  • On today's episode of Ancient News, James from the Ancient Beat Newsletter (ancientbeat.substack.com/) brings us his favorite stories from the week's headlines:
Pollen samples indicate that the Khufu Branch of the Ancient Nile may have been used to transport stones to the Giza pyramid complex! Evidence of an organized agriculture banana plantation has been found in the Torres Strait between Australia and Papua New Guinea that is 2000 years old, challenging our perception of these peoples as hunter gatherers! The incredible archaeological site of Sanxingdui in Central Asia continues to deliver more spectacular finds, including a 300 pound bronze creature from 3000 years ago! The Iceni Celts of ancient Britain and the Etruscans share one thing in common in two new papers: a resilience in the face of Roman occupation and victory against cultural erasure! And finally, a blockbuster trio of new papers on the origin of Proto-Indo-Europeans has sequenced the genomes of 727 ancient peoples who lived over the span of 10,000 years in the region (including the famous Griffin Warrior of Ancient Greece) and found that the expected Yamnaya DNA was not found in Anatolian samples!
These six stories are just the tip of the iceberg at Ancient Beat! Do him a favor and SUBSCRIBE (ancientbeat.substack.com/)

Always interesting, plus ancient history is much more relaxing to watch rather than current events. It makes for a pleasant break in the day.

Don't trust to SAMA they have lied about etruscans, croats, serbs, slavs, illyrians, and phaistos disc. The real truth about mentioned things has been revealed long time ago,and its all conected with slavs. The 'italian etruscans' that SAMA is lying about, are actually russians, whos name comes from slavic words Eto Ruski=Here Russian. The 'Rasenna' people from italy are serbs from serbian region of Raška/Rashka,and they were called Rašani/Rashany.'Albanian Illyrians' are actually serbs, who has get theirs name from serbian god Ilija/Ilia,the god of rain and thunder. And the Phaistos Disc was created by the russians, and translated by the russian professor Grinevich. And now here something about 'croats',the 'croats' are forcefully converted serbs to catholism,in middle ages. And croatia didn't existed in 7th century, but it was created from serbian civilization in the middle ages. And albanians are not offspring of Illyrians, becouse albanians are imported in europe by the islamic general George Maniac,in year of 1040,as the additional soldiers for islamic army. And the only reason why albanians are living in europe, its becouse serbian king who has aloud them to settle in serbia, becouse they where homless after defeat.PS:And their is in total 10.700 years of slavic history, and this was just small peace of it.

It's incredibly easy to locate and verify locations of ancient water-sources, whether they're natural or artificial.
There are a few interactive flood maps online, where you can raise or lower the water level.
When it's at specific heights, artificial docks can be seen all along the Nile.
It can be a bit 'back and forth', but locating each (where possible) dock/port near each relevant causeway can help indicate many things, water levels, drought/famine/era etc, and in some places, has shown me a few locations where there might possibly be remnants of temples and other structures close to water-sources which show the same alignment as other Egyptian high-status sites, helping narrow down construction dates.
(there's at least two undocumented sites around the Fayoum oasis, and a good few all down the Nile)
Have a look and then pick your jaw off the floor!

Any suggestions as to which maps to use? It would be great if Google Earth had specific overlays that would make water levels interactive including ice sheets/historical sea levels etc as well

Thanks for these updated findings. While we may never know the full story, of archaic and ancient human history, much of it can be correlated within a sociological context of the oral historical stories, legends, fables, that have been passed down. Until being included in surviving narratives. The genomic aspects do have their place to confirm hypothesis’ regarding such narratives and the evidenced backed notions of cosmologists. If it is included, regarding the genomics of the agricultural spread in the mideast, where were the samples used, found that indicates a spread from the northwestern region of Iran known to some ancients as Arrata. It would also be very interesting to hear if geologic core sediments have been taken from that region, extending back to Circa 6000 BCE.

Is there evidence of human habitation in the Faroes or only of sheep habitation? It seems possible to me that sheep might have survived a ship wreck and inhabited an island (or more, depending on the geography) without human help.

The time line doesn't fit, but they may of landed on that island to resupply, because this story took place in 1170. A Welsh poem of the 15th century tells how Prince Madoc sailed away in 10 ships and discovered America. According to a 16th century story, Welsh prince Madoc was the first European to see America in 1170. The story goes that Madoc, a younger son of Welsh king Owen Gwynedd, fled his country with a group of colonists and sailed west. The story claims that Madoc and his brother Riryd sailed from Aber-Kerrik-Gwynan on the North Wales Coast in two ships, the Gorn Gwynant and the Pedr Sant. They are said to have landed in what is now Alabama.
According to legend, Prince Madoc landed on the Gulf Coast in 1170, and his party settled in the Southeast or on the Missouri River. The group is said to have given rise to a race of light-skinned, blue-eyed, Welsh-speaking Indians, often identified with the Mandans. The Mandan tribe is often associated with the Welsh legend. The Mandans claimed Welsh ancestry and spoke a language similar to Welsh. They were also described as white men with permanent villages laid out in streets and squares. At least 13 real tribes, five unidentified tribes, and three unnamed tribes have been suggested as "Welsh Indians".
I heard that Thomas Jefferson had Lewis and Clark keep an eye out for Welsh-speaking Indians
From Thomas Jefferson to Meriwether Lewis, 22 January 1804
I now inclose a translation of that journal in full for your information. in that of the 13th inst. I inclosed you the map of a mr Evans, a Welshman, employed by the Spanish government for that purpose, but whose original object I believe had been to go in search of the Welsh Indians, said to be up the Missouri. on this subject a mr Rees of the same nation, established in the Western parts of Pensylvania, will write to you.
