- East Kilbride is celebrating the 75th anniversary of being designated a New Town.
A village has existed in the area for hundreds of years, but it was officially upgraded on May 6, 1947 as part of Scotland’s regeneration following the Second World War.
It was created to provide living space away from cramped conditions in parts of Glasgow, which thousands of families decided to swap for a new life in South Lanarkshire.
