- Well, my 2024 Toyota Tacoma now has a check engine light issue for a bad grille shutter. Let's hope that the dealer can fix this issue with my new Tacoma along with some other items while at its 10K service.

Curious.. what part was it?
@@n118nw A new V8
The grille shutter
@@TRDJon LOL i know that, but it is the whole assembly, sensor, or the motor?
@@n118nw Oh sorry! I'm not 100% sure
Hell no they can keep the new taco and the tundra, I never ever thought I'd ever look at a Chevy Colorado or a nissan Frontier.
any of the mid sizes are the same now , so take your pick
Frontier is the way to go now
My work has a fleet of 20ish frontiers and as a whole they have had less problems than any types of vehicles we’ve had. As a former Colorado ZR2 owner and a current 4runner owner I can say the frontier is extremely underrated and much more quality than the Colorado I owned.
@@danielpuente7059 naturally aspirated V6 still in the frontier! It's incredible
Agree, been looking at another Titan actually
This guy looks exactly like the demographic of a 1st year re-design buyer.
He also looks like a guy to immediately tear shit off and put aftermarket parts on and then be shocked when it fucks shit up on a year 1 re-design 🤣
And can't pour piss out of a boot without going on a forum for info
Well, I have my share of issues with my 24 Tacoma. Paint issues and then system malfunction failures, like TRDJon. I was without my Tacoma for 5 weeks until the paint and system malfunctions were repaired. I just got it back yesterday. My truck has only 622 miles on it - 300 of those miles are driving back and forth to the dealer. On mine, it was the air/fuel sensor and the catalytic converter - at least that is what I was told.
Thank you so much for sharing your issues with us man! Helps people be aware of other issues on these trucks
Untamed is going to have a field day with this 😂
That guy is toxic
@@Reu_agwhy
@@Reu_agwhy because he’s speaking facts about Toyota?
@@Reu_agthat dude lost his mind lol
@@victorsalinas4666It’s interesting how people that give a balanced review of something other people attach their identity to call that person toxic. If people actually listened to Untamed he is all about Toyota reliability of pre-2024 Toyotas. He has had many Toyotas within the timeframe of his channel.
$250 usd for a basic exh dump is insanity.
Curious if others will offer for less $$
Sawzall blade for the win, $5
@tackac7815 Or a pipe cutter way cleaner than a sawzall
i’d probably have to second the sawzall idea unless you wanna spend money lol
Change that oil every 5K. Dealer only changes the oil on the 2nd, 4th, etc visits.
How to know if someone did a cold plunge?
They'll tell you.
Yep! Same with CrossFit and vegans lol
Lmao, it’s pretty good though. Lol
I got 2,575 miles on my 10 month old 2023 Toyota Tacoma trd pro hoping to get 20+ years out of this truck. My daily go to work truck. I don’t trade it in for new ones. Last of the v6!
Enjoy it man! Toyota had years to perfect that one. I hope she runs forever for you!
@@TRDJon thank you! I’m coming from a 2001 Tacoma sr5! Got that one used. Figured I’d go new on this one haha. And it’s a pro.
Heck ya!!!!
@@TRDJon thanks the recall on the axle bolts checked out. All is fine
Perfect!
Glad to see you documenting the troubles instead of just acting like nothing is happening. Keep everyone honest. Nice little purchase too.
Always have man. Thanks!!!
I don't get why you can't just eliminate these stupid aero features without getting bombarded by stupid notifications. The mpg can't possibly be that big of a difference.
Just passed 3200 miles on mine; so far no issues. Manufactured at Guanajuato in April. Some guy on the 4G forum was thinking the shutter issue was mostly on the trucks coming from Guanajuato but I think you're right.. it was the first few months of productions that are mostly affected, but only time will tell. However the Tundra's had that issue too and they're built here in San Antonio TX.
Yea just dumb new tech it seems.
Purchase mine around April.. been to I say 4 car wash. Been to 3 heavy rain down pour . So far no issue with the shutters 👍🏼
Nice!
A junk turbo 4cyl is a junk turbo 4cyl, doesn’t matter where it’s built 😂
Hey Jon, why are you so quiet regarding the tundra recalls and engine issue?
I’m not. I’ve talked about it in videos prior to the recall dating back to 2022 of March when the first issue happened. I also posted the recall to my community and talked about it on Instagram.
@TRDJon, you mean regarding the faulty fuel line recall? This is totally diffrent issue !
No, I mean the Tundra engines having an issue.
I’ll be driving my new Tacoma through Destin in a month, your videos helped me in my research, appreciate what you do
Thanks for the transparency!
Always!
Thanks for this. Really appreciate you showing all the adventures but also the issues. Very cool
Glad you enjoyed it!
These Grill issues pop up on the Tundra quite often too in the groups I frequent. Toyota went the way of BMW, they liked them so much they let them build the Supra but I didn't think they'd adopt all of the bad ideas German cars had, but here we are.
Yea it was an issue early on with the Tundra in the FB groups and other forums. Some trickle in still every now and then it seems. This issue with the Tacoma seems to be the whole unit per my dealer. So I will keep you all updated on the fix. At least the truck was still drivable which was nice.
Yet another happy Toyota customer. Hopefully you bought an extended warranty because at this rate you're really going to need it
Cuz of a part that is already getting replaced? lol.
My grill shutter malfunction happened just before 3k miles, and there were no replacement parts available in the US. My dealership managed to ship one in from Canaduh, and my truck sat at the dealership for 3 weeks.
From Canada. Looks like Canaduh saved your ass
I’ve been driving my 2000 4Runner for 13 years. Now has 230k. CEL came on once for a couple weeks, then it magically fixed itself. 😂
Old school Toyota fixing itself! Haha
@@TRDJon 😂
I think that was the best gen Tacoma. That being said, my brother’s 01 had its engine completely self destruct at 75,000 miles. Seems like the rod seized and caused catastrophic failure. Half the engine was in the oil pan. Crazy!
Love that trash talk from her at the end 😂😂😂
lol 😂
She ought to know!
Those 10k service intervals make me nervous. I don’t think I could wait that long.
I do it at 1000 miles and then every 5000 or 6 months whichever comes first. I can’t imagine doing 10k changes.
Yea it’s wild. But I’ve been doing it with my 4Runner since 2017 and have had no issues
@@TRDJonCarcarenut says that’s a mistake, if you want the car to last 200,000 miles.
Ok?
@@TRDJon Meaning that if you want your car to last trouble-free to 200k you should do your oil changes at 5000 miles. I’m sure you don’t care, because you don’t keep vehicles longer that they’re useful to your channel, but other viewers who do want their vehicle to last a long time would be well advised to ignore Toyota’s recommended OCI.
I bought this truck (24 Off road) with expecting issues. 1st year out 🤷🏻♂️
Hope you get it fixed soon Jon.
That's the plan!
You can't go wrong with a Mossberg!! I love mine.
Heck ya! Solid choice!
Not to change the subject, but what is the video player you liked better to hook up to the radio? I can’t remember what video you were talking about it.
I liked the car linkit and also the binizie
Thanks for being the first model year guinea pig, keep up the great content also any update on why the Land Cruiser requires premium fuel and if you can put regular fuel instead?
So I’ve been hearing it’s not really required but ima try regular gas in it soon
@@TRDJon cool, eventually if I trade in my jeep Wrangler that takes regular for a Land Cruiser I was hoping it can take regular also since I like it to have the better MPG if upgrading, and if it takes premium that basically negates any savings
For sure! I get that
No Tacoma inventory up here in the Northeast. Florida dealers seem to have tons. I'd like to test drive one but will not buy one at this point. Keeping my 2022 TRDOR for a few more years.
When you wake up how do you decide which awesome Toyota to drive that day? Lol
Tbh, the Tacoma is my favorite at the moment! hahah
The one that is still running or not at the dealer getting fixed.
Don't buy a first year model vehicle even if it's a Toyota. Let someone else beta test them for you.
Nahhhh, i'll beta it for ya'll!
That is why I am waiting until the end of this year to purchase a 4th gen
@@TopSecretAsiantI’d wait a few years.
@@skoolynugenator1802I would but can’t need a new vehicle by January because my younger brother will be taking my car
Does truck make a small rattling noise on low rpm load condition? Like when you first shift into D.
I haven’t heard that but I’ll
Listen for it
My 22 Tundra had a grill shutter malfunction right at 10k miles. Rbey had it for 2 weeks
Hopefully it don’t take that long man’
The worst part about Toyota for the last 10 years has been their warning notifications being dismissible and IMMEDITALY coming right back up. It makes zero sense.
Right?
In a month, I'm gonna do a cross country move in my new Taco that's going to be about a 2k mile drive. Lets see how it holds up at the end of the trip as well as the coming weeks.
Ok, whats the squeaking on cold start cuz mine does it too
No idea. Idk if it’s the ac fan or what
With the complexity of today's trucks it's not totally unreasonable to have these types Gremlins pop up on newer models. The Tacoma looks like it's hold up great! My SR is still suffering from all the interior quirks and rattles and I am just waiting for the Engine Recall situation to see if it affects me and what the remedy will be, it sucks, but that's the way it flows!
For sure man. Keep us updated and thank you for the continued support!
You passed the whale mural boat shop! This Kentucky boy loves seeing that every October when we take the RV to camp gulf!!
Hell ya man!
Pretty sure my next new truck, (which will be coming this fall) is going to be the Frontier. Thanks for your videos Jon
Right on! Thanks for watching!
Did I see a Carlinkit AI box in your console? How about a video on how it works with your Tacoma? Thanks.
I did that when I picked it up a few months ago actually my friend
What do you spray under your car yo prevent rust from salty roads?
no salt in Florida
@@4af I mean when you travel.
I don’t travel to snow
After cleaning and spray paint - touch ups, Blaster Surface Shield is great.
I have a truck exactly like that. I hope I don't have that problem. Greetings from Texas
Fingers crossed!
Net/net: You don't have enough ground clearance with the current vehicle for where you want to take it. OK. Be careful where you off road in current configuration. Informative vid.
Was at the dealer last month and saw a brand new Taco with writing on the window saying “multi-system failure, dealer buyback”……..ouch.
Did you ask them at all what it was for?
@@TRDJon I wish I would have had the chance to. I do after hours drop off/pick up because of my work schedule.
do you think these problems you are facing will be corrected in 2025 year models? I really want the 4th gen to shine but so far i feel a little let down.
I hope so man. Tundra we still see some of the same issues year after year, but the Tacoma is their volume and one of their best sellers. So tiny issues year over year would not look good for the brand if you get what I’m saying
@@TRDJon i absolutely understand. i feel the same way with the tacoma being in the spotlight.
For sure man!
Made in Japan with Metal Valve cover old Toyotas still the best
Thanks for getting a camper top!!
Dude love the GFC!!!!
Truck King was testing out the new hybrid f150 and the check engine light was on
Oh wow haha
Those errors happened to mine after ~400 miles. Unplugged the battery & they haven’t come back, now at 4000mi. Edit: Not the grill shutter issue but the others that were coming up on your dash.
Gotcha!!!
I’ve had a check engine light on my 18 Camry xse v6 for almost a year lol
Drives the same, no weird noises, same mpg, no loss of power. Only reason I haven’t fixed it is because the dealer wanted to charge $10,000.😅
camrys are unaffected they are toyotas golden product aka its the best built product or else they go out of business
Concerned about the long term viability of the hybrid system, I personally would hold off at least another cycle. In addition the price is just a bit to high for these new Tacos. I think the Nissan Frontier Pro - 4x is the last of the V6.
He can fix it✅🤙
Should be a simple fix from what my advisor Jason said. Will update you all.
What is the most miles you ever put on a Toyota Truck or SUV ?
My 4Runner has 41K my old 2nd gen had 130K and my first tundra had 141K
Did you do a high pressure wash on it? The active shutter actuator electric connector (which you can see if you look down the center of the active shutter connects downward and the top of it collects water. You can add grease or marine sealant to it to keep water from collecting in the connector and causing issues. Poor design. Seal the connector or have it connecting from the bottom so it does not collect water. I only hand wash and do not spray the front with high pressure water.
I mean it did have a wash yea but it’s had plenty and never had an issue.
deutsch connectors is what they use throughout every car and truck and toyota has some of the best weatherpac deutsch connectors in the biz.. That being said if the connector and or the connector placement is poor water will eventually make its way through. Pumping the inside and outside of the connector with dielectric grease could put a band aid on it
The good thing is that this happened now and the truck is still under warranty.
For sure!
It’s crazy that I found your channel making tasteful mods to your 4Runner and it now seems like with all these new Toyotas, you’re chasing down issues. Really sad to see how common these issues are the poor quality control as of late. Hopefully that’ll change with the later models.
I’ve only had 2 real issues. Aside from that this and the tundra have been good for me.
at what mileage you do your first oil change? Im just skeptical about doing it at 5k miles and not 1k
This likely has nothing to do with the frequency of oil changes.
Well then my answer you won’t like…
@@adamsrosales6519 i know it was just a random question tbh
@@TRDJon just wanna make sure you had no issues with it doing it at 5k. Its what your channel is all about, information. Thank you!
For sure. I waited until 10K. But if you wanna do it at 5K, I see no issues with that at all
Do you have the exhaust tip hanging directly under the truck?
That's a major future Rust problem for the truck.
How?
@@TRDJon
The exhaust is very acidic. That's why all cars come with exhaust tips pointing outwards.
Hmmmm interesting. Maybe that’s why they bed is composite then
🙃
Sulfur and nitric acid are some of the gases that are very corrosive.
Your bed might survive but your frame, shocks, and any metal under the truck will rust. Trade it in after 3 years.

hey, where did you get your hat?
Thanks brother! Which one?

Jon's wife could kick the crap out of Jon! Lol
I’m guessing Toyota will have a hard time moving those Tundras. Trust In Toyota has taken a hit! Big hit! Hopefully the Tacoma will be better. I’m on my third Toyota truck and none of them have ever required a repair. I have a 2020 Tacoma TRD sport 2wd with 89,000 miles and besides scheduled maintenance I’ve only spent money on tires and brakes. This truck is solid! I’ll give the new Tacoma a couple model years to exterminate the bugs before I buy.
Nice man!!!
Have you taken it on the beach ? How is rusting so soon?
I live near the salt air and it’s exposed metal
Are you doing your first oil change at 10k miles?
Yes
Not smart doing it every 10k
Why was the cold plunge mentioned?
Why not?
Thanks for the info. This is the vehicle I want and of course they will get stuff sorted. Its gonna be hard to wait out another year to let them iron out the bugs because I want mine now !!
Bro at the end of the day, it’s under warranty. So if you don’t wanna wait, I say go for it
Ya I agree with ya and totally what I was thinking . Just not a fan of down time but I guess they would need to supply a loaner if it was in the shop for any amount of time.
If it’s down they should 100% provide a loaner of equal use
