The gold solution keeps going out of stock I will post a link when I see its available. It may be a bit expensive but it covers allot of stuff!

Wow this is such a great tutorial. Really appreciate the use of materials found around the home!! I wanted to gold plate a thick copper button on a british made mechanical vape, now I'm saved from the constant patina and washing off copper smelling fingers every half hour. In all, thank you. You are a Godsend sir.
Thank you I am very happy it helped. I am currently working on another gold plating video that should be out soon. Hope to see you then.
Cool. I started doing this in Vancouver in 1990 and did the majority of the bike and car dealerships on the mainland and the island as well as a few hundred body shops and customizing shops. I did the first Honda emblems and started BIC Canada off with their mini bics with the gold plated caps. I Also worked with a lot of jewelers and had most of the costume jewelry replating work for the merchants that set up on Robson and Granville streets. Was a fun business and did a lot of cool stuff. Only competition I had was ACME plating. Makes me want to start up again and not sell tis time.
That sounds like an adventure!
Is it possible to plate titanium with gold? I've read it's not very conductive, i was thinking of plating a titanium ring.
Your sense of humour is really good lol
Thank you
It’s golden really
Hi! Thanks for the video, I appreciate the tutorial. I'm a little confused and just want to make sure I understand. Was it the zinc strip or just the negative wire itself that was attached to the pliers holding the penny?
I have an enamel pin missing gold plating on one of the sides so I could attach the zinc (or wire) to the pin directly given I have the space to do so, correct?
I would first nickel plate it using the nickel strips, and then gold plate using the ss butter knife.
Just the wire the nickel strip is wrapped in the cotton. I might do a fallow up video on this as it was one of my first videos. Would you be interested?
Nickel will be under the chrome, no need to nickel plate after removing chrome bro. Love the video, simple house hold items
Your right silly me lol and Thank you it means allot.
Hi! Thanks for the video. I got a bit confused when you gold plated the stainless steel bullet. You first cleaned it, then nickel and then gold? Or did you skip the nickel step ? Thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed it. You do still apply Nickel to it before the gold. make sure whatever you are plating is a smooth as possible for the best outcome. The bullet was already mirror finish so it didn't require any prep.
Thanks just what i was looking for! Subbed!❤
Great to have you join us. I plan on revisiting something on this one day but we will see. :)
Can you gold over gold plate? I have a gold Cadillac emblem, it's weathered and fading. I was hoping I could touch it up.
Thank you for stopping by. Yes you can as long as not too much of the coatings are missing and make sure it is very clean.
hey I'm planning on doing this to my gun barrel, do you have an updated link for the gold plating?
I'm not sure how long it will be good for. ebay.us/dUnUDl
Hi I have a gold solution kit and wanted to know if I can hold plate my mouth jewelry and is it safe for reentry in to the mouth? Is there a cleaning process?
There is no simple answere for your question but here is a good link to start with. www.goldplating.com/blogs/news/can-you-eat-gold
Hi I have a gold solution kit and wanted to know if I can hold plate on a simple steel as in some guns parts
Yes you will want it to be a super polished surface and will need to nickel plate it first.
Could this be done on a gold metal humbucker pickup? I used Nevr-dull metal polish on the neck pickup, but stopped since taking out the tarnish would started to degrade the gold color. This on one side.... I wish not to take out the gold cover from the guitar.
I have not done it but I believe it should work. I would personally polish it with metal polish then degrease it but again haven't done that particularly.
So I have an item that is zinc. And it's plated gold. The gold plating is tarnished from cold age. Should I use the nickel plating soulation after I clean the area. Or the stainless steel? Thsnk you. And you hook up the negative to negative then positive to positive. Then on the other end of wire you only connect tool to positive? Leave negative wire dangling. Not in Use ?
I would recommend watching the video again but closer as well as check out more information on the internet. There is allot you said that doesn't fallow the video or plating process and I don't recommend you trying it in less you know what you are doing, I am glad you are interested in making something.
I have a handbag where the hardware is gold plated and quite worn. Would I have to first remove the gold plating, and then plate the whole thing? Also, I don't know how to take it off the leather, so I like your method of brushing on, instead of dipping. So you know what the base metal would be? Thanks.
If its real gold there would be no need to remove it but If its chipping I would bet its fake. If not the metal under should be ok to plate if not warn through. Brushing is way cheaper than dipping IMO.
Thank you. I was doing some research into this over the last 20 or so years. I was looking into it again some 10years ago for some jewellery pieces I made. My father and his friend gave me some good advice and I am here again thinking of a simpler and cheaper way, as this will make my pieces pop.
Many thanks for sharing.

Awesome! I really enjoy hearing I could help! I would love to see how it turns out as no one has shown me what they did yet.
Im looking to rust proof some silver soldered steel chainmail I am working on... do you guys think this is the way to go? Gold is rustproof
I'm not sure but it would look awesome!
What gauge wire did u connect to the battery holder? And I take it you need to have batteries in for it to work?
I don't remember the gauge of wire but it doesn't take much at all and yes you need batteries.
Would you mind to tell me what chemical do I need for thx gold plating?
Hello, I added a link in the description for you.
before electroplate in any way '''
''you have to clean your surface at 99.9%
Would this work on sunglasses, I have Chanel sunglasses and they are brown with the metal color silver and I’m wanting to color the metal gold to just better fit the brown together. And don’t like the silver color combo
The challenge is not knowing what the "Silver" of the sunglasses is made of. If its chrome or stainless than yes You would do the corresponding as the chrome emblem or the stainless bullet
Would this work on titanium sheets I wonder if you could spounge it with the gold solution with the electrodes attached to the sheet with a stainless steel cotton device with the gold solution.
I have no idea but would love to know if it works out and maybe could do a video about your discovery?
Thanks for the video! I'm a gun builder and I cerakote. So if I want to gold plate a black gun part that is just hardened steel, can I sandblast it, use the nickel strike, then gold plate it? Like for instance a thumb safety or Glock slide? Thanks again!
I believe so but sandblasting will be a bit of a rough finish, maybe sand it.
Wow. You are a DIY king, and even if your wife ever finds out about the missing emblem, I don't see why she would mind.
She loved it and Thank you I try my best.
So you have to strip the chrome down to nicklel to be able to plate the gold? Hmm I might try this. Thanks for the information, awesome video
Thank you
Do you have to strip the paint off of something before doing this? like if i wanted to gold plate a black airbrush would i have to strip that off first?
You can only plate to conductive surfaces. If there is nothing conductive under the paint it will not help
Is stainless steel gold-plateable? I want to do this with a 1911 barrel.
Yes the knife and bullet necklace in the video thumbnail are stainless steel just remember to still do the cleaning process where you reverse the polarity. I would love to see a picture when you are done.
I have a gold plated belt buckle were the gold is worn off/thin in places. How would it go about re-plating that, please?
It should go just fine as long as there is no finish on it and its cleaned really well. I replated a couple things with no issue.
Very informative! Will this work if I do it to jewelry made out of Pewter?
I haven't tried it. If you do please let me know.
How many dips does it take to make a stainless steel watch stay gold for years ?
I did one on my wife's Honda emblem and it has been about 2 years from when I did the recording for this video. It looks good however I do wish I would have done 2 just to be safe.
This is amazing. I am looking at gold plating some agate coaster edges? do i skip the nickel part then?
Agate does not conduct electricity so it will not plate without a conductive layer added and you would still want to nickel plate in less the part added is nickel. I am working on a video like that soon.
Thanks a tonne for replying! 2yrs later and I'm back here😂 still haven't plated a thing, and still wanting to🙈 going to attempt with a pen plating machine . Wish me luck ❤
what are a;; the chemicals you need to plate something gold i hurd you had to plate it with something else for currosion to
The chemicals are in the description and gold does not corrode.
thanks! Can't the larger Honda emblem still be plated?
Good point, Yes it can. I would clean it again and apply a fresh nickel layer however I used that opportunity to make her emblem glow in a different video.
Can anyone tell me if its possible to Re- plate gold plated items? I have gold plated drum lugs and some have lost their brightness and depth of gold plating...I bought the kit used and have no clue how come some look like the plating was worn off...its a pretty expensive drum kit. Would i need to replate them all in order to have a perfect color match? How much could it cost in material. ? each piece is approx.1 inch cube. Thank you to anyone able to help...i would truly grateful!!! i want to get top price for this amazing Vintage maple kit...but need it to be pristine condition!!!
Ill give it my best. To apply gold to gold you do not need any additional layers like nickel. You do want it to be extremely clean and free of any oil. If its not good clean it can look dull. Denatured alcohol should clean it good. after cleaning spraying it with distilled water it should not bead up. Then apply a layer to it. a one inch cube does not take allot however companies like the Gold plating services are getting cheap with the amount of gold in their produce and its constant taking more and more product to get the same result. when I did this video 25ml covered about 6"x6". You should check with them for coverage cause it can very. I'm not a pro just a hobbyist. I hope this helps.
Hey there. Great video. If I wanted to plate a 925 sterling silver chain, would that be possible? If I did this 5 times, would that be gold vermeil?
Yes and yes as far as I know. Would love it if you shared a picture when your done.
This video makes me wish I paid more attention in science class - great vid tho!!
Thank you.
If I do this on my jewelries would the colour comes off after few wears?
The more you apply it the thicker the coating will be. With a good thick layer it will not.
Would a 9v battery work? Found them on amazon with the connecting clips
I used a mine volt battery and it worked well.
Very ingenious !
Thank you it means allot!
Great video! Do you know if it’s possible to electroplate gold or silver onto nickel brass? I haven’t been able to get it to work with silver (Using a different method than this of course). Maybe through an application of a metal that will stick first? If so are there any that will also allow gold or silver to adhere on top of that?
I would think you could electroplate nickel onto brass then plate gold onto that if not maybe plate copper onto it then nickel then gold. I don't know for sire though. Nickel plating solution is pretty cheap though and Copper sulfate can be found at most stores that sell plant stuff.
@@KCreations4You thank you! This a big help. Would you recommend any books or websites on metallurgy that have been helpful for your work? I’ve found it difficult to find accurate information even from jewelers!
@@nbalfour4241 I have found it very difficult as well to find good information and sometimes when I think I did find something I don't get the same results as they did. I wanted to plate a 3d print for a video. CodysLab did a video where he put bronze on copper chainmail. Unfortunately I think its a matter of google trial and error. Wish I had a better answer.
Do you also have a smokey, black chrome plate? I a.m New to this and the best solution I saw is kind of pricey from Germnay.
I do not.
I saw that someone asked whether or not the same process would work on silver as well, in which you answered that you would try to include it in another video - I can’t seem to find that, did you ever try it out?
I have been trying to get that video to work. I have not had good success so far and it got a bit expensive so its on hold for a bit. Hoping to get it to work at some point
Thank you for this
Your welcome. My Next Video will expand on gold plating as well.
So if I wanted to gold plate plastic would I have to nickle plate it first?
I'm trying to get a video out on that but its not as straight forward as others make it out to be.
Does this procedure work if I am going to try to gold plate silver too? Great video by the way!
I have not done it yet however as far as I know yes. I believe you need to clean it the same as the chrome in the video first. I will try to include it in a video I have coming up or you can try it first on a part you don't see. Part 2 should be out in a month or two at most. Hope that helps.
Thank you for know how from thailand.
Glad I could help! Thailand wow that's awesome!
What is the Gold plating fourmla you used?
Here is the closest I can find. amzn.to/3bIbUJs
How thick of plating can you get with this process & chemicals?
Typically this process is done to .5 microns but I believe you can keep going with the process as long as you want but it would not be productive. The amount I did on the objects in the video held up very well if thats why you are wondering. If its Jewelry do more if its décor don't bother with more than a couple passes.
Can you use a gold plate instead of stainless steal to transfer the gold over?
Yes or Tungsten I believe.
"clean the stainless steel" - is that a cleaning solution or do you mean the reverse polarity bit? thanks in advance!
Both. The electrons flow to the negative carrying any solution/metal to the object however to clean it you reverse the polarity sending objects away from the object cleaning it.
What's happen when I using 20Volt electric to plating?
It will likely be discolored dark.
I like gold plating however it seems to wear off I wonder if that's typical or just a bad job with the plating?
I guess I couldn't say for sure. The plating I did held up very well on the necklace and the bread knife we use. How long did yours last?
Hello, I can't find an answer to increasing thickness of gold jewelry by plating. For example, if we make 20 microns gold plating to a gold ring 5 times. Would it be 100 microns thicker?
I would not know this either.
@@KCreations4You Thank you for your reply. Do you know whether it is possible to do gold plating on gold jewelry or not?
@@everyounghighever4126 Yes it is. If done right it makes it look brand new however a proper cleaning can do that as well. You can also replate plated jewelry that is wearing down.
@@KCreations4You Ok, thanks a lot.🙏
2:52 Why are you wrapping the cotton pad around the knife? What's it for/do?
It holds the gold plating solution.
Your gold solution is red and the link you offered has no color (I bought it already).
Also you are talking about two different methods. At the beginning you show the solution method in your explanation but then demonstrate the brush method.
Now, because of this video I bought the gold solution you offered the link to and planned to do the brush method as you demonstrated.
Also you don’t say what side is positive and negative when plating. Which goes on the knife and which goes to the penny.
In the solution method the receiving item is negative.
From what I see in the video, you say the white stripe was positive and that went to the penny (the receiver). Does the brushing method work in reverse?
Thank you, its good to know looks like the listing has changed in the last year. I will update it when they get more as looks like all are out of stock. If the product anywhere is clearly different than what you expect I would always recommend looking into it before buying it. More than likely what you bought is gold suspended in a different chemical and should work similarly however you will want to check the msds and look up all safety measures as well as contact the manufacturer. There are mainly 2 types out there and mostly the clear/blue are safer. I can't say for sure though. I made clear I am no professional and I don't know what you were redirected to and purchased. For the polarity the object being plated should be on the negative side. I mention this at 1:20 of my video if you need a time stamp. Hope this helps. Stay safe.
Hi! What gold plating soulition did you use? Thanks!
I have used a couple kinds but the good stuff is not available right now Its GoldPlateUK
You poured gold plating soulation in with the nickel soulation? How much nickel soulation did you use & how much gold soulation did you use ? Thanks so much! Great video!
Thank you. You don't mix them you use them separately. All the plating I did took 25ml gold plating and about 35ml nickel. I applied more layers to the objects that were not just decoration for a more durable finish.
@@KCreations4You how long between layers?
@@summer-np6fx A rinse with distilled water and you can right away.
Did you use all of the chemicals? I just saw you use the goldsolution and the nickelsolution, or I am completely wrong?
Yes I used the stripping solution for stripping/cleaning the chrome.
Okay So I copper electroform crystal jewelry rings and earrings will this work for that? and if so will my crystals be safe or should i seal them? Thnx so much
The crystals should be perfectly safe. make sure to put nickel on first over the copper.
@@KCreations4You Thank you sooooo much for your response!! I will heed your advice thnx again
Your welcome feel free to share what you make on my Fb page I would love to see it.
Oh cool Definitely will!
V well done Thank you
Glad to help
I don't see any negatives or positives on the objects your plating. Sorry, I'm just a plumber. This is pretty new to me.
It's understandable. At 2:39 I show how I connected it using a binder clip and the bare wire.
Can an all Stainless Steel Claddagh ring be 2 tone plated? Only some parts of the ring get 24k gold plating, and the rest of the ring stays Stainless Steel?
If possible, what would that cost on average?
Yes you would need to cover the parts you don't want plated. Vinyl might work. As far as cost that hard to estimate as it has allot of variables.
@@KCreations4You Awesome thank you! Is this something you would do? If so do you have a website?
@@DocM. No I don't sorry.
@@KCreations4You damn! Great video still!
Okay but what did your wife say? 😆 Did she like the emblems? This was a really useful, and hilarious tutorial.
Yes she did. The front one I hade glow. It took her a week to notice. Glad you enjoyed it!
sorry i didnt get it. how is it possible there's no circuit running you just rub it with the one connected on the negative then you wipe it with the one positive there's no connection how can current flow in it
The negative is connected to the object to be plated and the positive is connected to the stainless steel butter knife.
Now, most emblems are not full metal chrome. They are a plastic form with a chrominance layer ontop.. is that what you’re were? Or were they metal?
I’m trying to find ways to replace the cold parts of my watch, but I want it to come out that deep bright pure-looking-gold color…
Most of the things you presented here just look sorta yellowed..
They are plastic inside. The more layers I did the deeper the gold looked but I'm not sure how far that would go. I also do know the better the metal is prepped and smoothed the better it looked.
@@KCreations4You good to know the metalized coating is enough to get some electroplating going.
Hello ser haw kamical crant amp polish kemicul nam plz
My computer can't translate this so let me try. The chemical is in the description when it's available but it's a gold aqua regia. I would only use it if you know what you are doing. The amperage is kept low and that's why I used batteries they self-regulate pretty well. I used 9v or 4AA batteries. Hope that helps.
I've a set of darts I'd love to gold plate but they are 90% tungsten would that work? Also what would the wear be like ?
I believe you can use the same process as the chrome but not 100% I haven't done tungsten yet. As far as wear I have done necklaces and would recommend 3 layers or more depending how much you are going to use it. A necklace with 3 layers seems to last for a few years before needing touch up. A dart may be more wear as I think you twist in a throw? Once you have it plated allot of jewelers will touch it up for a reasonable price. For a ring my wife wears it was I think 60$ and looked new again.
@@KCreations4You thx for your reply. The darts hit off each other when they hit the board sometimes that's what I'd be worried about. Probably not worth it unless they where for show. Last ? Sorry. How much would it cost for me to do this to 3 darts they only 50mm long 6mm thick
@@ds2985 You wouldn't need allot of gold plating solution to do them. I believe in the video I had 25ml and gold plated way more that three darts. I see some small amounts on ebay for $50 but I would be concerned now that scams are at an all time high. I reordered the same stuff I used in the video a little while ago and it was watered down sorta speak. I didn't think about the darts hitting each other and I don't have a clue how they would hold up.
@@KCreations4You no problem thx again maybe I'll give it a go.

Will the cyanide harm you? What precautions do you need to take
cyanide can be harm to you however if you take basic safety precautions it can be a safe process. As mentioned in the video have some sort of vent hood, good pair of chemical resistant gloves and safety glasses. I am not an expert just a hobbyist so I encourage you to look up a safety data sheet and do some research. After about 30 minutes of studying I was comfortable to do the project and I shy at chemicals. Hope this helps and live life at your own risks. 😄
How do you strip the chrome off of a car emblem?
With the chrome stripping solution and positive on the emblem.
@@KCreations4You ok thank you for the reply
in india any cheap alternatives r there??
Not that I know of sorry:(
Hey,great video
But does plating work on plastic or only metal
Only on Metal or Plastic that is coated in metal like the car emblem. I have been trying off to find a good way of doing plastic but non of the ones on CZcams or forums have a good result. They may look good for the camera but that to me is like false advertising. I do have high hopes in this last trial but we will see.
A complete written supply list plus a diagram of your actual set up (not just the general whiteboard one) would be super useful. “And in the other case, we’re connecting this piece of pure zinc” ????? What other case? And you connected the wire to the locking pliers to ‘hold the penny better’ ????
I have committed to only going into so many details as too many details lead to too much confusion and questions. I am looking at revisiting this and will be able to do more justice as it was one of my first videos.
Hi, where can i buy that gold plating solution ?? Or is it selmade ??
I thought about making some in a future video but for now its bought. I usually have a link in the description if its available.
Can I gold plate rims just as easy?
Same process but you would be there for a very very long time and it would cost allot. It is also harder on bigger objects to keep them as clean as you need to keep impurities out.
How long does the plating last please ?
Is all depends how many layers and what you use it for. Two layers on emblem would be years and years but on jewelry may only be a couple years if used every day so I would recommend 3 or 4 layers then. for decorations that are not handled I would say one good layer could last a lifetime. (I have not tested that yet) Hope that helps.
I have a pretty severe nickel allergy. Is there a substitute?
From my research you can plate to Copper and brass. I have not done it at home to know it is works easily at home. I have been trying a plating project and was going to try it but am struggling with a different part. Cant say when or if that video will make it out but hope so as I bought the gold already.
Can you share the website where I can buy your solution.
I have it in the description.
Is it possible to do this over plastic?
It is if you apply a conductive pain. I was actually looking up products and thinking of doing a video on it in the future.
@@KCreations4You Right on. That would be great!
You only used the positive wire. Nothing connected to (red)?
I'm holding one wire to the object and the other is on the object I'm using to apply (Butter knife/Nickel strips) the polarity depends on if your applying a coating or stripping. Think of it as the materiel is going to the negative side. I'm sorry I didn't explain it better as it was one of my first videos. I am looking at doing another video but on non conductive objects in the future.
If you gold plate a knife can you eat with it?
As far as everything I have read yes however it it is gold so it would wear very fast. I would recommend you do some research first though just to be confident yourself in your decision.
Wait I know I sound dumb but I'm confused on how exactly you are gold plating it? You never mentioned in the video that you're using gold or not. 🤔Plz message back.
Yes to gold plate you need a gold plating solution it does contain real gold I update the description every few months if it becomes available for the stuff I like. After the pandemic allot of watered down stuff is out there.
"Aaannnd told the wife nothing" 😂
Muahahah
What will happen if I burn a golden bracelet and then dip a fake ring into the gold?
I think if you burn a gold bracelet it will turn to a molten puddle of gold and if you dip a fake ring into it that would make the ring gold plated and a real ring but thats my thoughts. 😄
I think I recognize some Harbor Freight Tools needle nose pliers there.
They might very well be. I don't treat myself to expensive tools often. Now the teeth are gold so I can't part with them lol
Is the final coat Real GOLD plated?
Yes
Lmfao. You definitely made laugh a few times

Oh no! You want gold not reddish brown.
2 years later you made me laugh.
Probably rusted due to the iron

Anyone know how ‘fake’ gold ‘plating’ is done on plastics?
I know of one way is gold leafing.
How to make gold solution?

That is a good idea. I think I would use a spray can of clear coat if I want an even layer. The emblem has been on the car sense a year before the video was released and still looks good a little dull maybe.
