    Great video, made it simple just like you were wanting to. I'm working on a 9.9 1981 Johnson, coils test, ran momentarily real good in the barrel, was smooth but fadeded away to a no run no start and no spark, and have never been able to get it to hit again. Finally Ordered a power pack today. Frustrated. I thought I was gold after the start up. Cleaned the entire fuel system while waiting for parts.

    I feel your algorithm pain, man. Just a tip...less crack, less energy, less stress. LOL. My el cheapo multimeter only has one omega setting for ohms. When I test the numbers change all over the place and it switches from M, K, to nothing etc. Drives me bananas. I got what I paid for. Just a suggestion. Shoot multiple takes from various angles and zoom in one time and stay panned out, then edit the best shots. Don't try to do it all at one time in one shot. Your audio was good. Glad I found your channel and this vid.

    Hi, im ignacio from buenos aires, a have a 1981 evinrude 9.9, thanx for your video, i already check the spark coils and they are fine, but a can't get any spark, how can i test the power pack?

    • @gdamtbnms
      @gdamtbnms  Před 3 lety

      you cant lol. there are some tests you can do but testing the conductivity of the wire leads but your best bet if you have eliminated all other possibilities is just buy a new one.

      @@gdamtbnms Thanks. I did that and because I didnt trust my multimeter completely, I also swapped my ignition coils (one at a time), spark plugs, spark plug wires, and powerpack with my other johnson (50hp) that has spark and it turns out spark continued to show. This rules out all named components from my "no-spark issue." Where should i look next? Please help, THANK YOU!

      Yes, I have confirmed coils/powerpack/spark plugs/plug wires are all working fine. I just don’t know where to check next so thanks for the input. I’m a rook so all I’m doing is based off of CZcams infos. I took the flywheel off and this motor (Johnson 25hp electric start) doesn’t seem to have points on the plate under the flywheel.

    First you don’t need to remove them to test ! Second it should read 235 to 265 so yours are good third your not asking the right people and calm down bud it’s a outboard not the space shuttle ! Lol. Go on CZcams and ask Old Johnnyrude ( he’s a mechical engineer ) your questions or me or Chrysleroutboarddude ( one of the best outboard mechanics I ever met ) or Ron Baker ( very very good outboard tech ) we all can answer your questions !

      I got a question for either of you. I have a 9.9 1996 evinrude. Last year the thing would start but throttle weird and putter at the start, then after a few minutes run fine. And the end of the year it wouldnt hold an idle. It would run on eether but not gas. I completely cleaned/rebuilt carb, changed fuel pump, replaced fuel line, new gas tank and gas/oil mix, new spark plugs.
      I got it to start, it idled rough for about a minute, then died. Now, theres no fire at all whatsoever. Plugs wont fire. My last resort is changing ignition coils maybe?
