THE MOST INCREDIBLE VIEWS IN WASHINGTON'S NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK: SUMMITING ELDORADO PEAK

- Hiking and climbing Eldorado Peak "Queen of the Cascade River" offers some of the best if not the best views in the entire State of Washington. The adventure to the summit gives the feeling of a true alpine mountaineering experience. Eldorado Peak's craggy profile help remind hikers of the Himalayan like splendor owing to its remoteness, position, and knife-edge summit ridge. Glacier travel is guaranteed and climbing knowledge is a must in order to summit Eldorado Peak. This mountain experience can be split up into two days or by summiting in one very long day. This adventure and views throughout are by far the most beautiful I have ever witnessed. Washington's North Cascades National Park "American Alps" is one of the least visited National Parks in the United States but will probably change in the near future.

I did this in June of this year and it's amazing how different this area is late season. For us it was solid snowpack starting from above the boulder field. I had no idea that everything past the notch was solid rock.
I know right! Ben was also attempting it late May and had to flip due to waist high snow and nonstop post-holing. Our last push was some serious climbing but super fun!
While this was posted in May it looks very, very different from the ski trip I did in April. I'm guessing you shot this video in August or September. Safe travels!
Yes sir 👍🏼 … late August 2023. It take me awhile to get videos edited and uploaded. Cheers!
Man. So different than when my friends and I climbed it maybe 20 years ago. No scrambling up high. All glacier and snow. And the snow knife edge ridge finish to the summit was spectacular. (We actually had to belay one guy at a time out to the actual summit because it was corniced). Still incredibly beautiful though. Thanks for sharing.
So crazy how much snow has melted! I was hoping for that snow knife edge summit. BJ told me the other day he had to turn around after the notch because there was waste high snow. Post holing like crazy. Sounds like this past winter helped some.
First climbed Eldorado in 1967 as a neophyte teenager. There sure was more of a glacier back then. I’ve approached from Hidden Lake peaks trail which is a bit longer, but less elevation gain and pretty scenic. Nice vid! 😊
I bet that’s crazy to see the difference from then to now! I was kinda hoping to cross the famous “snow” knife edge on the way up to the summit but that final push was a super fun scramble and climb. BJ has been up there multiple times and he said that we were on the actual summit. He was trying to explain to us that when Eldo is snow covered, he thought the knife edge lead to a different area. Who knows 🤔. Heading back out there in August for some more Cascade adventures. So pumped! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment!
Holy smokes!!! My man another banger. We seriously live for your uploads Matt. We watch lots of these types of videos and yours are by far the best dude. You’re the best in the game
Thanks so much! I have so much fun filming and editing these vids for people, might be a little obsessed 🤣. I'm so glad they resonate with you! Comments like this help with the grind, CHEERS! 😁
@@TheMountainMatt we base a lot of our vacations off your videos. Even our 1yr old sits n watches your stuff with us.
Awesome! Train them young 👍🏼 😂 . The younger the better, when they get older the don't even understand that the hikes they're doing are difficult for most.
It's true!!
This gave me flashbacks to 10th mountain mountaineering school. The glassier climbing was the scariest thing because of the crevasses. You gave me morning dose of boosted adrenaline! Keep on keeping on Matt!
Yes buddy! Those crevasses are something else when you’re way out in the backcountry. So glad I could help trigger that memory for you! 😁
Wow, that was amazing! Quite an adventure and amazing views! Thanks for posting this.
We had perfect conditions and perfect companionship that helped lead to an incredible all day experience! Thanks so much for watching!
Incredible achievement here Matt. Another banger buddy. Keep climbing
Thank you! We had an incredible all day experience out there. 👍🏼
Hey Matt & Dalton checking in from the flatlands of Florida. I'm thankful for all the Vids you and your family put out on your channel. Unbelievable beauty. You have taken this 78 yr old on hikes I cannot phamtom undertaking. THANK YOU Rich
Absolutely Rich! We’re so glad you’re down there in beautiful Florida enjoying our adventures. We’re greatly blessed and appreciate people like you tuning in👍🏼😁!
Wow what a view and appreciate you taking people with you through the amazing work of videoing 🤘🏻
That view blew my mind 🤯 I really appreciate that comment and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I absolutely love documenting our adventures and bringing them to people who might enjoy the same type of experience. Cheers!
Amazing. I'm thinking of a Mel Gibson quote from Braveheart: "Every man dies. Not every man really lives." You and your family live life the right way. We should all be so lucky.
🤣 I had my girls watch that movie for the first time a short time ago! Thank you so much!
What a treat that you got it on such a beautiful day.
I Know right! It was crap for 3 days before that. We had to leave the following day.
Watching this makes me happy I chose to ski it in the spring.
Hell yeah! A LOT more snow then that's for sure 🤣
Great video, well captures your strenuous climb. Looking for your other recordings too.
Thank you for watching! I'm excited to share the next bunch of vids over the summer. Super pumped for the adventures I have planned over the summer and fall as well! I just hope my body holds up 🤣
I love the video quality, what camera are you using?
Thanks! I currently shoot with a GH5 and a couple different lenses depending. I also have a dedicated iPhone 14 Pro Max for whoever is with me and they’re willing to get some shoots. Also, a couple GoPros for POV shots and those sketchy areas.
Love your videos! Inspiring me to get up to explore the Northern Cascades more (I'm in Oregon.) And one technical question: what cameras do you use?
Thanks Ryan! N Cascades are probably my new favorite mountains. Ya gotta get up there 👍🏼. I currently shoot with a GH5 and a couple different lenses depending. I also have a dedicated iPhone 14 Pro Max for whoever is with me and they’re willing to get some shoots. Also, a couple GoPros for POV shots and those sketchy areas.
@@TheMountainMatt thanks! And smart with the iPhone for ease of use. Keep crushing it
Exactly 👍🏼 got big plans for this summer!
Epic video, I have come to expect nothing less. Great job, as always providing outstanding content on your channel. The cascades blow me away every time I watch them on your videos. I know its not easy making them, so thank you for all the blood, sweat, and tears 😅
Thank you Jason! Going to be hard to keep one upping the next but I'll keep trying 😁. I have an amazing summer scheduled so I'm pumped for those to eventually come out 😃! Thanks so much for that confidence boosting comment 👍🏼 sometimes I wonder if anyone is watching.🤣
@TheMountainMatt you're welcome. Looking forward to watching your next adventure. They are always outstanding!!
Thanks again man, I appreciate ya!
beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
This is awesome! Looks like I’ll have to add it to our to-do list. Was this in early September? Doesn’t look like May in the Cascades…
Yes it's definitely a must do out there 👍🏼! That was the last week of August, 2023. A very warm summer. Heading back out there in August for more, can't wait! Cheers!
Was this actually filmed i May 2024? It is absolutely shocking to see the glacier all broken-up and crevassed like that. it bears almost no resemblance to the time I climbed in in 2014. It looks like it might have been filmed in late September, not in May.
You're pretty much spot on! That was back in the last week of August, 2023. It takes me a few months to get everything edited and uploaded.
It is alarming how much snow/ice has melted. As far as I can remember, Eldorado Peak is famous of its knife edge snow travel to the top. But it is all gone now!
Looks like a La Niña could take care of that for 2025 🤞🏼
great video. how recent was this?
Thank you. Last week of August 2023.
"there is always a false summit. Always." I tell myself that all the time.
I know right! Can’t wait for my next one 👍🏼 cheers!
Was this climb recent? I know it was posted recently but everything looks so melted
I'm always a few months behind with getting the videos edited and uploaded. That particular day was back at the end of August, 2023
Thanks for the quick reply man! Great video!
Absolutely 👍🏼 thanks!
Btw... BJ attempted Eldo a week or two ago and sent me a picture of him in thigh high snow. Post holing the entire way. They turned around shortly after the notch.
Ok thank you
How do you get down??
Step by step… it was brutal. Completely fried at the woods on the way out. We got out in the dark and barely made it to a restaurant in Marblemount that was still open! Crashed immediately when we got to our rental 🤣
date of ascent please😇🤘🏻
Last week of August 2023
@@TheMountainMatt Alrighty thank you!
Absolutely 👍🏼
the views from Sahale are way better
I bet the views are amazing! I think I’ll go for Sahale again someday. So close but no cigar 😫! Cheers!
Mediocre Amateur runner up! Also, didn't realize Eldorado was an 14+hr roundtrip - damn!
I’ll take that as a compliment 🤣 … probably could get cut down to 12 hrs or so with shorter stops, no issues along the way, a quicker summit celebration and no filming. A great day nonetheless.
I really love your content and the quality of your video matters, what kind of camera do you use ?
Thanks you! I shoot with a GH5 with a 12-35 mainly. I have GoPros for POV shots and older vids. Last year I bought a iPhone 14 Pro Max for whoever goes out on adventures with me and wants to get some extra shots. The drone is an older original Mavic Air.
