Great live stream. Roger really knows his stuff.!!
This is what the people have been waiting for
This was really interesting, excellent guest in Roger. I was born in 1987, and my house is 75 years old. I think millennials are really struggling because we are the generation who can barely afford houses, but have so much maintenance to do on them. Your videos have been invaluable to me, and I've learned so much, so thank you.👍When we get enough money, we will overhaul so much in our house, it'll just take time.
just try to prioritize things that protect your home first and then function second. no sense having a great new space and then the roof leaks. Cheers!
two of my favorite professionals.... fantastic show Jeff and Roger.... do this again!!! Cheers!
We are definitely doing this in October and we will have to invite him back on again as well. Cheers!
Roger is such a cool dude. Top notch at explaining things. I'm really happy to see you two collaborating.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Cheers , we will be having him back on.
I watched Rodger climbing through tunnels, while replacing the drain pipes under a house. I bought an old house with cast iron drain pipes and galvanize pipes for supply.
I pulled a permit from the state of Idaho and I am currently replacing all the drain pipes with ABS an the supply with Pex. I am in a crawl space with 18 inches from the ground to the bottom of the floor joists, running the pipes through the walls and venting everything out the roof, and replacing the pipes under the slab in the basement.
I really appreciate the videos you make. They have been extremely helpful to me while doing this project. Plumbing is simple in the fact that crap goes down hill an the hot goes on the left. On the other hand, there are lots of rules that need to be followed.
Thanks for all the info. I am getting close to the point of doing my presure tests and calling the inspector. When I am in the crawl space, worrying about siders dropping on my head. I get inspiration from the video of Rodger climbing through tunnels in the video.
This is one of the best shows ever. I have watched both of you for years and it is great to see you working together.
Cheers Wayne. any other suggestions for guests?
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY If you want an electrician, I like watching Dustin of Electrician U channel
Two of my favorite CZcamsrs!
Hope you do this again!
Same!!!
This was awesome to listen to last night. Thanks for the collab -- it's like having a hamburger AND the bun -- all in one show!
Bring back Roger! Loved this form of content!
Love what you’re doing and where you continue to take the channel. Thank you
Thanks. Cheers!
This was great. Please do this a few times a year!
I agree!
Loved this! Jeff, you have hands down the best/most helpful DIY channel on CZcams. Really enjoyed the Q/A with Roger. One small tweak I’d suggest for next time. Try and give the guest expert first crack at a majority of the questions.
Niceeeee I'm use to my favorite streamer colabs now I got my favorite tradesmen lol
Roger reminds me of my old man. Both super old school and did plumbing/pipefitting for decades. My old man has done some pex but he's always been a copper guy and his soldering skills were unmatched.
Best 90 minutes of CZcams out there!!
Thanks Roger and Jeff!
Great information. Keep up the excellent content. I'm renovating a 1910 house now and this info is perfect. Thank You.
All the best Bryce. Cheers my man!
This is the most ambitious crossover ever!
My friend just had about 20ft of cast iron drain pipe removed from the house she just bought. Years back I had to cut a section of basement floor out to replace the terracotta pipe with pvc
Thank you so much for the great information
When I bought my house, all the bathrooms vented into attic. I didn't want to cut multiple holes in the roof to vent. Aldes makes a whole house fan which allowed me to vent out one hole. Each bathroom gets a box with a damper. Single box in the attic with a squirrel cage fan. All bathroom boxes plumbed to that fan box. Switches in bathroom opened damper in box, damper his a secondary switch which kicks on the fan. Bonus, because fan is in attic, it is super quiet!
My two favorites when learning home and plumbing :)
Great video. I'm fans of you both. Thank you for sharing all of your experience and knowledge.
Happy to help. Cheers!
I've been brainstorming my water pressure problem for MONTHS after I completed my basement renovation where I switched from copper to PEX . Down stairs (close to water heater) pressure is good but upstairs is lacking a bit(especially with multiple things running). You guys answered it in the first few minutes 👌🏽
I use Pex and EziPex Slide fittings from Rehau. I love them, there a little manual as you need the lineal press and hand expander but they can withstand high pressure and hot water.
I've always lived in MN/WI and have owned three different homes and the water meter has always been in the basement like In Canada. Never thought it would be different in the southern states but makes sense!
Great video!! You two rock!!
I gotta say I dig the chemistry we had. Cheers!
Exactly what I needed to know because I just redid a shower and the hot water in the shower is a trickle. I had a plumber do it because of intense complications. It runs the sink as well and I think the plumber downsized the pipe that was there. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
cheers!
as a plumber, if you have a slow drain in the basement, check your backwater valve door! could be it got clogged with toilet paper, wet wipes , tampon, or it could just of have unhinged itself
great advice. Cheers!
Awesome!
GREAT SHOW
45:22 I love this modern "engineering" based on the life expectancy of the engineers! Wow!
Un invitado maravilloso, mi amigo, buena suerte y éxito.
This was awesome!!!
This was interesting, thanks to you both 🎉🎉
Great content👍 I have a bathroom in second floor, do I have to install some form of "return stop" for the pex going to the bathroom, have a lot of air in the system?...
Wow yes yes!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
What makes a professional plumber? Experience , jobs done (and It works), licensees?
I like both of you
When y’all was talking about the 1 1/2 and 2” only thing I is a 1 1/2 for is vent only , on vanity and sinks I is 2” to 1 1/2 santee all drain lines are 2” or bigger on my job for the reason that you never know who going to remodel the house and what kind of fixtures there going to install so 2” will handle anything except a toilet
Any info about water hammering. Pls?
I’d say if you have a trailer house from 84 and it has cpvc, consider yourself lucky. Every old trailer house I’ve seen has quest pipe or polybutylene for the sticklers. I hate leaks in trailer houses. Because they’re prefabbed everything is up in the structure and covered with insulation and plastic. This means the water sits in a belly in the plastic. You have to cut it and there’s no way to do that without getting soaked with insulation infested water. Then just hope the hole is near that because sometimes the belly may not be where the leak is
41:40 And here Roger makes an excellent case against his beloved copper.
I believe the concern with PEX is that it can absorb and release PFAS whereas copper clears it much quicker?
This comment is not to be mean or anything! Your Channel has been rather stagnant lately. This episode was really enjoyable. Yes, I have watched Roger's Channel! I have to take a grain of salt with what he is telling me since he is in Texas and I am in Alberta. You just don't dismiss a 40 yr Master Plumber's advice. I still watch your videos on Decks/Drywall/Laminate Florring,Finishing Carpentry. My wife is rather happy with the results. Happy Wife...Happy Life...right??
I would love to see you visit some of the DYi-ers on CZcams and see what they do...Maybe some more Tips and Tricks to be learned???
Great Video and I hope to see more of them! :)
Is Electrician U or The Build Show next? You guys are great !
The only challenge with oversizing your pipes does it takes forever to get hot water to any of the fixtures.... So you may also want to consider a thermal siphon loop or a pumped loop, so that you have hot water at the farthest end of the house without having to dump 3 gallons of water down the sink to get it
U need to do a video in Well Water Systems, Softeners, ect.!
In my area of FL our Inspectors are a joke.
People at Home Depot know more 😁😁😁
I’m happy you could do this videos what part of FL are you? I have a hard time finding contractors after the hurricane and I’m a woman that I’m trying to fix what I can seen CZcams but gutters, facial and so on I can do it myself I’m so stressed out my husband used to be very handy doing everything after I lost 4 years ago no it’s not easy things to be done
sorry to hear. I am not taking contracts anymore u fortunately. All the best for you and your family. You can do it!
Rodger which one will last the longest to brass or stainless I'm trying to decide because I'm redoing some of my plumbing and I've used brass so far and I think the water is just too hard because it seems we eating it up and turning it green?
37:25 At this moment Jeff starts thinking "hmm, how many did I do that were less then that..."
Jeff, what’s the make and model of that toilet?
What is the best jet pump make/model for a basement sink drain?
saniflo!
Cool
NE Vermont has no codes for homeowners unless you are adding additional square footage. its so weird
Organic vs. inorganic arsenic is a big, big, big distinction.
So I just bought union ball valve twice and got the wrong size it’s description is 2” yet each time I put a 2” pipe on either end it’s 1/4 loose what the heck is going on???
1974 house in northern ohio, single story home with a full basement. Right below my kitchen sink on the first floor, is the washer/dryer in the basement. Whenever I run the washer I hear gurgling and bubbling in the pipes through the kitchen sink, anyway to get rid of this noise?
you need more venting for the washer. it is sucking the water out of your P trap at the sink. Cheers!
The rules I remember was lines or sized off of the water pressure well I think that is changed now?????
How can you hookup a counter topwasher without using the faucet ?
Double shutoff under sink with compression line running to washer.
Cpvc gets brittle in South East PA on Wells... 15 to 25 years... Don't smack it.... It will crack
Could you explain what these materials are for you followers in the UK? What is pecks?
pex is a plastic water supply line that makes installation super quick compared to copper or steel.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY ahh you mean push fit, we use a lot of push fit (UPVC) John Guest and PipeLife is our main manufacturers.
42:20 14 carat gold is 14/24 x 100% "kind of" gold
Do you guys have lead?
only in the waste water. on old pipes
-40C is the crossover.
-40 F/C is the actual crossover point.
LOL really once we get that cold who cares. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY😅 apologies for the pedantry, I'm a mechanical engineer who had that and the conversion between the two drilled into my head about a decade ago.
Love your content man, bought a home a little over a year ago and while I lack the capital to do large projects right now your lessons are great to have in my back pocket for the small repairs I've had to make here and there. Cheers!
Cheers!
Jeff, what toilet are you getting for the $150?
Wow pex is over 10 years old
Pex has been around since the 80s
São Paulo l Brasil
Fixing things in older houses sounds like what is wrong in our country, probably the world. FIX THE INFRASTRUCTURE!
Your approach to pex leeching chemicals is pretty silly. Saying "well water quality is already sub-par" completely side steps the question. Even if pex is the safest form of plumbing, your response simply doesn't address it.
Great vid tho, you're both amazingly helpful! 😉
Rodger have you ever blown up a toilet let's say by accident??.?.?
The job is not that complicated. The trouble is in lack of expiriance. First reno will never be better than your second, third... and you cant learn everything from youtube because available materials in different areas are not the same.
