Glad you enjoyed
Thanks man. That was so useful.♥
You're welcome!
The blue porta potty is doing a good job as a kicker for some of those singles. Great video man!
No doubt!
saw the film in Manchester and it was phenomenal- thank you for the detailed breakdown
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, super helpful, instant subscribe
Thanks for the sub!
I like the note on the hi-lite, traditionally I've diffused day exteriors with a 1/4 grid when necessary but I'm always looking for alternative options. Nice placement of the return/neg fill I feel like I'd do the same thing
Thanks!
great video !
Thanks!
Very helpful, subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
I like rly your content :)
Thanks
Great explanation!! Appreciate your expertise on shoots like this. Also I need to figure out how you did that drawing thing in Resolve haha - Brilliant work!
Epic Pen!
@@carlostigs Amazing thank youu!!
Just found your channel, I also just subscribed!
Thanks for subbing!
Amazing works! Subscribing!
Thanks for the sub!
Such a bomb A** video 🔥🤙🏼🎥
Thanks
Thanks for amazing video, how do you draw on the screen?
🙏🏼❤️
Ciao Gian Carlo, that was a great BTS insight. Thank you for sharing!
Could you please tell us how do you draw on Davinci Resolve?
Epic Pen
drawing in resolve now?! lets goo, big level up!
Yes sir
Thank you
You're welcome
Plan on doing any videos on how to light a room for youtube videos? Not necessarily talking head shots but a shot of you working on your desk for example
Not as of now
Did u had to make some changes with the exposure values while shooting? If u didn't, how can u get some type of control on your exposure when u got clouds coming and going and just difusion (and negative) for the sun being this one your only point of light? Thanks!
Man, I have been trying to figure how to draw in Davinci resolve too just like Wandering Dp does. Can you please share how you do it now? What am I missing? Lovely tutorial as usual also
Epic Pen
Not many people talk about the high-noon look at this level. Thanks for breaking this down! Question, was there a reason why you decided to go with the 1/4 grid instead of Hi-Lite?
Thanks! And didn’t have access to it
Great video! i was just wondering what made you decide the framing on the first shot, why that much air above the heads and cutting the feet of the people in the bg?
Based off references we liked plus it was necessary to get full body. We wanted the porta potty’s to fill the frame. If we were to do full body it would have been way to wide and disconnected from the scene
I happen to like the blue blunce effect
esp the shot at 10:00
Yeah it’s pretty nice I agree
Hi Carlo, nice tutorial, thank you! I also liked the reference to the Wandering DP podcast ... I was wondering, how do you balance the colors in these situations? Did you experience any green color cast from the grass, that you needed to (white-)balance for? Anyhow, the shots are looking great!
Good question.
With the diffusion, it softened the sun so there wasn’t much return from the ground but that is something I’m thinking about. Usually, you can put a black or white piece of material on the ground
@@carlostigsThat makes sense, thanks for the reply 🙂
Great work man! There is just one question remaining: how do you paint in davinci resolve? 😄
Epic pen
so good! I'm assuming that scene was shot using all natural light ? , at what point or scenario would bring in lights for outdoor stuff ?
Correct. If you’re not getting enough punch or you’re going for a specific look that requires a more precise light
Other than these specific examples of dealing with high noon light, do you have any other tips?
These tips work for any situation really, I would take each tip as an exact but use the idea of (diffusing the over - sun) and wrapping it with a bounce (ultra bounce or a muslin) and bringing in some Neg. Maybe you might want to introduce light so adding a powerful key light through diffusion may help brighten the face (more commercial looking)
Aside from the 180 degree rule when shooting dialogue scenes is there any special way or notes you have about keeping the actors eye line looking natural?
A lot of the time in my experience, I’m sure there are more precise ways, but if we sometimes feel off about the eye line we will have the actors eyes track someone’s hand till we find what feels right. Plus it’s trying to maintain an equal distance from each subject so it can be a consistent look if that’s what you’re after
Fantastic video! I'm doing my final uni project on naturalistic outdoor cinematography. Are there any techniques you know that can help low budget filmmakers replicate the same effects in your video? As hi-lite, 12x12 grids, Ultrabounce etc. can be quite pricey.
I wouldn’t say they are pricey but they require a good crew. I would tighten your frame and do 4x4 frames which are easy, cheap and manageable
Is highlight less diffused than 1/4 grid?
Yes
Played football and baseball on that Field (Interboro High School)
Indeed!
Can you please explain the theme of the Nanlite competition
Shining Through is the theme. If you go on their website they have an in depth explanation of the completion! If you have a short film idea this could be a good chance to get some funding!
Always learning from u boss!
Glad to hear it
Thanks for the insights!
Btw the bg music was really loud and distracting on this video 😵💫
this is so good, really useful for small filmmakers, thank you for this !!
You're very welcome!
at the point where i like the video as soon as I click on it
Hahaha :)
where do i watch the film?
It’s not out to the public yet! Hopefully aoon
So how to draw in Davinci? :D
Is this out yet? Like digital streaming
Not yet!
How many days it took you guys too shoot the feature :)
22-25 days I believe
Wait so… how Do you draw in Davici Resolve?
Epicpen
I hate to do this to you but you can see the diffusion in the porta reflection. Not noticeable at all but it is there
Oh well lol
You got let me know how you figured out how to draw in Davinci 😂
Epic Pen
How big was your G&E department on this?
Not too big. Maybe 3x2? 5 total usually
Interesting illustration on the shoot good job by the way, but I do have to comment I’m looking at this on an iPhone and to be honest, I don’t even notice the highlight. It’s too small and given the circumstance that I’m looking at this nobody’s gonna notice whether you see an highlight, or not given that, if the deliverableis to viewers with iPhones unless it’s in stream close-up. No one’s gonna notice or care whether sunlight.
Not sure I understand this message but thanks
@@carlostigsthis made me laugh a lot =)
ALSO: Interesting criticization of the insights of the shoot, good job by the way, but I do have to comment I’m looking at this on a macbook and I didn't understand your message either.
when shooting on the fx3 did you shoot all intra internally or some form of prores?
embrace the 🥪
There he is… no sandwiches here
