    Just added the Behringer mx400 to my board and I'm stunned by it completely replaced my guitar amp. Lost some roar but I can control a lot more in a live situation especially when confronted by challenging sound men that just don't get the 2 amps set up.
    Thanks for showing me this little baby

    +Eric Soler hi Eric! The JOYO California sound is a cheap clone of the SansAmp California if you want to have a look at that. If you like the JOYO sound and want to get rid of the um, then you could get a noise reduction pedal instead. Otherwise simple guitar distortions work well too, you just don't have as much control over the EQ. I personally use the SansAmp GT2 (check out my more recent vids for examples) because it's more versatile, but it's more expensive. Hope that helps! :)

      KyleEssiambre thanks for the great feedback man, much appreciated :) City of Delusion definitely has a great sound to try and replicate! The closest I've got so far is using the Boss LS2 to make 2 parallel effects loops, putting distortion in one channel and auto wah in the other. It's not exactly right by any means, but you can see what it sounds like in this video: czcams.com/video/TtyQBC9DKaE/video.html The wah is about 4 mins in. Let me know what you think!

    Hey, I've been watching all your channel videos, I'm thinking of buying a setup like this, but in thomman cannot find the Beringer I guess it is no longer avaliable, do you still recommend this one as a cheap option to the micro POG or do you know any other one?

    Hi Alex my bassist friend has just the 1 amp and already has the boss me50b effects pedal but wondering what extra pedals he could get to use with that to create this sound as it already has pitchshifter on it,any help? Next vid Maybe?

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety

      Hi Danny! Erm, I've not used the ME50b but the key to achieving this effect is to makes sure the pitch shifted signal is distorted and the bass signal is left clean. I guess the pitch shifter on the ME50b will allow you to blend the +1 Octave into the overall sound, but I doubt it would be able to apply distortion to just the +1 octave on its own. Look into that first, but if you can't, then you would have to send 2 signals out of the pedal (if possible) and blend them together using something like the mixer or Boss LS2...

    What would be a good alternative to the behringer us 600, could i use a behringer UO-300? The us600 is basically impossible to find.

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety +1

      Not the UO300 - that's a clone of the Boss OC3, which only does octave down. You need a pedal that does +1 octaves, and unfortunately most of them are expensive. My personal preference is to have an ABY pedal to split the signal (like the EHX SwitchBlade+) and have the Mooer Tender Octaver do the pitch shifting. It's pretty much a micro POG clone. Have a look at this video to compare the two: czcams.com/video/gx54GsoAb4Q/video.html

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 7 lety

      +YELLOW_LAD hey! No you'll be fine - people only talk about this stuff hurting amps because the guitar amp speakers can't handle the larger vibrations that bass speakers have to make. The other way round is fine, but it won't sound quite so clear as a guitar amp :)

People that are streaming these videos to a smart tv or chromecast or other device can't click on the links that pop up in the video. or you could just use boss LS2 line selector which can combine 2 loops into 1 output then u don't need the swotchblade & the mixer. put the effects in one loop and the clean signal in another loop. it also can adjust the level of both loops to mix

  • @alexblack101
    @alexblack101 Před 6 lety +2

    As you only need to isolate the guitar solos for some parts in RB songs, I would connect it like this: bass to Behringer US600 to split signal and send wet signal A to JOYO and clean signal B to your pedal tuner. then both signals (from JOYO and a tuner) to the Behringer FX600 just to use its clean B output and get both former signals to the amp together. then use tuner to mute bass for certain parts.
    (All stomp boxes could be powered from the same 9V source, as opposed to that Behringer mixer you got there)
    Just my two cents, looks cleaner to me this way :) BTW., could also skip the FX600 and plug clean output from tuner to input and dirty one to the FXloop on your amp, this could put it on another level and make it "one pedal cheaper" solution.

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Alexander! Great ideas there - yes you're right, RB only really cut the bass and have the guitar on all the time. Your suggestion works really well for that (see my earlier videos for that setup with 2 amps rather than using the FX loop :)
      I just found that not having independent control over both sounds was a bit restrictive - especially being a bass player and not having the option to just play bass - that led me to the ABY solution, but you're right, in this video the mixer isn't an elegant solution. If the +1 octave signal was going back to the bass amp FX loop (rather than a guitar amp), then you could just switch the octave and amp sim off without fear of damaging speaker cones. I would like to try the FX loop idea, but my AD200 doesn't have one.
      Thanks for sharing! :)

    • @alexblack101
      @alexblack101 Před 6 lety +1

      My mate and me are going to do a little RB project on the side, so I really appreciate your tips on pedals like US600 and JOYO, because when I saw the price tag of the POG and additional costs for some distortion it was just too much for a little project. I will definitely buy those two and try it with my Korg Pitchblack tuner and my Spyder 550 amp which luckily has an effects loop. Those pedals sounded great in your video and are really cheap, can't wait to try it!

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety +1

      I know exactly what you mean - I really like the Mooer Tender Octaver for reliable octave shifting, and am using it instead of the POG for my next video. The only problem is that it doesn't have 2 outputs. Just note that the JOYO California Sound can create some terrible hum if you're not careful!
      Have fun with it and let me know how you get on :)

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 3 lety

      The switchblade+ doesn't do anything except control which channels your signal is sent down so it would sound exactly the same :) having said that, I think he uses a more complicated switcher that controls 3 or 4 sounds at once so you'd need to work out how it would fit in with all that

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety

      Z-Zack yes, the US600 is a clone of the Boss PS6 - the PS6 has a feature called S-Bend, which is a pre-programmed whammy, in either pitch direction, which is why you only ever used to see him stomp, rather than use a foot rocker to change pitch. On the US600 it's called flutter I think. Not sure on the name of the mode, but it's definitely there :)

      Hi Conor! I try to keep the wiring as simple as possible so that there's less scope for interference and noise in the signal. In this setup I use:
      2 standard length cables (one from Bass to ABY pedal and one from mixer out to amp)
      1 reasonably long patch cable to go from ABY output B to the mixer
      3 short patch cables to connect ABY, US600, JOYO and mixer in a chain.

    question, i am trying to find a cheaper option for the boss ls2? because i want to mix 2(or 3 maybe) different sounds for my bass and i only want to use one amp, will the mixer do the job or it has to be the ls2? lets say a drive in once chanel and the clean signal in the other and possibly an octaver in the third one, will it "blend" all the signals according to level that i would like to assign to each one?. i have aradial big shot efx that i can use to split the signal and send 2 separate lines to the mixer and the to the amp, will this combination do the job?..i m kind of new on this pedal thingy....

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 8 lety +1

      +Rig Var hey RIg! The BigShot will definitely do the job for splitting the signal, and the MX400 will be able to blend the signals back together, based on the volume that you set for each channel.
      The only issue I have with the MX400 is that you get the hum from the pedals even if you siwtch that channel off with the ABY splitter (as shown in the video). If you want to do more splitting, then you can definitely do that, but you'll either need another splitter pedal, or you could use an octave pedal (or whatever) that has 2 outputs - for the clean and effect signals. It will start getting complicated when you want to switch the sounds on and off though!
      Basically my thoughts would be:
      Bass >
      BigShot A > Overdrive / distortion etc > Mixer input 1
      BigShot B > Octave pedal
      Ocatve pedal Clean output > any other effects > Mixer input 2
      Octave Pedal Effect output > Mixer input 3
      Mixer Output > Amp
      Hope that helps!

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 2 lety

      Sounds exciting! Sure, it depends on what your budget is and what you already have at your disposal. Personally for a gig I would prefer to use and ABY splitter into 2 amps rather than blended signals into a bass amp, but if that's not an option i definitely prefer using a boss LS2 with 2 blended loops rather than a splitter and then a mixer at the end like in this video.
      As for octave pedals, you really need one that doesn't create digital artefact / noise when shifting the bass up an octave, otherwise it will sound pretty bad. If your budget can stretch to a nano POG or Pitchfork then they would work great. The TC electronic Sub n Up is a good shout as is the Digitech Whammy. MXR have just released a pedal with octaves and fuzz built into one pedal, but it's pricey. For lower budget I used the Mooer Tender Octaver MkI but that got taken off the market after they got sued by EHX for copying the POG. The MkII pedal isn't as good from what I've seen. Looking on Google I would probably say the TC Electronic Sub n Up mini might be the best option for your price range but I haven't tried it myself.
      Hope that helps!

      @@osorii1612 If you have access to a guitar amp that has it's own distortion built in then I would focus the £100 on getting an ABY switch pedal and a +1 octave pedal. • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 8 lety

      +Dennis Mark to be honest I much prefer the sound of the 2 amp solution, but for practicality I use the LS2 solution with the GT2 because I can turn off the POG and use it as a pretty tasty bass distortion with some clean blended in. I don't really like the setup in this video just because of the issue with the noise even when you use the SwitchBlade+ to turn off the fake guitar signal - I'm sure a noise suppressor would help that but I like to keep my pedal board as free as possible :)

    Hey Alex. Good video. Just wondering if you can use this rig for guitar. Like if I used the switch blade then used a octave down to achieve the bass tone. I know you play bass but hopefully you'll have some idea lol

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 7 lety +3

      Thanks Jack! Yes absolutely - if you use it for guitar then there are also a lot more pedals you can choose from as well (like the Boss OC-2 / OC-3 and the clones of it). You can also use the SwitchBlade+ to blend signals, so one method might be to get the OC3, which has a direct out and an effect out, and then blend it back together after you've put some distortion on (via a pedal). I think there is danger of making your sound quite muddy if using the guitar amp distortion on the mixed guitar and sub octave signals, but if your amp has an effects loop, you could be really clever, and send the effect out of the octave pedal to the effects loop return, and send the direct out to the amp's input. I might have to do a video on that!

    • @jackgildermusic
      @jackgildermusic Před 7 lety

      Alexander Wright Thank you for your help! Really good videos by the way. I was thinking of starting with the switchblade + to separate the signals then use the 2 separate signals to achieve my guitar and bass tone; with a behringer ultra octave one one and by guitar effects on the other. Depending on the feedback I may need a noise gate. And just to put it out there I am more of a fan for your 4 pedal 1 amp vids than the 2 amp vids. Keep up the good work!

      Yes absolutely - the line selector is a better choice in my opinion as you don't get the noise from the joyo when you're not using it. Sounds like an ambitious project! The Behringer US600 also does dive-bombs - as far as I can remember, Boss calls it S-Bend and Behringer calls it Flutter on the pedals (they do the same thing). I assume you want two so you can have one bend up and one bend down? That would definitely work, but I've always been against buying an extra pedal just to play one song. Having said that, it's what Mike has (or had) in his setup, so it makes sense :) at least you would also be able to do ten tonne skeleton as well!

      LS2 A send>US600 Oct up>dist pedal >Ls2 A return as the 'guitar' sound
      Nothing in B.
      2. Bass into the LS2 input and out into the vocal harmonist guitar in, guitar thru to bass amp. (vocals go to PA via XLR I/O.)
      LS2 A send>US600 Oct up>dist pedal >Ls2 A return as the 'guitar' sound
      LS2 B send > AB-2 In/Out Output A of the boss AB-2 back into LS2 B return.

      stairwayofficial haha we're a rare breed of bassist that knows how to use effects properly so you probably confused them ;) personally I can't see what benefit you gain from having the vocalist pedal in your guitar signal path? I see that it has guitar pass through and effects send and returns, but I can't help thinking that (since your vox go to a PA) you'd benefit from simplifying and just having the VL2 completely separate?
      That way, I'd just use the LS2 as a splitter (Send A to guitar amp and Send B to bass amp without returning to the LS2), and use your AB2 as a kill switch for the guitar.
      Does that help any? I have my 5 pedals 2 amp setup planned now, so will get that on CZcams in a week or so...

      Quote:"That way, I'd just use the LS2 as a splitter (Send A to guitar amp and Send B to bass amp without returning to the LS2), and use your AB2 as a kill switch for the guitar."
      I'll try that :-)
      The VL2 needs to be in the guitar path, it uses the chords from the guitar/bass and the main vocal to give the vocal harmonies.
      Perhaps the US600 not having an isolated dry out to go to the bass amp is a problem a POG would solve? and I could then use the setup in your video.
      Thanks again.

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 9 lety +1

      Bloody hell that's a clever little pedal then! Very nice ;)
      The US600 can be used in the same way as the POG because it does have the two outputs -its a bit fiddly to get right on the dials (budget brand that doesn't care if the numbers don't match the settings when in pitch shift mode!), but its definitely achievable.

  • @low58e
    @low58e Před 8 lety +1

    Did you try to switch the swithblade and the behringer in order to avoid the hum/buzz?

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 8 lety

      +Didier Lelion yeh man, but the main culprit is the JOYO pedal. If I was desparate to get rid of that buzz, then I could either just switch the JOYO off when not in use, or get a noise suppressor pedal like the Boss NS2 or, as Luke suggested below the Behringer NR300 is very cheap!

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 8 lety +1

      +3rdDraft if it behaves like the Boss NS2, then I'd use it to make a loop containing the US600 and the JOYO, so it would go:
      switchblade > NR > loop to US600 > JOYO > loop back to NR > out to MX400.
      this way the noise reduction is applied to the fake guitar signal only. You could also have the US600 out of the NR loop because it doesn't create any noise, but I think it's a bit neater the other way :)

    • @low58e
      @low58e Před 8 lety +1

      +Alexander Wright Sorry to insist but did you try to split the signal with the behringer mx400 (and merge them with switchblade)? It should get rid of the buzz without any other pedal and without switching off the Joyo pedal.
      If behringer mx400 can't be used as a splitter, I would recommend a simple ABY pedal (fender micro ABY is tiny, cheap and could be used without power supply). You can't do any balance on the bass signal but you can change the volume of the "guitar" signal on the Joyo pedal.
      My point is by using the switchblade as a merger (instead of splitter), you should be able to avoid anything from the Joyo pedal.

      +Venlabax thanks :) to be honest I'm not sure, but I don't think so - when I had the FS-6, I used it as a controller for my loop pedal, so I think it's used for sending command signals rather than routing audio signals, if that makes sense? I might be wrong...

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety +1

      Yes you can - you just need to use a sub octave pedal instead of a +1 octave, and make sure you don't use amp distortion, as it will apply it after the mixed signal (i.e. to the fake bass effect). Just be aware that the thinner guitar strings won't sound the same as bass, especially playing without chords. I'm planning on doing a video on guitar vs bass for this setup soon :)

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety

      Haha any time mate :) the world of pedals can be very addictive, and you can get into the thought pattern of thinking you need to get an effect in order to sound better (rather than practising!) - I have been guilty of that! My advice is keep it simple, and only expand if you really need to - that way you're not overwhelmed with all the terminology and settings. If you search up my 2 pedal and 2 amp video for Royal Blood effects, I demo it on a guitar briefly so you can get an idea of how it might sound different - even though it's on two amps rather than one.

    (Problem solved)
    I own a Bass big muff pi wich has a "effect output" and "dry output". I bought the Fender ABY splitter to blend in those two signal to go directly into the amp.
    When I press "A or B" on the ABY splitter, the sound is just fine, but when i press "A and B", the amp buzzes an hums as hell and the sound is just horrible.
    My amp is a cheap "Harley Benton HB-10G", and i already had small buzz and hum problems with it.
    Do you think the problem is just that the amp is pure sh*t, or that the big muff pi can't play both "dry" and "effect" at the same time (wich just means I need the behringer mx400) ?
    Thanks for the answer.

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety

      Hey Barto, sorry to hear it's not working as intended!
      To be honest, it could be loads of things (amp, cables, pedal, power supplies...) so best thing is to start simple and see if you can't narrow down the problem.
      So your signal chain is:
      Bass -> Big Muff
      Big Muff Effect Out -> ABY A
      Big Muff Dry -> ABY B
      ABY -> Bass Amp
      You may have the A and B the other way round and some pedals in between?
      And the problem is when you kick in both channels at once, but the either one individually is okay?
      I would first test all the cables, and take out any other pedals apart from the Muff and the ABY just to make sure nothing is interfering.
      Let me know if I've got it right and we can go from there :)

    • @XxElBarto78xX
      @XxElBarto78xX Před 6 lety +1

      (You got the signal chain correctly, and yes, the problem is only here when I kick both channels at once, individually they're ok)
      I checked every cable individually and they're all good, and not any other pedal is interfering.
      I tried other ways of powering up, other outlets, other cables, and the problem is still there.
      Having the A and B the other way around didn't help either.

    • @XxElBarto78xX
      @XxElBarto78xX Před 6 lety +1

      I think i should try buying the behringer mx400 to have a dedicated pedal to split the signal, and not the Muff

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety

      Okay well it sounds like you've tried everything I would have, so it could well be the signals interfering with each other when the ABY is used to mix signals (I only use it to split into 2 outputs, not combine 2 inputs, so am not an expert there) - let me know how you get on when you get the MX400 :)

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 7 lety

      Hi Daniel - no it will handle it just fine :) It's more of an issue running bass through a guitar amp, because the speakers aren't designed to vibrate as far to get the low frequencies. The bass speakers don't handle the high frequencies as well, but it won't hurt them, so the only issue you'll experience is trying to EQ it so the bass keeps the low end, and the fake guitar stuff doesn't sound too muddy...

      @danielkung6589 Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks alex, quick response and amazing videos, really cool for bass players looking for a royal blood tone. curious thou have you tried 2 bass amps? One with a guitar pedal and another with bass preamp eq? The tone will come out like a bass with bass distortion and bass tone, keeping the bass feel for both? Just an idea

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 7 lety

      You're welcome :) no I've not tried two bass amps, but I'm pretty sure that's what Chris from MUSE does (without the +1 octave) in order to keep the low end in his bass distortion. I thinkyou're right that adding the +1 octave in will make it sound like a more bass heavy guitar, so might be better for heavier genres? You could always EQ the +1 octave amp to cut the lows though, so I'm not sure. If I ever have a 2nd bass amp lying around I'll give it a go!

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 6 lety

      I've never done that myself but I think that would work quite well, but the only thing I would say from my own experience is that playing the fake guitar sound through bass speakers usually sounds less sharp and more boomy than through guitar speakers. The dual input option is a really neat setup though, and gives you more control than my 4 pedals and 1 amp solution :)

    Output signal of Fender ABY to AMP.

    • @runamokPU
      @runamokPU Před 9 lety +1

      Alexander Wright . The Fender ABY arrived. But there's a problem with the configuration that I wrote.
      When you play both channels (A & B) the volume is 50/50 (controlled with mix knob on the US600), when a channel is muted the entire signal goes to active channel and the volume increase.
      Now I need something that doesn't split signal but "duplicates" it!
      Any ideas?
      actual gear: US600 - Zoom MS50 - Fender ABY

    • @AlexanderWright
      @AlexanderWright  Před 9 lety

      runamokPU hey man, that sounds like a pain. So from my understanding, the volume boost / drop is caused by the Fender ABY when it splits? If you want the duplicated signal in order to get round this problem, your cheapest bet is to do the setup in this video but use the ABY instead of the switchblade? I may have misunderstood why you want to do that though...
