    When light passes through something it does not become softer it it just decays faster. Softnes is achieved with source size.

      @harpenfluit Před 5 měsíci

      Then explain why the light gets softer? ;) (hint: directionality)

      @@harpenfluit In the comment above, the last sentence. Larger the source softer the light.
      But for special snoflakes i will give a deeper explanation. Due to light beign a ray it can not wrap around to fill spots that are dark so you would need a bigger source so rays can hit and fill the parts of the image.
      Small source casts rays from a small point, thus it can not hit something that is not directly visible to a source it self. Now imagine a big source that can cast rays from a plane that spans wider. What once was not visible to a light source now is in direct visibility and rays can now hit it.
      Add to it light decaying, or in other words inverse square law, and you would get that soft lighting.
      Diffusion helps to spread the light on to a bigger surface and cast it with bigger area.

    The biggest issue I have with the booklight is the control of the spill. It requires you to use more flags and C-stands. Otherwise ur scene will look very inconsistend

    • @xvlab
      @xvlab  Před rokem +1

      your right! booklighting definitely requires additional stands, nets & flags to control spill. it’s hard to beat the light quality you get from it though 😁

      @@xvlab I would say it all depends on the scene that youre going for. However booklighting a 12×12 in a smaller house is just way to overkill. Unless its a castle with big windows as motivational light. But yeah otherwise keep it up.
