SKYLINE TRAIL TO CAMP MUIR: MOUNT RAINIER’S BEST HIKE & MOST COMPLETE WAY TO EXPERIENCE THE PARK

- Hiking the Skyline Trail to Camp Muir in Mount Rainier National Park is at the top of many hikers bucket list and for good reason. The Skyline Trail hike to Camp Muir is as close as a hiker can get to the taste of a true alpine climbing adventure. The hike up to Camp Muir straddles the fine line between hiking and climbing. Skyline trail to Panorama Point in-itself is as good as it gets but adding on the extra milage and elevation gain to Camp Muir is absolutely worth it! From Camp Muir you get a close-up view that few visitors to the park ever see. Hanging glaciers, towering seracs, yawning crevasses, and numerous rockfall as the ridge high above melt and crumble in the heat of the sun. Be sure to come prepared with seasonal gear as Mount Rainier's weather is always changing. The hike and climb up to Camp Muir via Paradise Visitor Center and Skyline Trail is a must when visiting Mount Rainier National Park.

Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. 👍78
Thanks for visiting
Great vid, as always Matt! Epic views, cloud inversion, and snow fields FTW!!!
Thanks me boy!
Love being above the clouds on a mountain!
Yes sir! It was something special, a first for us that trip 👍🏼
This was awesome!! Those views are insanely beautiful. Trip of a lifetime right there. It’s always tough getting to a summit, but it’s always worth it.
Thanks! Rainier is unexplainable! What a perfect NP, Cheers!
Great video!!! How long ago do you and your family do the hike?? Didn’t seem like much snow at Muir. My wife and I are planning to go up there in a couple of weeks.

Love your channel. I'm planning a traverse of the majority of the Tatoosh range for a little later this summer. Tatoosh lake to blue lake and then down to bench and snow lake and ending at reflection lake in MRNP. I think you've inspired me to make a video of the trip.
You have to do it Josh! You’ll be so glad you did it a few years from now. My advice though…. Be in the moment with your family as much as possible 😁👍🏼🤩
@@TheMountainMatt we hike as a family every Friday but once a year I take a big trip on my own. I’ve been a filmmaker for years but never recorded my hikes.
I think it’s time brother 😀
Unreal hike . Was at paradise over Labor Day and it was snowing and freezing rain . Coming from the east coast it was quite the shock to realize how late in the year winter persist on Rainier . Will be back one day when the weather is better hopefully !
We were there in August 2023. They had sunny weather in spring from the get go last year. We got so lucky with the clouds giving way like they did while we were out there. On our off day everything was socked in with clouds. Definitely try to get back in the future 👍🏼
Also had to ask , got any recommendations in Yosemite and/or kings canyon / Sequoia ?
We actually cut our teeth in Yosemite when the girls were very young. Mist Trail is a must. Try to get all the way to Vernal and Nevada Falls, they’re both gorgeous. Upper Yosemite Falls is great as well. If you have time go to the Hetch Hetchy part of the park is quieter and gorgeous as well. Haven’t been to Kings/Sequoia yet but I’ve researched the Mineral King area and it looks amazing!
Famous words, are we there yet! Keep the videos coming, Matt. Always looking forward to the next one
I know right 🤣! Thanks man, I’m glad you’re following along 👍🏼
@TheMountainMatt you got a great channel going and happy to see this grow. I snapped my leg on my last hike and will be living through your channel for the next three months
Dude! Where were you and how did you get down!?
Round Mountain Darrington wa. Winter route! That's the way to go if you ask me. Suprised not many do it.
SAR came and air lifted me to Providence medical.
That's horrible I hope you recover quickly! I can't even imagine! I know the area well, looking at Whitehorse Mountain someday.
New subscriber Sir.i love watching you and your family hiking together.watching from tacoma,❤️🫶❤️
Hi Helen! I'm glad you're watching 😁 it means a lot to us that people enjoy our adventures! Emily and I are headed back to your neck of the woods in a couple months actually, cheers!
@@TheMountainMatt can't wait for the next video.and I hope I can see your family in person so I can have a picture.🫶❤️
Maybe we’ll see you out on the trail someday 😃
@@TheMountainMatt I wish 😆
I stopped before the Muir snowfield a couple of times. As long as you have spikes, and trekking poles, I'm assuming it's pretty safe? Any danger of potholing, or is the snow hard enough the whole way?
That was the end of August 2023. It was exceptionally warm the entire summer last year. The snow was packed well so micro spikes were all we needed. I heard there is a lot of snow up high still. I’d check reviews of the trail on AllTrails app or similar apps or stop at a ranger station and check conditions. We felt completely comfortable going up when we did. Post holing would add all kinds of trouble.
I wish your videos were longer.
Thanks, trust me I could make them an hour long but nobody would watch 🤣
@TheMountainMatt lol. We would. 😀
😊 thanks!

Thanks. That was August 2023. I don't get around to editing videos until the winter unfortunately.
