      bernard_hossmoto They are not solid portal axles. Pinzgauer has a special independent suspension design (both front and rear) with double coil spring suspension. It has a unique massive central tranamission tunnel which also serves as a part of the suspension.
      The entire transmission and suspension design was optimized for high speed driving on uneven terrain while having maximum ground clearance at the same time. These vehicles can travel so fast on uneven ground and still maintain good ground contact, that most typical all terrain passenger vehicles (for example Land Rover Defender) would lose control at such speeds and swerve off the desired trajectory. This ability is why the vehicle carries the name of a thoroughbred Austrian horse species.

      Thanks for the info. Production has stopped as far as my knowledge goes.
      British Aerospace (Bae') took over production but stopped a while back.
      Up until the end it was the same VWTd engine. I just didn't know the displacement. Sounds underpowered, yes, I have a 2.4 in a LandCruiser and that is underpowered!
      The Pinz is something special.

      Yes it was build and produced by Styer-Puch as e.g. Puch/Mercedes G in Graz Austria but the main constructor was Czech who left ocupied czehoslovakia by sssr Mr. Ledwinka and he was son of another genius who disign Tatras before and after ww2 including a Tatra 97. This model was copied by F. Porsche to made a vw beattle. And btw name Styer Puch come from region styer and from founder name Puch and he was Slovenian

    Great 4x4, 6x6 Vehicles maybe better then Unimog just!!??? definitely better then the Land Rovers or Jeeps, Volvo 4x4's nearly the same quality.. NICE !

      D' ARTICULATE A close run thing. Unimog better ground clearance and in some situations the larger wheels would help.

    • @Strange-Viking
      @Strange-Viking Před 7 lety

      Clive Sinclair unimog is way more powerful but top speed on the road is half that. Unimog is more offroad but pinz is everything else and it does compete with uni. so pinz in my opinion is better

      Better in which regard?
      It's stupid to say something is better than another, when these are total different animals:
      Pinzgauers are very small, 710 just over 4 meters, very light, roughly 3 ton. Unimogs today are ALL over 7.5 to category -- so how to compare? A truck with 2.3 meters height to a truck with 3 meters? A truck with 235/85-16 to a truck with 20“ wheels like 12.5“???
      A Mercedes G even in military category had a 2.8l cdi engine and lot of power, a Pinzgauer 710 had roughly 80 HP. If you need to go “fast“ a Pinz is not an option.
      So in which regard is it better now?

    • @ErikDJ123
      @ErikDJ123 Před 5 lety

      Runs circles around slow unimogs, and small enough to fit on tight forest trails. I can drive my pinz 710k faster offroad than most unimogs can go onroad.

      Tatra make vehicles with similar chassis and suspensions so you may make the connection because Tatra was under the old USSR.
      There is a connection between the Tatra design and the Pinz
