I bought this lock at lowe's today, where I noticed they exclusively sell Master padlocks. out in front of the store, none of the locks they use to secure the outdoor merchandise are Master brand.
This is the first lock I ever picked. Went from never having touched lock picks to having it unlocked in 30 seconds. Thanks to your videos this is a new hobby for me.
Recently, my wife and I had to evacuate our house due to flooding. We were renting said house from her father in law and uncle on a month-to-month lease, and ended up having to move. (house was basically destroyed.) When we came back to move our stuff out of the garage (Which hadn't flooded as bad) we came to find this very Master lock on the door, attempting to keep our belongings for some breathtakingly petty reason. Having helped friends who have gone through this before, I knew that locking the shop when we are paid up on the rent, and not evicted, is illegal. So I had no qualms picking the lock. It took me longer than this video, but it wasn't hard.
Great video, as usual. Yes, I worry about the faith we put in these devices when you defeat them in seconds, but, folks need to keep in mind that picking a lock on a chain or mounted 3' off the ground is not as attractive or easy as on a bench in optimum lighting and positioning. You have probably talked about this numerous times and I just haven't come across it yet. I expect the majority of real world lock attacks are brute force or cutting tools.
It's so strange to know that million of locks are out there that look great and are sold for a decent price but can be picked in a minute and maybe raked in seconds. Nice demo - thanks.
Thanks. I'm sure its the same with you, but when I walk down the street and see people's locks, I just shake my head in disappointment. It's truly amazing how our societies can be living under such a significant shared delusion.
For God's sake don't go inside a storage facility. If it looks anything like the ones I've seen lately then you might loose all hope for our future as "intelligent" life forms. I try not to look, but some of the locks people use are so ridiculous that I can't help it.
I just bought one of these at my locally owned hardware store. When paying for it I told the owner I was buying it against my better judgement and then I told him about this excellent channel.
Your videos have got me hooked on lock picking! I'm still horrible at it, but practicing everyday on a few around the house. Only have a basic ebay set though, that I did the sanding stuff on etc.
I did manage to pick this lock, but it was surprisingly tricky compare to other Masterlock, despite having a short key, it's the most challenging pick test Masterlock I bought and used in public
Help- I am a newbie. I can pick this lock, in fact it’s the first I’ve had success with raking and single pin picking but I can’t get the lesser 40 to budge. LPL please point me in the right direction. I suspect it’s a tension issue as the cheaper 40 seems to bind up.
Damn haha. I bought this a couple years ago for my storage container while I was moving. Never knew locks were soo easy to pick after seeing this channel recently. Almost every single lock is unsafe. What we need is a list of actual secure locks that can't be picked in a few seconds please!
I bought one of these recently and I picked it in less than 10 seconds on my first attempt. I thought it might be beginners luck, but I easily picked it multiple times all within 10 seconds or less. This lock was as easy, if not easier, to pick than the cheap practice locks that come with the $20 Amazon lock picking tool kits.
Because the keyway is upside down you would think it would be more difficult to pick in use, especially because almost no real attacks on locks are done with lock picks. I bought this to pick but would feel fairly confident using on a storage unit if I need to because of the size of the shackle
I got my first lockpicks yesterday. after a literal minute raking one of the plastic ones that came with it, I gave one of these I had lying around a try. One minute of experience and I raked this thing in two seconds.
So I spent three hours trying to pick the lock on my damn shed. I did not have the right tools I broke three screwdrivers and seven different improvised pics before I got up the fucking drill and we open that bitch up you make this look so easy man you make it look so so easy you are genius wizard
I used this lock to lock my lawn mower on my trailer when i was still ignorant think master lock made good locks. Then I was going to use it as a practice lock, but the lock I have I picked in less than a second. I set one pin and it opens every time.
I bought one of these today. Its an example of the manufacturers marketing bullsh*t that attempts to deceive the consumer, tricking them into thinking they bought a good secure lock, when in reality its a very basic lock. For example, Master's website says "security level 8" and "4-pin cylinder for increased pick resistance" like its something good, this video proves the opposite is the case. Interestingly when I opened this lock. I'm surprised to find its not solid. The shackles shroud or case is made from thin sheet metal. So you'd probably be able to cut through it with a small angle grinder to bypass the shackle.
LPL's videos used to make me wonder why so may thieves use brute force methods to defeat locks. That was before I tried it myself. I could have built a portable plasma cutter in less time than it took me to pick this 'easy' lock.
So funny story, was moving my storage unit and forgot my key. No lockpicks on me, I picked the magnum with a Safety pin and a can opener hook as the tension bar.
I bought one of these. I put the tension bar in there then inserted a paperclip straight in and pushed it all of the way back and the thing just popped right open. I didn't even need to manipulate anything. What a cheap lock!
my son took my key to the storage unit and it has the same exact lock. I spent an hour and a half running back and forth from my house to the storage unit looking for keys. now I'm driving 25 minute drive to get the keys from my son. LOL if I were to watch this video last night I probably would have had it over in 10 seconds. locks are just for honest thieves I guess?!?!!!!?
I have this exact lock. I used it to protect my valuables I just got your CI Genesis set last week, picked up this lock and picked it on the first pin... Ive only watched a ton of your videos but was able to pick this crappy lock with no effort. I have a video of it if you like to see lol.
I'm just getting back into lock sport, and I'm trying to figure out how to gut this lock. Any advice, if it is possible? I'd even be okay with a slightly destructive method.
I have a Master Circular pad lock that someone tried to break in with a bump key. The key was broken off inside the lock and I can't remove it with needle nose pliers, etc. No gripping piece. Can I grind the lock off? Do I focus on the lock pin or the lock body? I haven't tried bolt cutters but I think the pin is too hard to cut. Thanks Its on a storage locker that has a thin 1/8" slide claps but I don't want to cut it there either.
Is still that supposed to be Master’s strongest commonly available disc lock? I think the marketing materials rated it as level 10 (whatever that means) while most other disc locks are rated less. It does seem to have better cut resistance, but why cut when you can pick it without too much trouble?
What is the purpose on the silver Magnum locks of the hole drilled in the side question 2 what would it do to the lock would I be able to open it if I took a drill bit and drilled into that hole slot
If master put as much effort into their pinning as they did in to their lock aesthetics they would have a nice secure lock. Is that the peterson Euro profile model pick? Do you prefer peterson over sparrows or other? I just ordered their stainless Slender set and have been thinking about getting their Euro profile set as well....
I prefer Peterson mostly for two reasons. First, their handles are very comfortable for my hands. Second, they produce picks with the same profile, but in different thicknesses. Thus, I can get used to a couple profiles, and use them for all locks regardless of the pick thickness required.
Generally most locks will turn clockwise with the pins at the top. It's rare to find them turn counter-clockwise; one from this channel that he did was a pre-WW2 Russian padlock.
I bought las week a cheap lock picking set to see if lock picking was as easy as the lock picking lawyer make it look like. After opening the locks included in the set, I wanted to see if a "real" padlock would be that easy. The first one I tried was this and It was open in about 10 second. Now that I have done it a few time, I can open it as fast as with the key.
@@thatfrenchbloke8892 It depends from the locks, but cheap locks from mainstream are usually reasonably easy to open, the locks from the set are too easy.

Hi TheaDragonSpirit thanks for the comment and for your help. I should have clarified and said that my gym locker was broke into while I was working out. It was locked by a key lock and the kid broke the shackle, stole my wallet and car keys, and then stole my car as well.
Damn, that is harsh. I would complain about the lockers, They should be more secure. Where I use to go swimming they had people who looked after your stuff, so no one else had any reason to be in that area. So if anything went missing it could only be by staff. Making it easy to catch them.
After I started watching picking videos on CZcams I went through and replaced all my master locks in use ,which was all the locks I was using, and threw them in my practice lock pile. Replace them with just about anything other than a cheap chinese lock and you're better off. They do make good beginer's picking practice locks though. It's like waking up one morning and realizing you have never locked anything up in your entire life. It's amazing I still own anything at all.
If I had a nickel for every person who brought one of these in thinking that its shape made it "badass" I'd be able to treat myself to a java chip @ Starbucks every day for at least 2 or 3 weeks.

They cornered the market by slick marketing and tying up sellers such as Home Despot that only sells their padlocks. They are inexpensive and cheaply produced, thus the profit levels are significant. The big box stores love Master as they virtually do all the advertising both in store and in various media outlets. It is virtually impossible to find any other padlock manufacturer in the box stores, outraegous but sadly the way of doing business these days....junk sells.
