  • In today's episode of Cinque Terre hike we hiked through the towns Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia and Manarola in Italy.
So that big day came when we finally were going to hike the official Cinque Terre trail along the coast from Monterosso to Riomaggiore. The trail was consisting of several parts few kilometers each going from one small coastal village to the other and is believed to be one of the most beautiful and unusual coastal walks to take. We tried to wake up as early as possible and started the day with taking the train from Levanto to Monterosso. So we got from Levanto to Monterosso by train which was only 7 minutes and were out to discover the trail. The trail started going uphill with plenty of stairs to go through and it was quite hard. We were passing by many vineyards on the sides of the hills and sometimes the trail opened up for the great seaside views…

We are a couple who once fell in love with mountains and couldn't get back. So we decided to follow our heart and move from a big city to a small village to be able to do what we love and to create this content. Our goal is to promote the healthy lifestyle, to motivate people to travel more and care for nature around. We are passionate walkers who love hiking, trekking and camping. We offer the detailed information of our hikes and routes, including the map and all the directions, so that you can repeat it if you'd like to.
We choose walking over driving and other types of transportation whenever we can because we learnt that this way we see so much more and can explore and feel the place better. Walking is an excellent activity that has so many benefits to your health and requires no special equipment or practice, so we encourage you to get the most out of it and get out walking.

Hello, our friends! This week we are sharing with you the last episode of Cinque Terre Hike. We ended up being a bit disappointed because half of the trail was closed for maintenance but anyway we enjoyed our whole hiking experience in the area. Have you ever been to Cinque Terre? What was your experience?

I have been to Cinque Terra but it was too hot to walk the azzuro trail. Thank you for sharing your experience. This was five years ago and the trail was also closed then from a landslide. We loved the little towns, each with their own personality, and the food was quite good…the gelato…not so much. Thank you again for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed it! This is an interesting area to explore. Yes, it was too hot for us also in July and the closed parts seem to remain closed up till now.

Your video was very informative. I did some of the trails many years ago. I'm going again next year and have friends there at present that were asking me about the trails. Lots of good tips from you and a reminder about how tough some of the tracks are. Thanks

Thank you so much for your comment. Glad you found it useful. That's a pity they still didn't open the trails in whole integrity.

The ticket was worth it for the train, toilets and wifi at station, especially since the closed trails are not likely to open any time soon. The villages were charming in spite of the crowds this year

Glad to hear you enjoyed your time there! The trails have been closed for years now, hope they plan on opening them some time soon.

Your video brings back great memories of our hiking in Cinque Terre. The metal rails you mentioned are used by farmers to transport grapes etc. up and down the steep hillsides. We visited in October when the trails were much quieter, only meeting a handful of people each day. Riomaggiori to Manorola was closed due to a landslide, but there are two higher trails which make walking there possible - just a lot more steps and climbing involved 😆. Once up on the top trail, the walking was mainly flat before we dropped down to the towns. We made the most of the extra effort and distance, stopping for drinks in the villages of Groppo & Volastra. Both villages have links to the trails below leading down to the coast. We had the luxury of a week in Riomaggiori to explore the area. We bought the trail pass tickets at the tourist office, but never came across a kiosk that was open. That said, due to the additional walking we did some days, we didn’t drop down into the coastal villages till around 5/6 pm in the evening. We plan to return some time in the future to do it all again. Thank you for sharing your trip 🙏 great to see it all again.

Thank you so much for your comment and sharing your hiking story. It will be very helpful for other viewers too. We wish we had more time to spend at the Cinque Terre coast and stay there longer in one of the towns. We love to do that whenever we can, this way you get to experience the local life quite a bit more. Thanks for the tip about the trail detour, we weren't aware of that.
