I think Savage really is one of the most tragic characters in Star Wars. He never truly wanted to be evil or be a Sith or be submissive to anyone, he was forced into serving Dooku and the Nightsisters, and he so clearly just wants to start a new life with his brother, but while Maul clearly does care for him, he can't openly show it and still puts Savage down into a submissive position. Savage is doing everything just for his brother because he has nothing else, and ultimately it will cost him his life which is just sad
His tragedy is only rivaled by Maul, even Anakin had some closure seeing his Son still lived and died knowing he had saved him, Savage and Maul never got any such closure. Maul presumably had the same story as Savage except being broken by Obi-wan and forced to live a terrible existence thinking he was a failure. When Maul is saved, he continues to do be a sith, the only thing he knows which leads Savage down the path with him and worse, he loses Savage just when he was realizing how much it mattered having a brother.
And also mauls whole revenge was pointless. Even if he killed obi wan in their final duel, what will he have gained,as it was really palpatine who ruined his life, he wouldn’t get anything back, not his brother, mother or the death watch, he would probably be alone and try and either these two of the possibilities, try and kill palpatine, and get destroyed by Vader, or since he kinda realized luke, find him and train him as a apprentice and try to use him and kill palpatine and Vader, and of course fail
The part where the apprentice is the one to survive the master kinda portrays his desire for his sibling to live beyond him. I don't think Maul intended to live through killing Obi-wan
This is actually really deep. Maul was taken from Dathomir as a child, and basically raised by Sidious under the idea of the Rule of Two. I think that shows how Maul doesn't want to torment and humilliate his brother, just put him on line when Savage disagrees with him. I think that also shows how deep down he _does_ care for Savage. Out of all the people who were his Master, I think Maul was the by far the best one Savage had.
@Zandris Hugal Well, that's really different and a special case, the director already told that all the fight was mental and in consenquence the two of them went for the killing move, like in the movie the Last Samurai, the two of them can be very matched but lost in seconds.
Isilmo I'm more inclined to say that he was half the man he used to be when he appeared in Rebels. Clone Wars made him more calculating, ruthless and level headed than he was in Episode I, where as Rebels showed him as an old former Sith with half the power he originally had in Episode I and even Clone Wars.
I do appreciate how they showed how skilled maul actually is, no flashy fight, no theatrics, while other pointed out that this was likely a subdued duel as neither likely wished to truely harm the other. It still showcases mauls extreme skill
Savage has destroyed couple Jedi's and bested Ventress, yet was beaten by Darth Maul with ease. Meaning nearly most Jedi's wouldn't stand a chance against Maul. Ahsoka really put up a good fight against him since she gone through vigorous journey herself. Obi-Wan bested Maul in their last fight by tricking him using Qui-Gon's stance. The quick blow was Obi-Wan's saying "Enough!" to Maul and helps him put to rest as they both lost everything to Darth Sidious.
Well that and I think I’m the end maul didn’t want to fight Kenobi anymore, I think he went there and just wanted to die, but only by Kenobis hand. That would help explain why he talked to obi wan like he did just before he died.
You also have to remember that Maul was at his worst due to everything that happened with Sidious and just generally with how worried he was about everything that was happening, while Ashoka was at her best, and even then Maul disarmed her 3 times and had her at his mercy.
This really is a feat to Ahsoka. Savage was curbstomped when Maul even contemplated killing her throughout the fight. Savage may be below her in skill level but his brute strength and raw power was more than enough to defeat most of his opponents. The only one he could not defeat was Maul and Dooku. I'm sure if he had a little more training he would've killed Dooku with the help of Ventress. Y’all so pressed about this comment 3 years later lmao
I remember hearing in a interview that Savage has a greater potential compared too Maul, even when he was fighting Sidious he had not picked up on a traditional form and still looked wild and sporadic where he still able to hold his own against Sidious for some time, if he and Maul stayed hidden and trained they could have been an unstoppable duo with his strength and Maul's speed
No shit, Savage though powerful had no potential as a powerful Force contender, he had no tactical patience, or logical cold capacity to grow his power.
Maul is sidious apprentice before Savage is dooku apprentice before Their relationships just like sidious and dooku but in the form of brotherhood, the are the first pair of siths that show love to each other, that’s why I love them so much
Upon finding the Iron Throne Savage: "Let's share it and rule together." Maul: "As your master the Iron Throne is mine." Savage ignites lightsaber, Maul ignites his. 30 seconds later Maul pins him down. Maul(helping Savage up) "Until you are ready you will stand by side as will Feral."
Surprisingly enough it's interesting game of thrones is brought up. Since Maul, Savage and Feral are pretty much Drogon, Rheagel, and Viserion. With all three dragons looking all lot like the brothers, and pretty much having similar natures.
I think what's absolutely amazing about these animations is how, specifically for lightsaber users, they're able to portray fighting styles extremely well
0:59 I can't help but feel that Savage's genuine happiness towards seeing the money is a subtle reference to another character Clancy Brown is famous for playing. If you know, you know. ;)
Maul would never hurt Savage, he just wants to be his mentor to teach him what knowledge he holds! Maul protects his brother in every situation e.g. where Obi-Wan severed Savage's arm, Maul, fearful for his brother, threw Obi-Wan away from Savage and collapsed the tunnel so he could take his brother to safety, tending to him as best he could as the escape pod slowly descended Oxygen ran out and Maul also passed out. Maul loves his brother but doesn't want to show it to him! I think he is connected to Savage telepathically as well, as he feels Savage's fears and pain very clearly!
Maul: We're doing what I want to do! Savage: (Ignites his lightsaber) No, we're doing what I want to do! Maul: Fine. (Ignites his lightsaber) We'll fight over it! (Wins) Ha, we do what I want! Savage: (Crosses his arms and grumbles).
I think Darth Plagueis and Savage Opress together would have been the most powerful Sith of all. They both didn't believe completely in the Rule of 2 and would try to trust each other.
I think Maul did love him, just in a weird twisted way. He never knew what love actually was, and his relationship w his family is the closest he ever comes to figuring it out.
@redqueenpiece It wasn’t just the bond. It was multiple things mauls organization was growing stronger each episode and he eventually took control of a huge powerful country mandalore. Maul had an entire army of space Spartans at his disposal I would say overall they were a threat. Maul was powerful yes but not as powerful as sidious his country was much more of a threat honestly. With larger numbers you can defeat stronger opponents.

Holy hell I just realised that Savage is one of the only characters to achieve balance in the force, he was able to use primal rage for strength in the dark side but also not let him corrupt or control him, "let us share our strength" that is something that so much more along the lines of how the Jedi operate
@@cliffysilver6612 except that's not how balance works. It's a misconception that it means equalising light and dark. In actuality, balance to the Force means that the Force exists in its natural, organic form. This is the light side, as the dark side is by definition a perversion based on bending the Force to your own will. Hence why Palpatine in ROTS called the dark side a pathway to unnatural abilities. In order to achieve balance, one needs to let nature flow as it is supposed to, and since the light side is all about doing just that, while the dark side is inherently about disrespecting nature and bending the Force to your own will. People who truly achieved balance would include Qui-Gon Jinn and Yoda in his later years.

@@lowkomotivemcswagger7645 Obi Wan in episode 5X01 confronts both brothers in a 2 vs 1 fight and also manages to cut Savage's arm. Fights in Star Wars do not follow the rule of A stronger than B. Each fighter (within certain limits) can defeat another with the right strategy.
maul was pretty chill Dooku would have used lightning rather Maul just pinned him.
I think that shows how Maul doesn't want to torment and humilliate his brother, just put him on line when Savage disagrees with him.
I think that also shows how deep down he _does_ care for Savage. Out of all the people who were his Master, I think Maul was the by far the best one Savage had.
@@MrDibara Maul wasn't always bad he was just a product of Palpatine
Can we really even call this Maul "VS" Savage? It's more like Maul kicks Savage's ass. He had no chance.
or simply whop his ass
Zandris Hugal its called tatoine (or how much o and a it have)
@Zandris Hugal Well, that's really different and a special case, the director already told that all the fight was mental and in consenquence the two of them went for the killing move, like in the movie the Last Samurai, the two of them can be very matched but lost in seconds.
And people say Maul was half the man he used to be!
Quite literally
Isilmo I'm more inclined to say that he was half the man he used to be when he appeared in Rebels. Clone Wars made him more calculating, ruthless and level headed than he was in Episode I, where as Rebels showed him as an old former Sith with half the power he originally had in Episode I and even Clone Wars.
Hah that’s a knee slapper
well, literally
I love Darth Maul’s voice. It’s a constant snarl. Shows that he is rage personified
savage was lookin reeeal salty when maul put his foot on his face
Maul: "The floor is being the apprentice."
The fact that maul is taller than savage is frightening
"You are trespassing on Intergalacti-"
Gotta hand it to those droids, especially the leader since he ran towards a fricken lightsaber wielder
I think people severely underestimate me. As good as Maul is, I was much better.
@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi underestimate? You're the most overrated character. Maul has whooped you multiple times
Well that and I think I’m the end maul didn’t want to fight Kenobi anymore, I think he went there and just wanted to die, but only by Kenobis hand. That would help explain why he talked to obi wan like he did just before he died.
Ahsoka didn't beat him in a saber fight, but more like force+intelligence usage
Maul could’ve killed her and didn’t out of political choices
I remember hearing in a interview that Savage has a greater potential compared too Maul, even when he was fighting Sidious he had not picked up on a traditional form and still looked wild and sporadic where he still able to hold his own against Sidious for some time, if he and Maul stayed hidden and trained they could have been an unstoppable duo with his strength and Maul's speed
No shit, Savage though powerful had no potential as a powerful Force contender, he had no tactical patience, or logical cold capacity to grow his power.
Maul could of killed here in a minute or less but he was contemplating to many things at the moment and wanted her to join him
0:53 of corse the character voiced by the voice actor of mr.krabs would go for the money.
That’s such a hilarious coincidence
Maul is sidious apprentice before
Savage is dooku apprentice before
Their relationships just like sidious and dooku but in the form of brotherhood, the are the first pair of siths that show love to each other, that’s why I love them so much
Savage: look brother, a fortune!
Maul: not now, Mr. Krabs.
"Not as your brother, but your Master"
*Sees Savage get pierced by Sidious*
"Brother...."
Upon finding the Iron Throne
Savage: "Let's share it and rule together."
Maul: "As your master the Iron Throne is mine."
Savage ignites lightsaber, Maul ignites his.
Those voiceactiong of Mauls character is next level.
I love the security droid voice
I think what's absolutely amazing about these animations is how, specifically for lightsaber users, they're able to portray fighting styles extremely well

0:59 I can't help but feel that Savage's genuine happiness towards seeing the money is a subtle reference to another character Clancy Brown is famous for playing. If you know, you know. ;)
Savage oppresses moral compass always made me wish he was a Jedi
He was originally a good guy, then he was twisted into a monster that's quick to anger.
He would have have been much better than pong krell
If not for Maul's selfish vision, they could both be alive and stronger during the Empire and Crimson Dawn.
That was a fight?
I don't know why but i love how this scene opens up the whole season for us by giving us what we best know both nightbrothers for, slaughter.
Such a badass entrance! 0:18
1:50 when someone's talking crap and you can't take it
Maul: We're doing what I want to do!
All savage wants is for maul to love him bless him
I think Maul did love him, just in a weird twisted way. He never knew what love actually was, and his relationship w his family is the closest he ever comes to figuring it out.
@@Confusion7182 yeah u can tell when savage died maul cared about him
@redqueenpiece It wasn’t just the bond.
0:59 MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY
Man,I never realized how deep of a character savage is.
Appreciate the channel name, always got some love for darling Dr. Quinzel
A quick lightsaber duel is the perfect way to kick off a season such as this one
I mean maul was trained by the strongest being in the galaxy youd expect him to be beyond normal savage is strong killed jedi masters but hes only been out there for 2 months or less his experience doesnt even compare to a padawan.
Holy hell I just realised that Savage is one of the only characters to achieve balance in the force, he was able to use primal rage for strength in the dark side but also not let him corrupt or control him, "let us share our strength" that is something that so much more along the lines of how the Jedi operate
That's not how balance to the Force works.
@viktorcoudere well he still achieved some form of balance between using that rage but still not letting it corrupt him
@@cliffysilver6612 except that's not how balance works.
Sam witwer absolutely KILLED it as maul

The most Awesome duo ever!!!!!
I never noticed how condescending Mauls voice sounds at 1:44
Ah i love it when the guy (or in this case robot) with the gun runs towards the guy with the deadly close combat weapon. The purpose of a gun is to kill stuff at a distance, not to use it as a club!
1:49 When your friend challenges you to a game you've been playing for years.
Savage just knocking stuff off tables is hilarious. They are cats.
You, you've grown, so powerful.
They nerfed Savage so much for no reason when Maul returned. I’m not saying Savage could beat Maul but there is no way the Savage from season 3 would go down that quick
Savage didn't want to hurt his brother in the first place.
Well that was a short fight I thought the rooms going to be a mess
And we thought average sibling fights could get rough. 😂
Id normally root for Maul cause child hood memories, but I’m with Savage on this one lol

Brotherly tough love
I really wish savage didn’t die, they could’ve done so much more with him in rebels like they did with maul.
Ehh, I think it was necessary to show that Maul was going to be some type of hermit if they were going to keep him alive throughout the empire.
God I love their music
Star Wars always seems to have a habit of destroying brotherhood relations, even though each time two brothers appear, they could easily wipe out armies and topple empires with their combined strength.
Knowing Legends makes this truer 😭
The actor who voiced Maul in clone wars really did a good job
Savage: Brother, let us share our strength.
Maul: 1:33 Bitch please!
All maul was doing here was putting Savage in his place telling him who is the master and who is the apprentice. While also teaching him a lesson
Maul should have just done the same thing as the Bad Batch with Savage...trying to make it through in the Galaxy, maybe working as Bounty Hunters? Or starting their own farm bussiness on some outer rim planet, having quite a chilled life? Imagine when some customer askes them about their live stories..."Well, I was once a powerful Sith assasin and the right hand of the most powerful and most evil beeing in the universe, until I was cut in half by some sword swinging maniac called Obi Wan that ruined my entire career...I ended up on a junk-planet, then my mother and my bro came and performed some creepy magic stuff and yeah, well...suddenly there was just me and my bro and we had to find out what to do, then my bro said "Hey, why not starting our own farm bussiness, would be nice man?" and yeah, that's the story behind why we are here selling you bananas"
