      The thing that’s so great about Blackwater is that a lot of the best stuff is away from the battle. Cersei’s interaction with Sansa is great and Lena Headey’s acting is terrific. There’s other good stuff between Tyrion/Varys and Bronn/Hound.

      Honestly saying these scenes needed to be cut down is one of his worst takes imo. The battle is fine but true character development was happening in the Sansa-Cersei scenes. This scene should have been pivotal to Sansa’s arc (if the show had handled her properly in season 7). She was supposed to learn the game with skill on the level of Littlefinger and these scenes were her first lessons. Plus it was proof that
      Cersei felt like she could very much relate to Sansa rather than hating her. Sansa was just a tool to Cersei half the time, but there were flashes of empathy because she could see herself in Sansa.

    I have to put 6x10 because I loved how they handled the beginning of the episode. The tension building up, the realization that something's definitely off, and the viewers' realization that whatever's about to happen, Cersei's already won. Pycelle getting murdered, Margaery trying to get everyone out because she's the only one who knows Cersei's up to something, and then Lancel being the first victim of the wildfire before the Sept of Baelor is destroyed. Cersei's response to Tommen's death in this episode and 7x1 show how far gone she is at this point. Also Arya killed Walder Frey, another one of my favorite scenes, and Daenerys finally set sail for Westeros after years of building up her army and liberating Slaver's Bay.
    I have to go with 3x9 as a close second because the Red Wedding was done so well in the show. The Rains of Castamere starts playing and Catelyn is the first to realize something's off before shit starts going horribly wrong, and it's one of those scenes you have to rewatch after the first time because out of nowhere, Robb and Catelyn have just been murdered. Robb is another character they were starting to build up as like a hero, and even though Ned Stark died two seasons before, despite Robb's mistakes, it felt like he was safe and if anything, he would die in battle.

And Danny finally setting sail always gives me chills. But the scene that gets me is in Winterfel when Liana rips into the northern lords and names John king in the north. Freaking chills!!! Sure the episode had some weak scenes, but I still love it.

    Mountain and the Viper is my favorite episode by far my favorite episode in the entire series. Dany's reaction to Jorah being a spy, Theon's tragic dissociation at Moat Cailin, Sansa taking her first steps to becoming manipulative and lying in the Eerie to protect Littlefinger, and of course, the perfectly done subversion of the David and Goliath trope, where Oberyn's arc ends in a horrifically beautiful way in his duel against Ser Gregor. I love every second of that episode, but that's my extremely subjective take.

    • @sharonpopolow6874

      That fight scene was the best in the whole series. Oberyn Martell was a warrior's warrior. If he had just a bit more humility, he would have left as the definitive winner and had been both avenged and alive. I hate watching him taunting the downed Mountain, knowing what that carelessness would cost him. May all of us learn from that scene a lesson on humility and precaution.

    Without Blackwater, we never would've gotten the increasing budget for each Season. On one hand, we got The Battle of Castle Black, Battle Beneath-The-Wall, and Hardhome sequences which were all amazing. On the downside, the show became too action oriented and we got the abysmal Battle of The Bastards, Battle of Beyond-The-Wall, Battle of Winterfell, and Battle of King's Landing. Damn tragedy that D&D went for spectacle rather than good tactics.

      @@mrtom2854 It was dumb. Jon was dumb, Sansa was dumb, everyone was dumb. Jon knew better than to charge the field alone, Sansa knew better than to hold back that another force was coming, even Ramsey, insane as he was, knew better than to waste so many troops in a grindfest; we saw him execute a fine cavalry charge and encircling attack against Stannis.
      It could have been great. Sansa admits that she contacted the Vale and got word back that they're on their way, tells Jon what's up with Littlefinger, and they meet the Vale forces and have process in their own ways that they have to ally with this slime to retake their home. Then do the attack, have the tragedy of Rickon but hold firm, then soldier forward and hold until the Vale executes a suprise attack as the Boltons commit and wipe them out, while Jon finally loses it and charges through the fray to catch the fleeing Ramsey, finally the fox being chased. But Sansa acts as the master to Jon's hound and claims the right to put an end to Ramsey, and the title of Lady of Winterfell, cutting half the "I don't want it" BS in the cradle.
      And that's just one vision. There's any number of ways it could have been executed better, and avoided groundwork for so many of the annoyances of seasons 7 and 8, like Littlefinger skulking around biding time until they kill him.

IMO this has the 2 best dialogue scenes in the whole show: Littlefinger's "chaos is a ladder" with Varys, and (the best scene) Tywin and Olenna matching wits negotiating Loris and Cersei's marriage. Plus the actual climb and kiss atop the wall, Joffrey killing Ros, Tyrion telling Sansa they are getting married in front of Shae, and a great character development torture scene for Ramsay. An hour of brilliance.

    I actually liked the scenes of Cersei and Sansa during Battle of the Blackwater. They showed that Joffrey and Cersei could not break Sansa of her compassion. All they did was teach her how to more adeptly navigate around her captors and not get herself killed in the process. They showed that, for all her bluster, Cersei was the scared girl while Sansa was showing real leadership by keeping the other noncombatants calm and encouraged during the battle.

    Cersei’s scenes during “Blackwater” were some of my favorite scenes in the show. I guess it really depends on who your favorite characters are. Cersei was one of my favorites, until the faith militant put her through the walk of shame and cut her hair. After that, her character changed, and she just became less human and more hateful. It was hard to connect with her after that.

      @Captain_Insano_nomercy Před rokem +3

      It's interesting because I always hated her and the walk of shame was so satisfying. Mind you I read the books first, and the character is way less likeable in the book

      @@Captain_Insano_nomercy I wholeheartedly agree. Cat Tully is far less likeable to me in the books as well. I sincerely wish I could read all of Book 6, because I view the later seasons as lazy fan fiction writing rather than capturing the spirit of the books and George Martin's world
