I stumbled across this video and now i know it was for a good reason. After watching this i took my very first step after 3 months. I was involved in a car accident in April. Fractured both ankles. So i thank you with all my heart to give me strength and courage to take my first step today.❤🙏🏽 I'm 30 years old and survived this horrible accident, i still want to believe there is something greater for me in my future.

Thank you sharing. I am currently trying to conquer this fear. It's crazy how something that you want so much can be so anxiety filled that it creates a panic attack when I think about it. It's incredibly scary, but seeing this video has kind of restored my hope. I started tearing up as I watched it, I'm not alone! I feel a bit validated. I have always considered myself a strong person so this crippling fear is extremely frustrating, and well, scary. I have never felt such an intense fear before.

I really didn’t think too much about that first step but watching this video is an eye opening. My ankle broke in three places two months ago I have one more month before that first step. I’m in my sixties but very active reason my ankle got broken I forget that I’m not a kid anymore. Your video is very interesting I’m glad I watched it. I visualize that once I had the green light I could just walk and start driving again. In my mind I knew it was going to hurt or be uncomfortable but not like when they aligned the ankle. Thank you so much

I am recovering from a broken ankle and surgery. I was off my feet for 12 weeks and this week I was told by my surgeon that I could walk now. I got no advice, no recommendations, no "breaking it in." I tried walking with my full weight, and stopped after a very short time as my ankle and foot were very unhappy with the process. Since then I have been researching how to transition successfully into walking again. Thank you for this video

Look up Bob & Brad ankle fracture exercises. Strengthening and regaining flexibility in the ankle and calf muscles are essential.
I broke my tibia and wasn’t expecting my ankle to ache on weight bearing. It does! So I’m doing the exercises and gained a little more flexibility after 12hrs. Good luck 🦶😊

8 months finally walking! I was so terrified since I hadn't walked in 7 months!!! Then my physical therapist told me "it's the psychological part you have to get through. But if you don't do it you won't do it!" And I keep this replaying in my head as I rehab back to walking.

For me it was different. I was so excited when I got to put weight on my foot. I was happy when I got my boot and when it came off. The only down fall is that I have to continue to strengthen my foot so it will not get stiff. The only fear I have at this time is the snow and ice. Good luck everyone❤️

I got the green light to FWB after 6 weeks of partial. (first 2 weeks were toe touch, then 4 weeks of being allowed 50% but I didnt do it because I was too nervous). Surgeon today got me to take off the boot, put my normal shoe on, and take some steps with the crutches. I'm putting as much pressure as I can, but its still a slow process so he told me to practice walking and gradually get rid of the crutches... anyway, he asked if I wanted to keep the boot, I asked if I needed it and he said not really but I could use it if I got swelling.... I told him to keep the boot.
Cant rely on the boot anymore and if it was there, I'd likely use it to walk, which is not productive.

Hope you're doing well. I also had a trimalleor break, and dislocation, almost 4 months ago, and have recently started to practice walking without the orthopaedic boot, or crutch. It's a slog for sure, but I can do more with each day that passes. It's good to read all these stories of other people's recovery.

I get my cast off tomorrow (i suspect i'll be moving to a moon boot and crutches with partial weight bearing), i would just like to thank you for making this video as it is making me feel a lot more calm knowing that people have gone through the same thing. I will definitely take in mind relaxing and visualising as well as not being afraid to walk on it after a while! Thank You very much, i love your hair by the way, it is beautiful. xx

    • @casss6794
      @casss6794 Před 7 lety +1

Yes it came off yesterday (from australia so it's a day early haha), my doctor and physio said that i should keep moving it and exercising as i am young, no running or jumping for at least 6 weeks. i started slowly walking just with crutches last night, quite successful. Still making sure (especially at school) that i'm not pushing it to the point it hurts. Also, in the duration of being in the cast, i was using what's called a knee walker (similar to a scooter) rather than using crutches for comfort reasons, i'm still using it at school for the moment as i am very slow with my crutches and i don't want my injury to start regenerating slowly. Any more tips from what i've just said??? Thanks again Maya!! :) xx

hi Maya I have a important question. I broke my leg in 3 places and I had to have an operation on my leg. the original plan was to have 2 surgeries to get the screws in and then take them out. but then we got told that its better to leave the screws in for ever. the doctor said that one screw is meant to snap inside my leg and that it will just stay there and it won't irritate me. they said the people that left the screws in are doing as well as the people who didn't leave them in. they said I can walk on my leg but I will have to use crutches. so that is what I've been doing I have no cast on which am happy about as it is summer and I love going swimming but I'm still really scared as in 3 weeks I will be going back to school and I do not want to go into school on the first day with crutches.the doctor said I can put weight on it but my ankle feels stiff with after having it in a plaster for a long time. it hurst when I put weight on it that should I do?

Your op couldn't have been very long before mine, my accident was early April. The non weight bearing weeks are definitely the hardest. I'm also very aware of all the metal in my foot/ankle, and it feels like there's an elastic band around my ankle. It feels good to reach the point where I'm about to lose the orthopaedic boot, and work towards walking without a crutch or a limp

Yesterday I was given the green light to do full weight baring not partial but full after 9 weeks of no weight. I had a tri-fracture with dislocation. Had ORIF surgery. I stood on my foot for the first time today. Full weight. It was the most painful thing I have felt since I broke my ankle. The pain was all in my heel. How long before that pain goes away and how long before the pain at the bottom of your foot goes away. It feels like I'm walking on nails!

Deepu Singh hi. Very, very normal, I am at 3 months and a half, and still very stiff, 8 weeks after surgery the doctor told me to start moving foot up and down, 10 times up & down X 3, (30 reps). 3 times a days. If you can’t move foot up and down, wiggles toes, massage around ankle to get some movement around that area (what you can tolerate) Hang in there, one day at a time. Today was my first day putting a little weight on my foot with my boot, it was painful, but staying positive.

How can you do this with a 5 yr old. My son broke his leg, right above the ankle. The doc said it all healed now but he refuses to put his foot down. He has PTSD over it. He is afraid he will break it again. We have tried incensives, taking things away. Nothing has worked. He just flamingos and refused to put any weight on it without the boot. With the boot he can run, jump and even break dance. I worried the longer he wears the boot the longer it will take for him to walk on his own. I would appreciate any advice you can give.

Thank you for this. I fell and hurt my mcl in my knee and broke my fibula which and caused the bones in my ankle to move but none are broke in my ankle. I was in a cast for 8 weeks and then the doctor decided I needed 2 screws to put my ankle bones back where they needed to be. I scared to weight on my knee and ankle.

I started today. I broke my ankle in 3 different places and was non weight baring until today. I thought I would start with partial weight baring but the doctor told me to just walk with a boot. It's pretty painful and I don't feel confident that it's stable enough. I'm so scared I'll fall if I don't have something to hold on to. It just feels weird to walk again after so long (2 months of non weight baring). Anyway, I guess I'm not alone in this.

Hi Maya! It’s been 8 weeks since I broke my ankle (trimalleolar). I didn’t get surgery. I have two more weeks til my next ff up xray. I’m still non weight bearing and i hope to be on partial weight bearing after my ff up xray. I’m afraid that i might rebreak my fibula when i do partial weight. How painful is it going to be to partial weight bear?

Doing the proper exercises for the ankle and foot is necessary to regain the flexibility and strength. Sorry to hear that your doctor didn't advise you this.
      Here's what you can do.
1.) Talk to your doctor again and ask for PT sessions. I don't know how many you'll get and sadly, a lot of the times people get much less than what they need.
2.) Download the exercise guide with 7 foot stretching exercises here: bit.ly/StretchYourAnkle.
3.) And if you really want to change this then first watch the free online training about the 5 crucial things for successful ankle recovery and then join Iron Built Flexible Ankles. In this course, I'm sharing more than 50 ankle exercises that made a huge difference in my ankle and ankles of my clients: www.ironbuiltflexibleankles.com/
