As discussed in the last part of this video, lighting changed the way I view the world. Has it for you? Do you stop and snap a quick iPhone shot when the light is falling nice on a particular object on the street? Let me know!🙌🏼
Oh yes. It's fun to play with when I do street photography 🤓
Helpful instruction, thank you! I was wondering what was your white balance on the camera? It seems like the image is very orange overall. Was the key light the only light that was set to daylight and everything else was around 3,200k?
Why are you wearing a hat indoors
Because my head is cold
i've watched hundereds of videos about lighting. This is absolutely curshes all. You have huge potential just keep going
Thanks so much man. This means a LOT! For real!!
Once again great content. Precise. I am glad to see that you have been gaining some traction in the last couple of weeks! Well deserved.
Thanks a lot Thomas. It blows my mind so the the amount of people seeing my content! 😅
Thank you for the awesome tips.
Lights are super important. I just upgraded mine and it make the image look so much better!
Thats great stuff mate! Lighting would be one of the main things I’d change from a budget level to a higher level because of skintone rendition and color accuracy!
LOVE what you did with the mirror and gaff tape in the 2nd setup. Brilliant. Simple and very effective
Thank you! Cheers!
What do you call the effect that you made with a gaffer tape and a mirror?
Loved this! Thanks for posting ur diagrams and for giving us a tour of your process.
Thanks man. Appreciate it!
So awesome. I love how you turn off all the sources and then bring them back up one by one. Great way to show it all happening, especially with the accompanying floor plan imagery. Please keep these going. I'm sure your subscribers will continue to grow. excellent content.
Thanks mate! This detailed stuff is something I enjoy a lot myself so for sure you will see them more often on the channel!
You are correct and I am very intrigued with creating again using lighting.
Go for it!
I am mostly an outdoor photographer/Filmmaker, so I always have been intrigued by light in general.
But recently, I became obsessed with artificial lighting, how to light a room for a cinematic look, etc.
Thanks for your video, I'm watching a lot of lighting videos recently, and yours pushed me to write a comment ahah so good job
Thanks a lot man! Appreciate it. I have the same thing, I come from an outdoor world, so recreating the most realistic light is fascinating!
Great video. I've been slowly learning how to light myself better, for CZcams videos, and your tips here were to the point.
Great to hear! Cheers man!
Thank you Sjoerd. just getting started with lighting and find this video very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
I think one of the more fun things about filming, especially a studio type set like this for a personal CZcams channel, is playing with the lighting and depth and all of that. Its like being a kid and re-arranging your room every other weekend.
Hahahaha, it’s exactly how it went man. Some nice music over the speaker and just building and messing with light stands😂. Glad I get to feel like a kid while being 26 yo
I’m learning to shape light, mostly for OCF portraits but i also do videography. I can safely say it’s the hardest thing about what we do, and sooo expensive too if you want to have full control of it. Thanks for this easy to understand tutorial!
Thanks a lot Jonathan! Appreciate it!
Great video. I like the way you break down the lighting techniques and also show what lights are actually being used. There are two other channels I follow, Andbery and Brady Bessette that use this same approach to explain how to light a scene. Love these videos keep up the good work!
Cheers for suggesting the channels Bill! Checked it out, very valuable info! Thanks for compliments!
Perfect Video, really interesting! Love the idea of the tape on the mirror. Very good idea.
Thanks a lot!
Thank you very much Mr. Wess for your thorough straight to the point animated drawling.
Big ups Mr. Wess👍
Thanks!
Really nice work! Love the gaffer tape idea. I would use a gobo, but I love that you figured out a way to use a mirror that is so incredibly flexible!
Thanks so much man! A gobo is way easier, but a lot more expensive hehe
very nice and well explained. I did help me with my light setting as I am a beginner. Thanks a lot men.
Great to hear! Good luck on your journey!🙏🏼🙏🏼
Proud to be an early sub. You’re about to blow up. Mark my words 👊🏽
Clean style, valuable info, well presented.
Damn dude. This means a lot, you know? Thank you SO much!
thank u so much! that was really helpful and educational, kind of magical to watch!
Thanks a lot man!
Loved your flow, straight to the point!
Thanks a lot mate! Great compliment
That was awesome, man. Lights are almost everything! Thanks 🙏
Thanks Ruben! I totally agree. Lights are SO important! :-)
I kinda liked the lighting at 12secs 🤣
Its not bad indeed. I remember when I was editing, I kinda thought it looked good too😂
I liked it in the opening shot 😅
Very cool! I appreciate the effort you put into this video! Thanks!
Thanks for watching my friend :-)
One of the best videos I’ve seen on lighting.
Thanks mate!
That gaff tape idea was great!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks bro! Glad it inspired you hehe!
This video is everything I needed and only has 6 minutes. Thanks for sharing. Amazing content btw
Thanks a lot!
Loved this ad! Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think... that you're my favorite filmaker, that i can watch in youtube. Thank you for this amazing content.
Thanks a lot man! That does mean a lot!!
This is got to be the best video explaining lighting I swear
Thanks man!
Awesome universal technique video! I'm not a photographer but a self-taught 3D creator with almost no knowledge of lighting, but this helped me so much to understand the theory.
Erika! Im glad you have found your way to my video. A basic understanding of lighting can definitely benefit you in your 3D modelling! Sounds good you've taught yourself. Thanks for watching!
Two years after and still impactful. Thanks
Thanks a lot man!
Dude! This is some high production quality! Just a video away from blowing up! Best of luck and thanks for this content!
Let's hope so man. But for now, I am more than happy with the massive results of this video. Thanks for your comment!
Straight to the point, loved that. Great content, bro.
Thanks a lot mate! Glad it was useful!
Yes excellent points! The same look can be achieved with cheaper lights too
Thanks dude! And yes. Definitely.
Just glad I'm here before this channel blows, another great video man👍
This makes me smile dude, haha. Thanks!
Very helpful, thank you for the in-depth explanation
Thanks a lot🙏
I loved the opening short lighting❤
Thanks dude!
@@SjoerdWess could you please showcase a dark yet cinematic lighting setup, Dark enough to not reveal the face still cinematic. Like a horror or mysterious kinda stuff.
I like the mirror and duck tape idea. Thanks.
You are so welcome!
Beautiful video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks a lot!
So much love for this video and the way it was filmed 👏🏾 automatic sub!
Thanks so much man. These words motivate me!! Wuhuuu
Your channel its just awesome, great inspiration
Thanks a lot man!
Great setup and super helpful tips! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
hey very helpful I've been leaning more about light actually and def you did great love from west Africa
Cheers!
Its amazing video with pefect exmpels. Thank you a lot!
Thanks mate!❤️
Fantastic video. Nicely done. I put some effort into my audio and my video but haven't yet done anything with lighting... I'm thinking I'll need a key light attached to a ceiling mounted boom arm so I can pull it down for use and push it out of the way when using the craft room for crafting.
Sounds like a good plan!
Great tutorial, would love to learn more about that mirror technique!
Thanks man! Glad it was helpful!
Underrated channel! Awesome videos man! Subscribed!
Thanks so much!🙏🏼🙏🏼
Lovely use of light. Cheers
Thanks so much man!
Great video man! Such a simple setup but looks soooo good. Looking forward to seeing more from you!
Thanks mate! Kind of the message I wanted to bring across. Sometimes a setting relies more on creativity than lights. 3 lights, it’s all it was :-)
@@SjoerdWess Absolutely, I 100% agree with this! Sometimes the simpler the better. Again, great stuff man!
Thanks a lot Alex!🔥🤟🏼

Maybe one day! Thanks dude!
This video is to be watched several times! I see you shooting with the 6K pro and the sigma 18-35mm! I just got mine a week ago and I’m literally blown away by the quality and features! Then yesterday I got a wide angle lens (didn’t have money for the sigma, lol), I got the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 just to start. Thanks man
Ruben! Thanks a lot man. Glad this video is helpful to you! The pocket is a phenomenal camera and I'm glad I've got one :-) Enjoy it mate!
@@SjoerdWess 👍 watching your tutorial about Davinci cause so far I’ve just touched ProRes, but Braw is the thing! Thanks for so many tips🙏

Usually 3200k! Thanks dude!
Nice video man !
Thanks man!
Small channel by the number of subscribers but BIG channel by the quality of the content. 👍
Thank you so much Joanna! Luckily the videos I make come from a deeper passion than my subscriber count, haha. Appreciate it!
Thanks!
Appreciate it a lot Jonathan!
Thank you
You're welcome
i truly truly appreciate tutorials like this. i appreciate the moving of the key light around to us what happens. great stuff man! if i may make one suggestion: when you want to highlight just one item in the diagram, you should perhaps have a red circle around it - the blurring of the rest of the diagram is fine, but a few times I couldn't tell what you wanted me to look at -- maybe I'm just going blind ha!
Carlo! Thanks a lot for the feedback. I actually appreciate it when people check my videos and help me get better at what I do. Next time ill try something different to make it more visible. I do agree it was pretty hard to see, haha :-)
Great video.
Light is the first and real and only thing that can arrive any image to our eyes.
Please, consider to do more video on light in the future. It's a very nice argument.
Thank a lot and happy new year 😊
