    Hat tip to Tokumoto and Razza99 on OGS for their help in translating:
    "Hello my name is Dan, Chairman of Nihon Kiin, Go is a fantastic game. Please enjoy it with Nick. Thank you."

    One of my favorite part of Nick's lectures is that he translates the conversation of the game. How every move is saying something to the other player.

    Look forward to you playing Andrew Jackson mirror go... Open black on tengen and see how long you can hold out. Imagine the frustration you will inflict!

    Wish I had more time to invest in learning Go, it makes it more educational watching your videos. I'm quiet enamored with watching your Go Seigen videos. I really like how the matches play out. Thank you for putting these up.

    9dan pros also avoid large avalanche joseki against weaker pros because they don't want to play a quarter board joseki that would give a weaker player a lot of correct moves.
    Takemiya holds the record of the Longest Time Spent Thinking About A Move, due to a variation of the large avalanche joseki that he did not know and needed to reinvent on the spot. He spent 5 hours on a single move. After the match, he said that he will never play large avalanche again.
    In general, pros avoid big josekis that spread over big part of the board (Redmond said that in one review).

      He was just passing through Seattle, but made sure to visit the Seattle Go Center! It was just fortunate that he was there the same night as one of my classes.

      Hi. I get the first half. He introduces himself and says that go is a great game. then he politely asks everyone to do something using a verb i fail to understand...

      I only know a little Japanese, but from what I could understand he said: "please help me, I'm being held captive here against my will".
      I might be wrong though.

    What happened to the dual colored magnets you guys got recently? Hmm. Either way this was an interesting game. It's a shame that Go Seigen had that accident in the 60s, who knows how much he would have advanced this game had he kept playing into the modern era.

      We still have them; but kind of thought that the old ones actually showed up better on camera.

    Everytime Nick says the professional community thinks Go Seigen made a bad move I'm thinking well none of them are 9 dan. The only 9 dans are in this game and the one being criticized is the one that won three IN A ROW. I'd question my own knowledge of go at this point over Go Seigen.

      Doing post-game analysis is easier since there's no time pressure and you can play out variations. You don't have to be stronger than a given player to find their mistakes. For example, Michael Redmond found some of AlphaGo's mistakes, even though it is clearly stronger than any human player.

    • @kyzanhyuri5356
      @kyzanhyuri5356 Před 6 lety +2

      Great point, I love Michael Redmond's reviews.
      But one instance of criticism by the community at that time period was in another game towards a move where Go Seigen says he should have played Tengen instead of his original, so it is Go Seigen's post-game analysis. The other instance I can remember is in this video at 23:17, since the board is symmetrical and Go Seigen had used up a minuscule amount of time compared to his opponent he wouldn't have felt time pressure nor would it be likely he made a reading error. So I believe Go Seigen felt that it would be fine if white broke symmetry first. There are other criticisms that don't really convince me but I can't really remember since it's been almost a year since I last watched these games.
