    This film produced for the Development Corporation in the Sixties includes the opening of the 3000th house, Murray and Maxwelltown Primaries and Duncanrigg High School, Royal visits and Prime Minister Harold McMillan

    I lived in Mains East from 1952 until I emigrated to Australia in 1963. The film brings back many happy memories.

    That was awesome!! I lived in EK from 1959-1963 and remember well the Hype of the Queens visit. I remember her car and her yellow outfit she wore as well as where she unveiled the Plaque. I loved those roundabouts, we could go anywhere without crossing a main road = super safe!!! Memories

    Thank you for your comment, the film 'East Kilbride - Going to Town' (which is also on this channel) was released in 1977 and has a section looking aty the development of housing and the 12,000th family to move in from Glasgow. It does not have much footage of the actual house-building

    myself, since scottish schools avoided the subject. My childhood nationalist hate subsided to a more mature understanding, of history the royals...but westminister ...still sucks :-) england is beautiful and after being in the prescence of the princess royal..such a lovely woman. I'm a fan of the royals, though weary of westminister x
