Majority of wet belts failing, is down to lack of maintenance, and owners missing regular services/using incorrect oils.
These belts are failing at very low mileage, around 40,000 miles.
Your wife's car is testament to what people should expect from a properly maintained vehicle.

Absolutely. But now Ford has relaxed the t's &c's for this scheme and no longer requires a history of lubricants used in the service.
We got our car, used, from a Ford dealer in 2020 and I insisted on having it serviced at the dealer (even with a costly £1.7k wet belt change in 2023) every year. I do all other repairs on her car such as brakes and suspension.

I got a ford focus eco boost st line 2019 1litre what do I need to make sure to keep the car the oil slump free ? How often should I get it checked ?

I would advise to do the oils changes much earlier than the 12k miles recommend by Ford and to switch off the auto-start/stop as there is less stress in the belt. However, if your car has the turbo at the back of the engine, then it's likely to be a newer version of the Ecoboost with timing chain instead of wet belt.

@@GentilsGarage I’ll get that check if it got the new timing chain but if it’s doesn’t and it’s wet belt you think it’s better to take to ford or normal garage for the the oil change so it doesn’t block ? Thanks for replying back

Is this only for UK? I believe the reputation of these engines is the same in mainland Europe...

The letter sent to the dealers was only from Ford UK and that's as far as I know.

Another good reason i'd avoid changing my mk2.5 to a mk3

      If I ever buy a MK3, it would have to be a Pre-Ecoboost 1.6

How did you get this information? I have a focus with this problem and didn’t get any info.

I got a copy of a letter from an acquaintance but soon after several dealership employees published the letter online.

Can’t understand why they’d muck in for a repair on a ten year old vehicle. It’s practically at the end of its life.

The design life of a car these days is over 10 years old. According to the European Association of Automotive Suppliers, 14-20 years is the average lifetime of a vehicle.
