ahhh! meryl sounded great! or what i heard of her at the end! love this woman! did anyone realize how great a potential that woman had and what she would become!??!
Alternative lyrics if the South won: God saved the South, God saved the South, Her altars and firesides, God saved the South! Now that the war is done, now that we arm and won, Chanting our battle cry, "Freedom or death!" Chanting our battle cry, "Freedom or death!" God be our shield, at home or afield, Stretch Thine arm over us, strengthen and save. What tho' they're three to one, forward each sire and son, Strike and the war is won, strike and they caved! Strike and the war is won, strike and they caved! God made the right stronger than might, Millions would travel us down in our light. Lay Thou their legions low, roll back the ruthless foe, Let the proud spoiler know God's on our side. Let the proud spoiler know God's on our side.
Hmmm must be how Dylan came up with his classic "With God On Our Side" ballad .. Both sides in the War really believed the Almighty was behind their cause ..
AAAAGGHHH!!! I only heard her clearly on the last line. I wanna duct tape the men's mouths shut so I can hear Meryl sing. GOD-shout your mouths!!! Random rant. Rgh.
It was never the official Confederate anthem. The "Star-Spangles Banner" isn't deserving of many awards itself. The tune is good (it was originally a drinking song) but Francis Scott Key's lyrics are just awful, a lot of crap about explosions and a nearly pointless war. And virtually unsingable as well. That damn high note on "o'er the land of the free" defeats nearly everyone.
He did not write it as a song, but a poem. The war was not pointless. Great Britain attacked US vessels and kidnapped US citizens. Also, they were intentionally stirring up conflicts between western americans and the natives, selling them weapons and buying American scalps from the Indians. When asked to stop, they simply doubled down. So, James Madison declared war. Furthermore, Key is not writing about the war in general, but about the miracle defense of Ft. Mckinley in Maryland.
God save the South in this Time ! (2021 )

Girls: how boring
The boys:
No girl says that
@@southslastrebel2575 I'm sure the girls which are mostly liberal now would say "that is racist."
@@bigsamtheevangelist5122 must be talking about yankees
@@southslastrebel2575 they invaded the south hard to tell anymore

Try to figure Meryl Streep singing "God save the South" now...
LOL...I see John Lithgow in there, too.
John Lithgow in the back row.
Great!
THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAINNNNN
Absolutely!

Meryl... Funny :)

If you are as finely-tuned to Meryl's voice as I am, you can pick up on it a bit during the choruses, lol. She was so gorgeous - still is.
Whats the original video
Isn't that Charles Kimbrough, from Murphy Brown, in the center (male solo)?
Sure looks like him....
They screwed up the lyrics.....
+Brian Sasser For dramatic and thematic effect. (Although "Strike 'till the war is won, strike to the grave!" is certainly my cup of tea.)
He has a great voice!

You can barely hear her :(. It should have been all her. The men overpower the women.
The flag is racist.
How
And youre flag on your profile picture isn’t at all bad?
What a terrible anthem

How so? It is a patriotic tune about the defense of a soveriegn nation against a tyrannical horde.
