WHEN A TV INTERVIEWER pointed out to Michael Schumacher that his victory in the Italian Grand Prix in September was the 42nd of his career, surpassing the number of wins earned by the late Ayrton Senna, the German driver broke down and cried. For the first time, the world saw the human side of the icy Schumacher. - Sport
A Champion cries for a champion... very touching.
Mika, a gentleman.
Two great men paying respect to an even greater man - pure class from MS - If ever happen to have an accident that eventually costs me my life, I hope it is in one go. I would not like to be in a wheelchair. I would not like to be in a hospital suffering from whatever injury it was. If I’m going to live, I want to live fully, very intensely, because I am an intense person. It would ruin my life if I had to live partially - Aytron was granted this, sadly Michael not ..
5 years ago wow😊
Mika, also a champion.
You guys do know that Micheal was the car right behind Ayrton when he died at imola, right? That's why it was so imotional
I just wrote emotional with a i. Wow
And realised 11 months later...
+Camron Davis yeah, big mistake! But I forgive you.
It was more emotional because he felt partially responsible for pushing him so hard. He clashed a few times with Senna, with Senna even accusing him of cheating. Off course he didn't have any fault, but i think it just burst out on that particular moment when he realized he got that record...
i think michael and mika got podium after senna crashed.. and mika was once a teamate of senna..
"I had one hero. His name was Ayrton Senna."

They mentioned that a few years ago at Top Gear.
Ayrton, fangio schumacher legends
Mika being a gentleman, as most Finns are. Hope to have you back Michael!
Kapil Chhabria I though he was German I'm probably wrong but his name means shoe maker
Zac Casey He means Mika Häkkinen, left to Schumacher. Häkkinen is Finnish but Schumacher is German
Also, if it matters, they're both human beings.
Well, I wouldn't say Raikkonen is much of a gent hahaha
@@Mirozenx well, he's shy
I can feel how painful it is for an Ayrton Senna fan to get a question like that when the driver knew that he was behind Ayrton before he died and saw him crashing into the Tamburello turn. Schumacher you a true legend and a masterful driver. Get well soon. All of your fans are praying for you !
You said it perfectly
Get well soon
Well u can’t say all of his fans are praying for him, speak for yourself mate, I mean praying for him never crossed my mind and I’m his fan
So… you’re saying you’re an a**hole?
I'm not a Brazilian but Ayrton Senna is for me, till today, the greatest driver I ever seen. So many years after his death he make me crying untill today. I miss Ayrton, We miss Ayrton. Forever
Agree
I'm Brazilian, Ayrton was - to me - the most talented, but not the biggest for the sad reasons we all know. RIP, Ayrton, we miss you forever.
Obrigado por suas palavras.
I WISH A QUICK RECOVERY SCHUMI. WE ALL LOVE YOU HERO.

Considering how Ralf looks stunned in 0:51 looking at his brother, we can assume it was a very rare strongly emotional moment for Michael Schumacher.
Interesting. I read it as him knowing not to console/touch Michael when he cries because of past learnings.
I used to get up early to watch F1 with my dad when I was little. I remember him telling me about Schumacher- I was like 7, so the only thing I knew about the drivers was the colours of their cars. My favourite colour was red, so you can guess who I was always rooting for. Schumacher was a big part of my childhood. I wish him all the best in his recovery.
+Frances Nolan I was playing with Lego on sundays, and watching F1 at same time with my dad and uncles.
Me too! I remember crying with Dad when Ayrton Dad. I an 31 now and I still cry when i remember. .
same to me!!
I was 11 when Senna died. Was an avid fan of F1 back then and coming from Britain, the BBC had the coverage. Watched that whole weekend. Barrichello's crash, Ratzenberger.....then Senna. Schumacher was driving for Bennetton then, Prost had retired so I knew Schumi would become Senna's new rival. And even though Damon Hill was British, Senna was my favourite. I was so glad when he moved to Williams.
THAT Sunday I watched it with my dad. After the crash, Murray Walker said that Senna's head moved so that gave us some brief hope. But even I knew it was a bad crash. I remember screaming at the TV because the camera was on a helicopter overlooking Senna's car. The marshalls were just standing round and I kept shouting at them to at least check on him. Just do something instead of stand there. Sid Watkins, the doctor came along shortly after in the medic's car. And the damn camera kept focusing on Senna as he was carried out of the cockpit and lowered on the floor. Senna's flameproof overalls were cut and you could see while the medics pumping his chest. Then, blankets were unfolded to block the cameras view. Senna was airlifted out....and the race was restarted. Something told me then that Senna was gone. But we didn't get an official announcement until later. When we did, I walked out of the house, went to a quiet spot and I cried. I'm not ashamed to admit it.....I cried and cried. I didn't watch another race until Australia that year. I couldn't imagine a starting grid without Senna's yellow helmet brightening the grid up. Sorry for the long comment....just wanted to share my experience that day. I'll never forget it.
I did exactly the same thing, both my father and mother were in favour of Alonso back in the day, so I hated every time Alonso or the other Renault ended ahead of any Ferrari
i remember this, i was shocked back than by that journalist who dont care at all and keep asking unimportant question when that crying answered on all of them.
021liman he just try to help. Becouse if you put all eyes on Schumi in that moment it would get just worst. Its not polite to ceep watching while he crying..
Senna & Schumy Great Heroes of F1

And why should he?
+Shak MoobLivion because Schumacher looked up to senna and he died right in front of Schumacher
aacosta1697 Yeah no shit. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. I was saying to someone who he should "Stfu"...
Gotta praise the hero of this clip which is Mika... he consoled Michael before his own brother even did and politely asked the reporter to pause asking questions because Schumi was clearly upset. And all out of compassion for his greatest rival, what a chap!
You idiot
And Mika was there that day. Ralf was not at Imola.
Mika was on the podium with Schumi that day so he knows better than anyone how much this meant to him
Many thought that Schumi had no feelings, that he was a "robot". But in real life he was an emotional guy. Gerhard Berger said that initially he took MS for arrogant, but it soon changed after he had met with Schumacher and they had had a long conversation with each other.
When MS learned the news of Senna's death he burst into tears, saying that it was his fault. Here he was reminded of his late Brazilian rival and the sad memories came back.
yea definitely he felt bad maybe because he had remember what he did on the french gp in 1992 to him and his cheating mainly on senna's home country, brazil, senna were such a good guy unfortunately almost no one know him has senna outside brazil just as good racer
He is not a robot --he is german, and as such, inherited a limbic system that has been conditioned by northern climate, dark ages, lack of natural resources and human affection (as compared to tropical zones), wars, violence, and segregation.
ya robot
@@fernandolk4536 and your country lacks a good health care, employment, a stable economy aaaaand...money ! Therefore all the immigrants come to germany...not for affection, climate and your wet dreams about southern countries. :)))
Well, he cried partly because of his memories of Senna..and partly because in this very race where he equalled Senna's victories, a track marshall died following the huge pile up at the second chicane, don't forget about that.
and not froget the heart attack of his father
I couldn't watch this without shedding a tear..

Wow, what a coincident that Mika and Micheal were on the podium on the day Senna died.
and what do you think of michael mother she did in 2003 the imola grand prix
mika ještě žije .....
What about Larini being second ? The guy did only one podium in his entire career and it was the day Senna died
@@SenseiDenax im sure larini is fine with his legacy. he was spectacularly fast in touring cars and everyone knows hes a seriously talented driver who really didnt get the opportunities he deserved at the top level for whatever reasons. i doubt whether or not he got one podium in a ferrari sub role is that important to him. though admittedly im not italian so maybe i dont understand
there really were so so many young italian drivers in the late eighties to mid nineties who by unluck were completely squandered in terrible chassis and had their reputations ruined. larini, pirro, tarquini, morbidelli, sospiri, apicella, capelli. even pantano who came a few years later couldnt get anywhere
I was like 9/10 years old, I clearly remember this situation: two seconds after Michael, me and my mother started crying a river. We are raised with him, with Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve, Mika Hakkinen. I felt like this victory was almost mine, I was like "oh my God, we did it. We did it". Even now, my eyes looking very tearful.
***** awww don't call yourself such ugly vile names you poor thing
Because of Senna. Schumacher and Hakkinen were racing during the race of Imola 1994, Schumacher was 2nd about 2 seconds (if not mistaking) behind leader Senna when Senna crashed. Schumacher ended up winning the race and Hakkinen 3rd. Schumacher talked about Senna after the podium. And Schumacher here was really sad and crying, same for Hakkinen but kept his emotions much as he can, I like Hakkinen's response, couldn't even talk too so instead he says "can we have a break?" classic one Mika! ... By the way, every time I meet or see a Schumacher haters, it always happens to be Britains.
GTR-LMP I'm British and love the man
Oh my bad man, you're right about that, I must have mistaken with another event or something. What happened was, all 3 men on the podium didn't know at the time (some say they knew, some say they didn't) they knew when doing the press conference, that's when Michael talked about it.
GTR-LMP GTR-LMP not sure where your hatred of British people comes from but let me tell you as a British person Michael was adored by huge numbers of British fans the only case in British fans having a disliking to Schumacher was due to his rivalry with Damon Hill .... NOTHING ELSE he is respected like no other in the UK that's for sure!
Harry Banks Yes ok you are right, what he meant is obviously not all of them. But I'm telling you myself too I have seen a few too.
GTR-LMP 👏👏👏👏 and i 'm from Portugal.....ahahah ahahah they are the best ever....🍻✌🍻✌
Schumacher and Senna deserve respect . Made many people happy for the simple fact of driving a car . Never forget that what matters is to make a person feel happy ....
Never seen Michael like this, so vulnerable, so human. Sometimes I forget that behind the straordinary, almost machine like, driver, there is a human (and what an human!) like this.
Yes. . Thats a great man, cries for a great man... They make life beautiful. 👍💛
hakkinen has been a really big man after what he did in this interview!! champion inside and outside the track
indeed he was/is
Mika is such a nice guy. I love him, how he cares about Michael's feelings... Great Sportsman!
i saw how he congratulated Michael after losing out the champtionship at 2000 in the final race by 4s. He's a real sportsman.
Repugnante o que o destino resguardou a essas duas lendas do esporte. Senna e Schumacher serão eternamente lembrados.
For Ever will be Senna and Michael the best drivers ever in history in Terms of real speed humanity and personality😢❤
Rest.In.Peace Ayrton Senna, The F1 community will forever ever miss you as the greatest all time, we will never have a person like again
15.5 years... feels like last week...
Was at Monza that day, at the Ascari chicane. A guy was killed at the race start. Schumi won, took a decisive advantage for the championship (the first for Ferrari in 21 years) and equaled Senna's wins. What an unfortunate, emotional weekend it was
Senna forever the best driver in the world.
Schumacher = schmutzig
Schumacher is a legendary pilot, I'm a big fan of him since when I was a kid. But when I watched Senna racing for the first time and all his victories and pole positions, I realize he's simply the best pilot of the Formula One history. For the time, he did the impossible, he was the perfection in skills. If Senna was alive today, certainly Schumacher would never surpass the number wins earned by him. But still, Schumacher, a great pilot, both him and Senna deserve the best always, wherever they are!
+Pedro Poyares i think senna couldnt surpass scumie's wins but he could have taken atleast on drivers title in 1994 when scumi got the title for 1 point against damon hill who was a team mate with senna before he died and as you know senna was way better than hill so he could probably won that drivers title
Senna
Do you really think Senna was equally talent to Prost? In that time, with that kind of equipment, pushing the car to its limit, flying in the rain and get the pole, that was pure talent, no way to ignore that, Senna was unique IMO.
think senna was the most unique driver.. and he was way more talented than prost dude.. cmon.. but in terms of sheer consistency and being able to have the balls to not only sit in a car but set it up micheal is GOAT.. he could have waited at renault but he came to ferrari and made them a beats again.
How did Senna always sign for the best cars?
Poignant how both Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen were on that podium on that fateful race day in 1994...
Assoluta And somehow cruelly ironic that Michael is hospitalized as well thanks to a formula crash.
nitro836 Michael was hospitalized due to a severe skiing accident not a formula one accident
nitro836 Idiot
Michael broke down into tears and it looked like Mika was about to.
LAST LAP Champion! You can do it again!!!
haha nice one!
Schumacher is a class act for the sport and the greatest driver in F1 history, but even he knows what Senna might have accomplished had he lived. He was great too.
There is so much going on on this clip. The immense pressure of having to finally deliver for Ferrari. Six races without a win and another championship seemingly going away. This race was the turning point, he won the next three races and got in the position to finally clinch the title in Japan. Also winning at Monza in front of the Ferrari fans, remembering Ayrton, realising the level he has reached by equaling his number of wins and how much pain, effort and dissapointment it took for this to happen, all the emotion burst out. The man worked like crazy to bring No.1 back to Ferrari only to see his dreams shattered year after year. Most of the time he had to push beyond what his car was capable of and yet there he was at the top step of the podium equalling Senna.
They weren't friends but I believe they had great respect for each other and just knew how good each other was. I believe Michael's idol growing up was most likely Stefan Bellof but Ayrton was his great rival.
This shows what kind of human being Micheal is, falling in tears with his brother next to, like he was there to take care of him. So pure and simple, gentle, man. And when they asked him who's the best in the game, he always answered Ayrton. We love you Schumi ❤
real F1 champions.. passion, respect,
Look how much class Mika shows. On nower day, look what we got in the f1. Guys like Hamilton, Rosberg, so on...egomanic little boys. I muss the old times with Trulli, Michael, Mika, Coulthard and many others.
RIP F1.
First8 _ Take dipper boy. Rind, vilnev, hunt, and other
First8 _ Verstappen though :D
Erike1999 the old one.
Bloody hell! You're talking about my times and my boys as the "good old days". Sportmanship prevails always. It's only the bank accounts that change. They're bigger now and kids are bolder or is this just in our imagination. I remember Nikki Lauda saying at a time, must've been nineties, that a chimp could drive an F1 car. At that time, approx. 1993 Williams did put out a car with automatic gearbox, a first in F! history, soon banned, too. But Nigel Mansell, the great British champion of 1992, does bear va slight resembelance to Stephen Fry in Blackadder goes IV so... I don't know where I was getting to with this post but your comment must be most unvalid.
what an awsome moments is this one, remembering to an idol who teaches humanity and following it's legacy, that's something that doesn't have words.
More than an idol Senna was a Brazilian hero. He carried our flag every victory in a time when Brazil was far from being a world power.
He left a great legacy, its foundation: Instituto Ayrton Senna, which still helps many Brazilian children.
A fantastic human being inside and outside the circuits of Formula 1
stay with us Michael :(
Jeez, the interviewer just sounded like a robot and didn't show any compassion.
Well he was German :D
navanit kamble No definitely not! That is 100% no german accent
And Hakkinen what a class act " can we take a break". That's character right there.
Mika's such a class act! Although they were fierce rivals, he still had Michael's back 🥺 I think Ralf was stunned, that's why at first he didn't react, bc Schumi just didn't break down like that, it was unheard of - but it was just all too much n the emotions got to him.. Thankfully he was between friends that day, who knew n understood... My God, how I miss you Schumi❣😭
A pure champion, legend. Cheers from Brazil.

Those aren't tears of happiness, those are tears of sadness and grief. Schumacher raced with Senna for years, they got along fine and this was extremely emotional for him

I have a new respect for Michael Schumacher. In that moment you can see how much the legacy of Senna meant to him.
Great respect for such a reaction. Schumi is not only a wonderful driver but also a sensible and respectful man. Great person! All the best to him.
Schumi and Micka, great spirit, awesome drivers !

Here after watching the Schumacher documentary on Netflix. This clip suddenly makes a bit more sense than the last times I had seen it.
You can hear in his voice right from the start that he knows what he's done. The question just makes it hit home
Interesting Mika was the first to reach out to Michael, long before his brother, Mika is a great human being.
Still one of my favourite driver interview moments ever, and maybe the most sad. I cry everytime I see this clip
To this day, every one who ever saw Senna do miss him. I cannot imagine how much his mates miss him, but I know I do quite a lot.

Ayrton and Michael are the greatest I will see in my lifetime. #KeepFightingSchumi
***** Cant say I agree friend. In Ayrtons last year with Mclaren in 1993, the MP4/8 car was down on power by around 80bhp compared to the Williams Renault of Prost, yet Senna still won 5 races. In Michaels first year with Ferrari, the car was an absolute pig, yet he won 3 races. Thats the mark of a great driver. Vettel is good, you have to be to win 4 titles, but lets see how he does when he doesnt have Adrian Newey in his corner.
***** Talented who? Did you see these races? Sebastian was very kick-assed by Ricciardo, nothing to do with michael or ayrton
the cars are pretty much the same, cmon..
Ricciardo has demonstrated with great comebacks that he have talent, in most of cases he was faster than vettel and remember there has also been the absurd penalties
***** Your argument is so pointless... you say Vettel showed his talent in Sauber BMW and Toro Rosso, later you say Senna only won titles in McLaren (the best car)... well, did Vettel win any titles driving a bad car? No. Your point is invalid.
ayrton senna the king f1
So moving…Michael obviously had the upmost respect for Ayrton.
I hope we get to see you again one day. La ringrazio.
Get well Schumi!!! We love you!

Mika allways was and is such a nice guy.
Still remeber how fair he was after the lost in suzuka the same year.
What a great driver, sportsman and human.
He was my Hero. I can't believe he is in this condition right now. I just hope he will make it through and stay with us.
I'm from germany. In 2000 i was sixteen years old. I've just watched the video three times in a row. The more I saw it, the harder I cried. Representative of the fact that unfortunately nothing in this world is everlasting. If I were Michael, I would have completely collapsed at the press conference. I would have lain on the floor. Even if it had a sad background, it is still very touching and beautiful to look at. It shows the most beautiful side of people.
A robot would be more sensitive than the press guy
Mika was like - ,, Look, a human crying''
The tap on the shoulder was a giveaway though. Big heart man also.
Truly unbelievable.
