Taken from 5x04 and plays during the final scenes of the episode during the funeral procession for Æthelflæd. Contains what may be a theme for Æthelflæd. I'm still in awe of the fact that John Lunn and Eivør did this... that people can create something as breathtaking as this to listen to.

The directing in the end of this episode is gold. It seems like a classical fade to black transition to the credits, as we see her in the coffin, carried into the church. But that slow fade is not just a transition, it is our way to live the farewell just like Uthred does: He can watch her body, her coffin, going slowly away until the procession flows deeply inside the church. She disappears step by step, until Uthred's eyes, and ours, can no longer see her.
That whole episode was pretty stunning, my favourite by a mile even though it had so much sadness in it

It was an incredible episode but so heartbreaking.
Missing this show so much...episode 4 in season 5 had so much emotions, I cried throughout the entire episode...loved Uhtred and Aelthelflaed

I live how she died in her protectors arms. Safe. Loved. Warm. Just perfect ending for her. Sad but beautifully done. And his tenderness with her in the night as they both still lay there together was just so touching. I cry every single time.

I love the overlaps/similarities with My England, the track that played at Alfred's death. Aethelflaed was always her father's daughter and so much more.
The most beautiful song in season 5. It was perfect for a beautiful & beloved women who passed at too young an age. Eivor's voice starting at 2:33 chokes me up every time. Thank you for uploading this.
I agree. It encapsulates her beauty, strength, and tragedy so well. This is probably my favorite track from the whole series!

It does for both her and Uhtred and the pain you see in him carrying her to her bed...really for all who loved her including the unspoken love many may have overlooked that Eldhelm had for her

21st Jan 2023, 4:58am and just finished watching this episode. What a heart wrenching moment yet so beautiful. It's like poetry; dying in your beloveds arms. I really hope they release an actual album for all 5 seasons, there's so many pieces that I've heard throughout the show and yet cannot find them, it's so frustrating but thank you for this ❤️
I agree. Like this theme and the one that played when she died that you can find under the name "Last Kingdom carrying her home soundtrack" on CZcams I just cannot find on Spotify for example and it's so frustrating!! I want the whole of Last Kingdom's soundtrack available on Spotify or other music streaming services!!

Their love story was timeless and the love and respect they had for eachother was such an inspiration. Lord Uhtred and Lady Aethelfled are a true symbol of Love and Sacrifice!

Incredibly underrated series. Of course it’s canceled because most people do not care of nuances. Always saw myself like Uthred, trying to unite family and friends on opposite sides of politics and religion. Using humor and logic- getting scolded by each on occasion, I have learned to stand alone but provide strength to those I love when needed.
Just finished watching this episode, what a masterpiece!! This entire show, such rollercoaster of emotions yet so beautiful, everything about it is so so so good, happy i had the honor to watch this work of art in one go, hands down my favorite show and sad it’s nearly coming to an end. They probably won’t see this but thank you to everyone involved ❤
The sound track for season 5 was spectacular. Considering this was all filmed and produced during covid lockdown, it was the best of all 5 seasons. Maybe the dark period illuminated the the artist brain of Eivor & John Lunn to different heights.

Season 3 was peak for me. Alfred's death was perfectly done.

Season 5 truly has the greatest moments of the series. Both the saddest and happiest. What amazes me most about this scene is how mature Uhtred becomes when he states that no King can rule without bloodshed and how he wasn't going to retaliate.
I totally agree, this shows real character development from Uhtred here. In earlier series he would have gone off at the deep end and only made things worse. But here you can see his maturity in the way he views things. It also fits in with what he decides at the end of the show. A really good development here and a very beautiful goodbye and end for the Lady of the Mercia into the bargain. ❤

I can’t either, I’m disappointed too. And I’m very happy with what is on the album. You should ask John and Danny on Twitter/email (they’re more responsive than Eivør) if they would put this on their websites/SoundCloud. It’s my favorite track from the series too. I edited it a bit to make it cleaner, so I think I’ll share it soon, unless Danny and John decide to put it out there!

Such well done music, so many sounds in this track. It goes well with the stark contrasts of Brida losing her daughter but perhaps finding faith against the queen’s mother losing her daughter and her faith. Brida’s daughter buried in a cavelike tomb also contains a strong allegory.
The track begins with a hint of a bagpipes first notes in a dirge, then the deliberate strings/strumming into a crescendo with a gothic children’s chant for the precession is powerful continuing beyond the fade to black mimicking the darkness and shadow cast by the church. Again in contrast to the light of the cave scene.

In my version there is no moment where Uhtred says "Edward's rule will not be challenged. His line will watch the throne until it becomes their turn... Just as King Alfred wanted." And this moment is insanely beautiful. Thank you)

And yeah, this one might be my favorite cue from the entire series… it really encapsulates so many emotions that Uhtred has felt throughout it. @@wcsdiaries There are usually six audio tracks for TV shows and movies nowadays, and each one has different audio info-one has the dialogue, for example, and others have the background noises (like birds, rain, echoes, and the score). I took the channels with the score mixed in to make this!

Even though it is a tv show but i cannot enjoy the show without Aethaflaed. I think I love her and her character. And when she dies this was the saddest moment in the whole series of Last Kingdom. And this beautiful song has made those sad moments even more sadden..

You have good ears! Are you skilled at editing audio? It was a slight change, so I haven’t noticed it much. You can use Audacity to correct the volume (using the compressor tool or just amplifying it)

It's probably the best song in season 5, but I didn't find this piece on the album released today :O Did I miss it, or it's not there? It's very similar to "Blood will prevail" but not the same. I was waiting for this song so much!
