  • This is a video of me doing a parallel park using the 1:2:1 method.
The method just involves steering once to the left then twice to the right then finally once to the left hence 1:2:1
There are many different amounts of steering you can do to achieve the same result.
Below is a few different amounts of steering you could try when parallel parking.
    1/2 : 1 : 1/2 ( big space )
    1 : 2 : 1 ( medium space )
    1 1/2 : 3 : 1 1/2 ( small space )

The 1-2-1 method is the best one for this, and the one I use and have been taught by my instructor. Thanks :)

There are many choices in terms of how much to steer but basically the more steering you do the more control of the vehicle you need.
I generally teach the 1/2 : 1 : 1/2 which is the same method but with only half the amount of steering....
We both achieve the same result and that's all that matters.

I only go as far as the front of the rear door before manoeuvring. Works for me.

The reason I teach people to come back that far is to ensure that the front of your car doesn't get anywhere near the parked car as you swing back in.
If your way works then that's fine too 👍🏻

Thank you for the video, this maneuver is difficult for me. Im okay at the beginning it is just when to do the 2 right turns.

Hi Paul, people often struggle with this as you are trying to control the car slowly whilst turning a bit quicker and often the car goes quicker too which is where the problem is
I have another video with half of the steering which is really helpful.
I've also got a video on parking tips where you see what I see in the mirror and how I deal with what I see happening.
Hopefully you nail it when needed

Look at the video on parking tips.
People talk about a pizza slice.
It's the bit between the kerb and the car at the point the car is angled towards the kerb.
      Hope that helps.

If on the driving test you come back further than two car lengths are you allowed to drive forward?

    • @Martin_DrivingADI
      @Martin_DrivingADI  Před 3 měsíci

Don't go back further than 2 car lengths as that would be outside of what they ask but yes you can definitely 100% go forward if needed 👍🏻

Many thanks Martin for your very quick and helpful reply. Really like the way you explain things.

No , in the examiners mind there is a car 2 car lengths behind the front car = so that would be like hitting the invisible car then moving forward, just stop earlier + pull forward + back if needed , just not go far back , hope that helps , good luck with everything 👋
