You Can Smell the Clutch Burning in the car! | Habits to avoid for a new driver Mock test

  • This is Shanie, she started learning to drive with an instructor but she’s done most of her driving with her mum.
    She wanted to do a mock test with me to see if she needed to work on anything and improve her skills. She’s a really good driver but she’s picked up a few habits as he's no been driving with an instructor
    She’s got great awareness and planning with most of her driving.
    Watch how she does in this mock test!
    She has a habit of waiting at the biting point and this was causing the clutch to start burning to the point we could smell it in the car.
    Her previous instructor always taught her to drive like this and its got her into a bit of a habit.
    After I highlighted this issue she was fully aware of how to fix it and did really well thereafter
    Thank you all for your continued support

    When you are on urban dual-carriageways 30/40 mph with bus stops not having laybys everybody is flowing about the same speed in both lanes. There will be only five miles per hour difference in the two lanes. So you can move out early on if you spy a stopped bus and establish yourself in lane two. Only a smallish gap and signal will be required. If you slow down, the difference in your speed and lane two lane flow speed will be much greater and a bigger gap will be need to get into lane two. If you end up stopped behind the bus the speed difference might be 30/40 mph and if you are tight behind the bus an angled move off will mean an even bigger gap is needed. Even experienced drivers end up waiting until the bus moves off because they haven't got this sorted out.

    Should have been in neutral with clutch up and either brake down or handbrake on
    Or you could stay in first with clutch and brake down if your practiced and able to use clutch and brake with the same foot and increase throttle but only do this if you know your moving soon otherwise you will screw up your ankle

    Watching videos, such as this, where learner drivers drive really well save for one or two errors reminds me how much worse people drive once they've passed.
    I swear 95%+ of drivers would not pass a test if made to retake it. Cannot tell you the number of times I am cut up on roundabouts in a day - often intentionally and without signalling.

      Its actually understandable as the TEST is Extremely unrealistic to everyday driving and ONLY focus is on safety. Also, The roads are forever changing, getting busier, locals know the roads versus new to the area people. The different capablities of one driver to the next (one could be great at judging distance and speed closure...the other better at posistioning) The amount of variables on the roads makes everyday driving far too unpredictable. You would need EVERY single driver to be identical for the roads to function properly. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.

      @@ClearviewDriving 1)When we are driving in a narrow road and while turning first we have to brake (or) we have to press the clutch while turning?
      2) Suppose we are driving in 4 or 5th gear Suddenly anyone crosses / come infront of us We have to PRESS THE BRAKE (OR) WE HAVE TO PRESS THE CLUTCH ( OR) BOTH OF THAT

    • @ClearviewDriving
      @ClearviewDriving  Před 2 lety +4

      @@pradeeshgilly hey when turning at slow speeds into a narrow road. Start with the brake but if the car is struggling or it’s too slow then you should use the clutch and change gear. (2nd gear usually struggles less than 10mph) also depends on your car
      Driving at high speeds if anything happened you should always start with the brake and only speeds the clutch down once you’re slow enough to need a gear change
      So travelling at 50mph in 5th gear
      You can usually slow down up to 25mph anything less than that and the car will start to struggle
      The minimum in each gear works in 5’s
      The car slows much quicker when you use the brake along as there’s foot brake and engine brake working :)
      Hope that’s helps

    • @LogRol
      @LogRol Před 2 lety +5

      That is up to the car how it behaves. Usually disel cars do not require gas to start with clutch control, although petrol ones are easy to stall if no gas is given.

    • @ClearviewDriving
      @ClearviewDriving  Před 2 lety +4

      Most new cars will autorev so it’s easier to move without but always try to use 1.5 revs when trying to move off
      Petrol cars are more likely to stall without the accelerator.

      Nope someone needs to seriously teach that girl how drive manual 5 speed properly

    • @DareDevilPhil
      @DareDevilPhil Před 2 lety +2

      You have to do very slow starts without revs, and while plenty cars with decent torque won't stall if you come off the clutch a little too fast, it'll chew the clutch a tiny bit since really that's what's allowing the engine not to stall.
      Until recently I'd driven the same car for extended periods of time since passing, so I adjusted my manual driving habits to each car. However, the past year or so I've been driving a few different cars and some irregularly - I've found the easiest way to drive any manual car both reasonably quickly and smoothly is just to rev to where the engine begins to deliver some decent torque and then pause on the bite point until the clutch is no longer needing to slip. While the clutch is slipping just use the throttle to keep the RPM at the point you started, i.e. roll into it a little.

    I think it's crazy that instructors don't have to have basic box standard controls in their learner cars... unless you or your family are rich I don't know any new driver that could afford to have all these mod cons in a first car... how many new drivers forget to pull the handbrake lever because they have learned in a top of the range car with auto handbreak or different handbreak. Also this car has parking assist.!! with reverse facing camera.. what's the point of learning with that of course your gona get a perfect parking position lol.. these cars are designed to make life easier but when your leaning, it's meant to be about doing it all yourself so when u pass and drive alone you can still do all these manovers without all this expensive extras...I guarantee it has hill start assist also so no rolling back, I dunno... but anyway this is just my opinion dont come for me lol I think this stuff actually hinders new drivers, and maybe they don't use these In lessons but they where all used in this mock 😑

      In this case it wasn’t a big issue as no one was affected behind us with her waiting
      She could have taken potential gaps but she didn’t affect anyone and was waiting for both sides to be clear
