Always love the little "tricks and hacks" we can all use on real world sets. Thx for sharing.
An old Kinoflo trick I like to use is aim the light slightly downward, and waterfall half soft frost/shower curtain/whatever rag down in front of it. Clip the material directly to the light. It makes the light extremely soft, similar to a large lantern. Works great with tube lights, and it’s a great way to soften up panel lights if you’re in a hurry, as well.
the podcast is great! i have listened to each episode multiple times and always learn something new after each listen
Great tip! Looking at your test footage the pool noodle really brings down the specular highlights on the face making the overall effect much softer! I use cove lighting all the time, particularly for interviews, although I call it filling from the key side! I think it can really make the shape of a face pop! Keep up the great content!
I love your practical approach and tips to cinematography! Thanks man
This is a very good Tip. I love it. Listening to your Podcast already. Well done!
Awesome, thank you!
Yup, great tip! Learned this from a gaffer this past fall and just used it on set for a music video with Asteras this past weekend. :)
THIS IS A GREAT TIP!!! THANK YOU!
That's a sweet trick! Def will try it out. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, as always, (your work in incredible) and congrats on the engagement brother! I've been shooting weddings the last couple of years and it's been fun. Not sure if you've shot weddings, but soak up the day and be present with each other as much as you can.
Truly is the fastest day of your life and likely the only day all your family and loved ones will be partying together in one place.
Cheers!
Thank you!!
I had an old foam tube with some leds from a disco, laying around my room, you gave me a good idea on how to use it in a better way!
The demand for pool noodles just went up! Great tip thank you!!
Great tip. Thank you SOOO much!!!
Awesome hack, thanks brother!
That’s such a great idea. Thanks for sharing dude!
Any time!
I did not know this, thanks a lot for this bit of Knowledge.
Definitely trying this!
Love this tip, thanks dude.
Make sure you use a color checker 😉The pool noodle light definitely seems cooler!
Your comedy, I can relate. We are responsible for our own joy. I think as long as someone can make themselves smile. That's still brings joy to the space. And joy can be contagious.
Omg the aspect ratio 👌🏼👌🏼
The Podcast is amazing, I listen to it all the time in the car. It also gets priority when new episodes drop! 🎥🎙
Thank you!
GREAT TIP!! I wonder what using colored pool noodles would do as far as the color of the tube light?! I'm going to try it!
YES!
Howdy!
I'm enjoying the pod. Interesting tip! Gonna try it
Glad to hear it!
I use my pavotubes a rediculous amount for both videography and narrative work so thanks for this odd tip!
Glad it was helpful!
This is an awesome tip! Time for me to order a couple of pool noodles for my Pavotubes.
I love this! Feel like I could confidently use my tubes as a key light with this. Might seem like a dumb question but what camera white balance would you have if the tubes are at 4000K + house lights. Been testing out shooting tungsten more but everything seems a bit too orange
great video as always
this is also cool, recently I used a muslin cloth and folded it round the tube in a way that the light from the tube falls into the fold of the cloath and it becomes a large softbox. the spill is crazy.. but it give much softer look in compact areas.
Great look as well!
Awesome tip, thank you
No problem!
Awesome tip 👌🏻 On my way! to amazon do order some of those guys
Hope you enjoy!
I sold my LED tube because I wouldn't like it to look too hard, your little tips make me want to try it again
pool noodles surprised me😂😂
it is a good technique that I think is good for low budget filmmakers like me...
ps. your jokes makes me laugh🎉
Thank you :)
Haha, pool noodles. Might get some. Didn’t know you had a podcast. Would love to hop on it one day if you’d have me ✌🏻
Same Pool Noodles are $1 at Walmart 👌 Excellent Channel 🙌
Nice one, thanks for sharing! waiting for mine
No problem
rocking the 4:3 👊
I’m enjoying it
This is genius
Thank you good sir
I laughed... good stuff.
Lmao
Dope tip!
Appreciate it!
cool job, but I think is possible fade the bottom of a tracked mask. Awesome content man , Thank you for do it.
Great tip! The second half of the video I was like WTF is going on with his neck... that line... but it's gotta be the shadow of the tube that's still on below you.
this is realy cool tip, thx you! btw my opinion, when you use 2 tubes, she have litle doble shadow... this is what i dont like but im not sure ^_^
Heya, seems like a neat little trick that almost mimics a Light Sock for Astera tubes. Have you measured how much the light loss is by any chance?
Get out! Freakin’ love this.
This is trick fire 😭
Another option would be the rstvision light socks those are cool too
Awesome tip... simple, cheap, effective. Oh, and keep telling your jokes!
Lmao thanks
The aspect on this video though 🎉
I’m enjoying it as well
Would you say get the standard or jumbo size pool noodle?
Moravian College YAYYYYYYY
I ran out of episodes to listen to im waiting for the next drop📝
Great would have need it yesterday 😅 but can’t find one with the hole in Germany
Oh no! I’m sure you’ll find one
Carlo 🤝 pool noodles
Dope technique!! How are you mounting the lights with the pool noodles?
Cardellini clamp
@@carlostigs I appreciate it
Hey! thats a damn good tip, thank you for that.
I'm just getting started with filmmaking and roughly 450 bucks for a nanlite isn't in my budget yet :D
Could you do a Budget Video for the whole Light thing?
I wish my Videos would look nearly as good as yours man.
huge props, love your videos.
Cheers Lukas.
Lol you’re in for a shocker if you think you’ll get away on a budget in cinema. The man just dropped over 100k on his latest camera setup.
If you're looking for cheap tube lights, but if you have a harbor freight tools near you they sell them for about 40 bucks for a 4 ft light! It only has two brightness levels, but that combined with the pool noodle is a great way to raise the exposure in a room with the soft light!
They also sell Apache long cases that can fit about four of them in a pelican style hardcase for $170! GREAT tube lighting set up for cheap!!
loving this 4x3 format
Same :)
The noodle technology
what the name of grip for the lamp to the tripod??
uh, i giggled at your joke 5:50
Curious . Can you put podcasts on CZcams music aswell? I'd listen on that platform coz i already pay premium to skip ads
I’ve been debating it, we shall see what the future holds
just dad humor is what it is ;)
Indeed without the dad part :)
How did you light your face for the main shot in this video?
Just a simple falcon eyes light mat
what is a video size
Are you shooting your YT videos with the Venis now?
Lol yea
BRB ordering oodles of noodles
Good ol oodles
I wonder if you could change the color of the tube with colored noodles
I imagine you probably could. Though if you're using an RGB tube light a white one works the best 😅
That’s what I would reccomend! Neutral noodles!
Gave this a try the other day. I love the softness it adds to the lights, however, our Nanlites got incredibly hot after about 30 minutes of runtime with the pool noodle on them. Wondering if anyone has ran into that same issue?
need to get a pool noodle sales commission
Great tip, I use this with our lights. More importantly... that sweatshirt bro.. Hook up a link!
Ahh I think Marshall’s
Thanks for the tips, but BRO, you either have the weirdest sun burn on earth or you use a bit to much the Face Refinement on Davinci ahah. The (from 5:26) ;)
Lmao forgot to turn the tube light off underneath me
The price of pool noodles just went up after this video😅
Following your journey like a cop staking out a con on a long con job. lol.
Lmaoo
@@carlostigs I've been shooting on Venice for a while now and excited to follow your journey and learn from yours. Keep sharing.
What's up with that Blackmagic stuff in your recommended gear? I thought you were a Sony guy??
I still use a ton of Blackmagic EQ. I just got the Sony.
@@carlostigs Ah ok... I thought you might have ditched the Venice :D
Love your vids!
Ho no! You’ve exploded to global pool noodle market! They’ve gone up to $25 for a set! 😅
I’ve heard. Apparently prices are now $40 per noodle
Good tip but this video could be maximum 3 minutes
It's $86 for a pack of 6 white pool noodles on Amazon. No thanks. Can't find these anywhere in Canada.
Sounds like you should vote for better leadership
