awesome...great taste in music hear...as always...Ty brother
Check out wearing the inside out as well. Another gem
I've been subscribed to your channel for 2 years possibly longer, and your reaction to music (no matter the genre) is priceless everytime. You're Authentic Man!!!!!! Hope you see this...
Hey, June 1994 , this exact concert was here in SC at the Clemson University football stadium. I was there with my sister. Packed stadium, bleachers and ground. The lasers went so high, the airport was notified to be aware of the lasers. The show didn't start til a little after 9 pm because they needed pitch dark to show them. Awesome show. Much better live! I do have the DVD of this concert. I turn it up!
Saw this tour at the Rose Bowl from the floor next to the mirror ball that rose out of the center of the field. Incredible show!
Your reactions have given me a new appreciation for Pink Floyd. I’m almost 50 and have loved music for a long time but never really listened to PF. Thank you for what you do.
I have the DVD and CD from this tour. Phenomenal performance and great song by one of Floyd's most underrated albums and a personal favorite of mine!
Loved your reaction to the vocoder Jamel. Was waiting for it……. Absolutely love the song and Gilmour’s emotive guitar. Thanks, all the way from New Zealand.
Yes! Pink Floyd has been on my list for a loooooooong time, and Division Bell is one of their best albums, IMO. David gave me goose bumps as well. Love your channel, Jamel!!
Division Bell was my introduction to Pink Floyd. I remember one night driving 4/5 hours driving from college to my home for the holidays, at midnight, and listening to this, and feeling constant goosebumps.
Was at the show in Houston. Who remembers the rain!!!!!! Those lasers were glittering.
After a 4 hr. bus ride(18 bus loads) to NYC, got to see this, Pulse tour, at Yankee Stadium. An awesome show, just awesome. Been a Floyd fan for a long time, and they did DSoM live.
i still get goose bumps when i here this song! such a great song. i know this is a old vid but great work man keep it up!
One of my all time favorite bands!!! Love it and love you, Jamel!!!
The one and only time I can remember seeing Gilmour use a "talkbox"! Beautiful!
Great Reaction Jamel. Can’t go wrong with Pink Floyd.😀👍❤️✌️🌼
I saw them in Vancouver bc in 94...we were way in the back but I can tell you it was one of the most spectacular shows ever...and they needed a stadium of at least 50 thousand to get there equipment and light show in...
Always enjoy music appreciation class brother. And I got to get me one of those T-Shirts
Can you imagine watching Pink. Floyd in concert it would be electric🎶
This concert video is called PULSE ...every song they performed for this was amazing ...especially the song RUN LIKE HELL
One of their many magnificent pieces of work.
Jamel's face when the talk box hits lol!
That tube Jamel is called a Talkbox. Love ya brother!
That show was at Earls Court in London in October 1994, they did 14 nights there, I was at two of the shows. I have lived!
