Thank you Bernina Jeff. This is sooooooo needed. I couldn't figure out how to oil my walking foot and it is squeaking really badly.
Thank you! I've been using my walking foot for EVERYTHING for the past year. Last week the entire foot started lifting between stitches and I heard metal rubbing against metal. Knew it was the walking foot because my zipper foot was working just fine. A little oil here and there and it's working great!
Oh just the information I need, about a month ago my walking foot started squeaking and I couldn’t find out how to oil it, I didn’t know that it could be opened, so I tried to oil it while closed, but it didn’t help. This is such useful information, as the squeaking is so very annoying, and not goof for the walking foot I imagine 😱 you really do keep us happy, and sewing. Thank you Jeff ☺️ 🧵👌
I can’t tell you how much all your videos help me with my Bernina 570B machine.
Welcome
Nice! I have a walking foot that is squeaking badly and wondered why. It was rather expensive so I didn’t want to buy it again. This is fantastic tutorial! I will try servicing my walking foot. Thanks so much!
Thank you for your excellent video on oiling the Bernina walking foot.
I did not know that a walking foot needed oiling until I saw this video a month or two ago. This week my walking foot started squeaking while quilting a quilt. When I finished sewing it, I started this video to follow the steps. I had some difficulty loosening the screws on my 10 year old walking foot so my husband had to assist me several times. I am not very mechanically adept, but I was able to complete the servicing by rewatching segments as I needed more information. Thanks for providing a valuable service. I sew on a Bernina 530 but I also own a 930 purchased in 1985 as well as a 230 QE to take to classes.
Another fantastic video! Oh, what would we do without you, Bernina Jeff?!? Thx so much for sharing such valuable knowledge with us. 😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Oh my! Dear Joe, You are truly amazing! I just started making bras and found that my walking foot was the hot set up for construction. My walking foot is only about a year old and this is the first time that I've used it. I was sewing along and all of a sudden the lever seized up. I thought I would need a new one. I know this video is about lubricating the foot but I took mine apart. By merely putting some "yellow capped oil" on the pin, I was able to begin to move it and soon it was moving freely. I was even able to put the foot back together and it actually works! Thank you so much for the knowledge as well as the time and money I saved!
Thank you! I had no idea walking feet needed to be oiled.
Another great video. Once again I'm glad I liked to help my dad grease the combine better than helping mom! Not afraid to take things apart when a great teacher like you shows me how!
Thank you... i just bought my Bernina and a walking foot, so this is definitely a blessing to watch ahead of time....i appreciate your videos, please keep them coming!
Brilliant, and thank you! I live in Mexico and need to do as much maintenance on my Bernina 440qe as possible. You just have me another way to keep on sewing!
Thank you Jeff for patiently sharing your expertise. My walking foot is clean, oiled up and my B350 is ready to keep on sewing.
My walking foot wasn’t working properly. I had seen your video a while back. I looked it up and was able to follow your instructions.I now have a working foot. Thank you so much for your informative, easy to follow instructional video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Fantastic video!! My walking foot started squeaking and this video was so easy to follow along and get it oiled! Every step is so clear!! Thank you so much!
Told my silly husband to watch this, it was too easy to take apart and put back together (no left over parts) and now they work, thanks
You are welcome
Thanks so much!! This video was super helpful! We got a used walking foot on EBay and it didn’t work when it came. Something was seized up and it wouldn’t walk right. We were able to take it apart with the help of this video and oil it up and now it works like a charm! Thanks again for sharing your expertise!
Fantastic!
I cleaned and oiled BOTH of my walking feet today, thanks for the great info!
Wonderful!
Thank you Jeff. This was a very clear instructional video. I successfully oiled my squeaky walking foot. From Beryl in Australia
Thanks Jeff, My hubby just maintained my very squeaky walking foot!
Thanks for your detailed video!
Thank you this is great advice. I have a Janome machine and walking foot. A few months ago the walking foot fell apart. The screw had loosened as I probably run, not walk. I put it back together and works fine but I should have followed your oiling tips as well.
Jeff, Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I just serviced my squeaky walking foot in about 10 minutes and it is blissfully silent!!! You're a saint!!!!
I’ve been thinking that my walking foot was squeaky and maybe needed some oil, but I didn’t know what to oil. Just did it along with you. Thanks so much! No squeaking anymore! 😀
A wonderful video! Thanks for educating us in how to take care of our sewing tools!
As I was sewing today my walking foot was getting squeakier and squeakier. Now that I watched your video, I was able to lubricate the foot just like you show. Thank you for making this video! :-)
Thank you Jeff! I was able to get a friend’s bernina walking foot working with the help of your video. ❤
Excellent video! I was able to easily follow along cleaning and oiling my walking foot. I was seriously considering purchasing a new one because the sole plate would pop off occasionally. It is over 20 years old. Now I’ll save my money and routinely oil and clean the foot. Thank you. 😊
I love the stitch in the ditch sole on the Bernina foot. Thanks for the maintenance demonstration. I self serviced my foot prior to seeing this video..but I simply dropped some oil in the hatch. It worked; but I can see the value of a more thorough cleaning/maintenance if needed.
Regarding patent for magnetic trough...old trick that would not pass patent muster! I do all of my repairing over a lidded tray lined with a dish towel and a small container for screws. It keeps things from going awry.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!. I was quilting and half way through, stitches started getting small as if lowered to embroidery setting. I rethreaded the machine , even the bobbin and played with tension on it. Then I changed to regular foot and it sewed correctly. So I took apart walking foot and oiled it put it back together and it works PERFECTLY. Thank you so much for the advice. My walking foot is old and showed no sign of lubrication inside. I'm happy I can continue my project. Thank you.
Thank you Jeff! I did have to use a bit wider screwdriver as the one supplied was not loosening up the screws. The screws were really tight. But after that your video was extremely helpful and easy to follow!
Thank you so much. Great close-ups! One of mine has never been used for one of my many Berninas. It is the same as what you are working on here. I will open it today and see if it moves.
First time I have ever seen this in my many years of using Bernina walking feet. Thank you! I think I'll go do the maintenance on one of mine. Cheers and thanks.
Thank you!!!! A previous tech told me they are factory sealed, couldn’t be opened and mine was worn out. So I purchased a new one. I’m happy to report, he is no longer a Bernina dealer. I’m happy to mail it to you for your opinion.
Thank you so much! I finally figured out the squeak was not my machine and must be the walking foot. Next up, take it apart and oil with your help!!
Thank you Jeff for sharing this. Your videos have made my day! I feel so much smarter! 😊
I absolutely love you ❤Jeff. Just done it and saved myself some GBP…KERRCHING !!! Love what you do and wish your shop was near me in the UK. X
Thank you Jeff! Great tutorial! Love that you are left handed! I am also! It is refreshing to see a demo by a left handed person!
Thank you so much for this! No more squeaking. Easy fix!
Thanks so much. This was really clear to follow. Another walking foot serviced at home. 😊
Thanks again Jeff we have a dealership in Qld Australia and this channel is a great help keep up the great videos .
Thank you so much for this tutorial. The squeaking was driving me crazy and now it's gone!!
Thank you so much! What a great lesson!
Perfecto camera shot!! Perfect focus and detail!!👍👍👍
Thank you so much. Now I can oil my squeaky walking foot.
Just serviced my walking foot…thank you
Thank you for this information.
I have an old 235 but a walking foot so perhaps I will try this. Your instructions were clear but I am still intimidated.. thanks waving to you from Michigan
I learned something valuable today. I didn’t know I could cure the squeak!
excellent tutorial
Thank you! I watched your video and was able to open my walking foot to diagnose my wobbly fork. My 2 month old Bernina walking foot broke, the fork snapped right at the insert pin😳! I didn’t even own it long enough to need to oil it! I will take it in to the dealer and hopefully they can repair it. Unfortunately, there is no warranty on Bernina presser feet.
excellent, you saved my life
Hi Jeff, Thank you “sew” much for this video! This was amazing! I found you during Covid so I’ve been following you for awhile, and watched your video with Karen Brown - Just Get It Done Quilts, several times. We spend so much on these machines and need them to last. You are making our guilting more fun. Mine is a B570 and I love it.
Thank you! Great video
Thank you Jeff it was well explained.
Your videos are awesome. Thank you!
Thank you!
This new camera mount looks good!
Very helpful, thank you!
Thank you SO much for this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi there i just love your videos .....I am in Australia and just love watching you helpful videos
I did not know there were oil requirements on the walking foot. Thank you for showing how to open up the foot for service.
Yes ! News to me.
I think you have become my Bernina Hero, Jeff!
Great video, mine squeaks so I need to oil it!!!
Great info. Thought the squeaking was something I had to live with. I oiled with you.
What a wealth of information you are. I have an old walking foot for my 730 record and my 1280 machine. Old style. These also need oiling? I never knew.
The old ones need oiling too
Excellent! Very thorough. (Bernina should mention in the pamphlet that occasional oiling is needed...BEFORE it seizes up.)
Awesome!!! Thanks !!
That is awesome!
Well done. Never knew this foot needed to be oiled!!!
Jeff thank you my walking foot won’t move well/grab the fabric. I’m going to try cleaning it per your instructions.
Never think about to oil it 🥹 thank you
I had no idea that walking feet needed oiling. Since mine has never squeaked, I never thought about it!
Ty, that was painless.
The chest mount camera is great! Love all your videos. Don't have a Bernina. Learn something in every video. Put WF on without a needle in place.
Is a walking foot necessary with the new berninas with the built in dual feed
Hi, Thank you for the video ... all was so clearly explained. I used the oil that came with my Bernina ... I don't know anout yellow cap or red cap oils... can you explain further.
Red cap oil is for the hook on the black bobbin machines and the yellow cap is for all other moving parts on all machines and walking feet, the red cap will work but it is lighter and will need to be repeated more often
Thanks for your video. I opened mine to fix something but forgot the placement of the springs. I had been struggling quite some hours before I found your video. It was a lifesaver, as I almost went to go buy a new one 😅
You're welcome!
Great video. I have a no name walking foot which is relatively new. But I notice that it has started intermittently clunking and leaving black powder on my fabric when I am sewing. Will doing this help or just make it worse. Thanks very much.
Another Great Video, Bernina Jeff! Thank you, from another Lefty, lol.....
Hello. I'm enjoying your videos very much. Can you please tell me which 3 sole walking foot is the newest? Does it have the silver, slightly formed fork, or the black fork? Thank you.
Great info. When I first got my walking foot I mistakenly loosened the “don’t remove this” screw too much and it was the last time I ever saw it. I searched everywhere, crawled around the carpet with a magnet, but never found it. I finally found an out-of-state dealer who had one (he said it was the first time anyone had asked for one).
You’re not alone. I did the same thing.
Thank you. Mine is 15 years old and has started to squeak. Also, can I buy just the 3rd sole plate for my walking foot? The stitch in the ditch one? I would love one but not enough to purchase a 2nd walking foot.
Yes I have the ditch in the ditch sloe plate $32.79 call the shop to order 970-256-1293
Can a stitch regulator be fixed?
Hi, I am just seeing your CZcams video and I found it when I started wondering if I could oil my Bernina walking foot. Got tired of hearing the squeaking. And...Walla!, exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for this very informative video. I only have one question. Is the yellow cap oil a special one that is especially for Bernina machines or can I just purchase it anywhere. The only oil I have is one that is specifically for oiling my Bernina sewing machine that was purchased from a dealer. Should I go there to purchase the "yellow" cap one?
Glad you found it put some lube on the inside of the fork too.
O my goodness! I will pay u to do this!
Send it to me I get a couple a month.
Does this work for older Berninas: 170 and 180? I have both machines, I love them. I do not want to another machine. I will do whatever I need to do to keep these babies in good shape!
I probably did not ask the right question ... I guess I need to know how to ask at the hardware store for yellowcap and redcap oil. Is there a brand name or do all machine oils come with the coloured caps regardless of the brand. Can I just use sewing machine oil? I used the oil that came with my machine and it works fine ... although if it is the "red cap" type oil it might not last as long.
I am going to watch your other videos in order to keep my machine in top shape ... you make it seem so easy. .
Yes you can use any brand of sewing machine oil, or Tri-Flow with teflon
Hi Jeff, your videos are most helpful, but I do have a question. I am not able to remove the fork from the walking foot. Two years ago, with the help of your videos I cleaned and oiled the walking foot. The oil I used was the bernina oil used for oiling the machine. This oil was probably too lite and didn’t last as long. Unfortunately now the fork is stuck and I can’t seem to get it off. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks
My plastic outer piece has a major crack in it. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I was having some trouble with some thick fabric. It seems like this is totally inconsequential to the function of the foot. Do you know if it's possible to purchase and extra plastic outer piece?
What about the older walking feet? Does it come apart the same way? Mine is for the 830 model.
Very close to the same way
What exactly is the “red cap” oil versus the “yellow cap”? I have Tri-Flow oil, as well as the Lily White machine oil, are either of those OK? Great tutorial, BTW, I’m servicing my walking foot today, cause it squeaks!
Red cap is ONLY for the bobbin area of black bobbin machines yellow oil is for every other part, model, brand. You oils are fine but in a dry climate they dissipate quickly.
I can’t get the little black screw out... it just wants to bend up the top... any hints?
Jeff,Could you provide the brand and the type of oil which you referenced as Yellow Cap Oil?
Do you know where I can find a video like this for the baby lock walking foot? The retailer for baby lock said I would have to buy a new one?
Baby Lock walking feet are a lot different but they can be opened up and oiled and put back together. They are tricky and I will not be doing a video on that
I have an old kenmore and I would love a stitch in the ditch walking foot. Would that fit my machine ?
My walking foot leaves black sooty specks on my fabric, they seem to be in line with the feed dogs. I've had it from new and it's always done it so I can't use it and don't know how to fix it, any suggestions?
Are walking feet the same as dual feed?
No, walking feet are an attachment and DUAL feed is built into certain models
I have a Joanne Horizon Memory Craft 8900 QCP Special Edition is there any things that should know about it. I would love ❤️ to know.
From Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Can I use this info w any similar foot?
Yes any walking foot with screws to let you inside
